The reservation was easy to make over the phone as the owners were available, helpful, and friendly. And, my husband and I were so excited about our trip to the Porkies - and good weather - that we left a day early. I called the motel when we were about 2 hours away and the owners said they would have our room ready when we arrived - a day early. Soooo nice. We loved the Up-North decor of the room with the timber furniture, lamps, and wall decorations, country-style quilts on beds, etc. Clean, clean, clean. And the property has a nice large grassy median between the office and motel rooms/cabins with lawn chairs, tables, and a campfire pit. Sunshine Motel and Cabins is on a country highway not too far from town with a private beach on Lake Superior just a short walk down a little trail across the street from the motel. Again, soooo nice. The owners are wonderful and helpful. They gave us a little map of the area and explained all of the different places. ALL of the restaurants we frequented in Ontonagon had really good food and service. The picnic area and public beach there was really beautiful - and this recreation area has camping also. Getting to the Porcupine Mountains was really easy from Sunshine Motel and Cabins. Our whole trip to the Porcupine Mountains/Lake Superior and in and around Ontonagon was fantastic.…
We stayed here the night before starting a backpacking trip in the Porkies. This is one of those old school places that you see in the movies, with paneled walls and the 50's vibe. However, it has an updated feel. Yes, the decor is 50's but you have a flat screen tv, coffee maker and everything you need today. It's quaint, very clean, quiet and inexpensive. The folks that own it take pride in the property, keeping the rooms extra clean and the grounds nicely done. They are kind and welcoming. I would come back here in a heartbeat over the new fangled chain hotels.
Excellent 'budget' priced motel. Owners were super friendly. Room was very clean and cozy. The room had a microwave, coffee maker, and frig. It's a super cute place with picnic tables & fire pit. The only negative thing I can say is they don't have an ice maker.
Stayed here while visiting Porcupine Mountains. Room was nice and clean, very reasonable rates. The owners were very friendly, gave great recommendations on things to see and places to eat in the area. We took all their recommendations and they did not disappoint. Very grateful that they are dog friendly so our dog could enjoy vacationing with us. Overall very pleasant experience.
We stayed here for a few nights while visiting Porcupine Mountains. The room was very nice. The grounds were nice too. We ate outside at a picnic table (we cooked on a camp stove) and made a bonfire in the pit with the firewood they provided. We could take a pretty walk through the woods (lighted at night) and be at the shores of Lake Superior. The owners were very helpful! Would stay again!
