Detailed Reviews
My husband and I take a week vacation each fall in a different area of the UP. We chose the Porcupine Mountain area for our most recent. We booked our stay at Mountain View Lodges based on the location and reviews of previous travelers. We WERE NOT disappointed. From booking through to check in, the process was smooth. I booked three months in advance, and had regular contact regarding our upcoming stay with the hosts. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and given a run down of local areas to check out during our stay. The cabins are very well maintained and clean. Unless you have an issue, the hosts are hands-off and you do get to make the cabin your own for the time rented. We were so pleased with the fully stocked kitchen, we only ate out once during the trip. My husband and I both were so happy, we added an extra night to our stay. The kitchen has bake ware, crock pots and pans for all type of cooking. Fans in the bedrooms are a plus. The weather didn't allow us to use the outdoor firepits, but we were able to use the indoor fireplace each night (our stay was late October). Wood is available for purchase at the office. Overall, this was the best week my husband and I spent. We enjoyed chatting with Rick and his wife, and appreciate the effort they each put into making sure our stay was memorable. We will be back!

We were only able to rent unit 101 for 2 nights and wished we could have booked a couple more nights. The cabin was well stocked and very clean. The location was right on Lake Superior and the sunsets. were breathtaking. The location is within a few miles to the Porcupine State Park and we we able to do a few hikes and explore the many waterfalls. The owners were extremely helpful telling us where to go. This is a remote area so restaurants are few Syl's in Ontonagon was very good and Pat's IGA supermarket was near by and had everything we needed.

We rented a cabin for my husband, me and our 16 year old son for 3 nights in July 2022. The owner was very helpful before we arrived and at check-in. The cabin was super clean and stocked with what looked like brand new kitchen supplies, including a Keurig, a crockpot and an appropriate amount of dishes, utensils, etc. There were a bunch of fans available to keep the rooms cool. The beds were comfortable with nice bedding. The windows opened and shut easily. The screen porch and foot tub were nice when coming off the beach. The resort is quiet and peaceful. Everybody seemed to respect that. The sandy/rocky beach is amazing! There are benches, but bring some chairs or a blanket if you can. There is a decent amount of sandy beach, but it's Lake Superior, so there are lots of rocks. Bring water shoes of some sort. There are fire pits along the beach for open use to all renters. We shared a fire with another family and watched a beautiful sunset. Best part? Yooperlites! Bring a UV flashlight and look for glowing rocks as the sun goes down. There are also kayaks and canoes available for anyone to use for free. Please take the advice of the owners/staff when they tell you what to bring as you are miles away from a grocery store or gas station. Located only a few miles from the entrance to Porcupine Mountains State Park, so it was easy to get to hiking trailheads. Definitely a hidden gem. Skip the campgrounds and mediocre motels in the area and stay here.

The cabin is very so-so and basic for the price you pay. $300/night. Entered into the cabin with a strong onion smell that never went away. The towels smelled as if no detergent was used in the laundering. There are flies and even a wasp inside that we had to kill. We used our own bedding and blankets, due to COVID. Before we left, we cleaned all dishes and laid them out on the counter because they are still a little wet. Due to the rain prediction the next day, we left one night early. They are very quick to charge me $57.50 for cleaning for nothing to be cleaned. Be careful, walk through the property because you leave, which you should not have to do. For the price they charge, they should not scam customers like this. It's simply indecent and leaves a bad taste.

Our policies are all clearly stated...from check in times to being sure to clean up all messes before checking out. After arriving late without notice, you never mentioned any problems or issues. In fact, you said the cabin was great! After your departure, the cabin was Checked and prepped for cleaning. We found things messy, dishes not cleaned and put away, bedding on the living room floor, and a general mess...not the way you found the cabin. All we expect is that the property is respected and your messes are cleaned prior to departure. When this does not occur, there is a charge to offset the additional time needed to spend cleaning and sanitizing. We provide dish soap, dish towels, paper towels, garbage bags, etc. to make it as easy as possible. 99% of our guests have no problem with our policies and therefore do not incur any cleaning charges.

What a fabulous place to stay. My husband and I came for our 11th anniversary and we are definitely coming back with our 4 children. After hiking for miles, to come back to a clean, quiet, well equipped kitchen to grill and eat a meal was just what we needed. Showers were hot, even the back cabins had a view of Lake Superior, and it felt like the comfort of home.
Rick and Jeni gave us great information on the surrounding area and we felt like we were able to do more than we anticipated in our short stay.
I encourage you to book here!!

We LOVED this place! The cabins were clean and had everything we needed (except washer/dryer), The private beach was lovely to meditate on in the morning and watch a beautiful sunset at night. It was the perfect place to return to after hiking all day. We will definitely be back! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

+1
We have been to Mountain View Lodges twice and loved the property both times. The housekeeping cabins are in line with all cabins we have stayed at in the UP, modestly stocked kitchen, decent beds, beautiful view. The cross breeze with the ceiling fans and windows open was just right. We were able to hear the waves each night while sleeping, which was really nice. Sunsets and beach time were amazing and even though the resort was full, we felt we had the perfect amount of privacy for our family. The location is great if you want to explore the Porkies and day trips around the Western UP. If I could say one negative thing, it would be the lack of clothes line or hooks to hang wet towels or swimsuits on. We made due with the shower rod and deck, but I think hooks would be helpful for the wet beach things.
Overall we had a great time, loved our stay and plan to return for our next Porkies trip

We desperately wanted to get away after a few months of being home due to Covid-19. We had never been to the UP and my husband had heard wonderful things about it. We did, however, want to stay away from as many people as possible and do as much social distancing as possible. By a stroke of luck we found Mountain View Lodges on a Monday night, booked it for the 3 nights before July 4th weekend. WE FEEL IN LOVE! Our lakefront 'home' had everything we needed. It was as if we were home. We loved our mornings and evenings spent on the deck, and on the beach on the shore of Lake Superior. Because it was before the holiday weekend, we were still able to hike to a few of the waterfalls and be socially distant. So many beautiful places to see within a short drive. The owners were so helpful . The homes were clean and comfortable. I can't wait to book a family 'reunion' vacation when Covid - 19 is over. Mountain View Lodges has everything we will need!! Also, during Covid - 19 we loved that the kitchen was well stocked with everything so we could cook at home and not worry about what restaurant was open or not. We highly recommend!

We arrived at the cabin after a long, tiresome drive and all of our fatigue disappeared as soon as we saw the location and accommodations. My son told me that I had to stop saying, "This is great," over and over again, that first night. We were right on the lake and were immediately immersed in the peace and beauty of the place. The cabin was clean, spacious and well-appointed. Each cabin (as far as I could tell) has it's own screen porch and deck. Our hosts were perfectly welcoming and gave us detailed information on local sites to visit and places to eat or buy groceries. The only regret I had was booking 3 nights instead of an entire week. We look forward to returning.

We were looking for a place where we could get away from the world and COVID safely. We spent six nights in our lovely cabin right on the shore of Lake Superior watching the lake, reading and doing a jigsaw puzzle. We didn't turn the TV on once! The weather was a little cold and windy, but that made the waves extra fun to watch.
It was a little cool to fully enjoy the deck and screen porch, but in better weather they would have been much used.
Our cabin was well-equipped with everything we needed to cook our meals and there is a great grocery store in Ontanogan.
We enjoyed take out fish (perch!) and chips from a place in Houghton and baked foods from a bakery in Ontanogan.
We went for several drives in the Porcupine Mountains, and the leaves were spectacular.
The hosts were always available when we needed them, but otherwise left us alone.
Everything was perfect.
