I was in the sunset cabin, number 104. It has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. It has a living area with a wood stove, a dining area and a small but functional kitchen area. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, cookware and utensils. It has a full size refrigerator, coffee pot, stove and oven and a microwave. Everything you need to cook a meal except for the food! The cabin was clean. Bed linens and bath towels are provided. One bedroom has a king size bed and one has a queen size bed. There is a pullout in the living room area. They provide watercraft if you want to take it out on Lake Superior, as long as you sign a waiver. They have beach access which was a short walk from the sunset cabin. You can purchase firewood and have a campfire in their provided portable fire pits. During my stay, there was an odor that was coming from the kitchen area. It was warm during my stay so I didn’t say anything about it, because I thought it may have had something to do with the warm weather or the septic system, until it was too strong. I had a couple of days left of my stay, but they didn’t have any cabins open. They did have their lodge available. They actually allowed me to finish my stay in their lodge! They were able to get the odor corrected and I could have gone back to the cabin but I didn’t want to pack up again and just stayed at the lodge. From my cabin, I could sometimes hear the road noise but it wasn’t enough to keep me awake at night. Kim and her sister Tammy and Tammy’s husband were the kindest people. They bent over backwards to ensure that my stay was good! I enjoy the Ontonagon area and if I ever plan another trip to that area, I’ll make sure to stay there again!

I stayed here for five nights while exploring much of Western and Northwestern Michigan upper peninsula. I stayed in cottage #1 which for one person was just the perfect size. I really liked the front porch as it was screened in and it had a nice table and chairs. The full-size kitchen was fully stocked with dishes and pots and pans. The bathroom was big enough for one person although it lacked counter space. The bedroom was very comfortable. It was very close to the beach where you could walk and pick up beautiful rocks and driftwood and I saw some magnificent sunsets every night. Also very convenient to Porcupine Mountains Wilderness Area & just a very scenic 2 Hour drive up to Copper Harbor. The owners of the cottages are just lovely people who are extremely helpful and very personable. This was my favorite place to stay in the two weeks that I spent in the UP.

THE place to stay in Ontonagon. Look no further, this is where you want to stay. Super super clean and charming and the owners are just the nicest people. I have stayed here many times over the years (with different owners) and what the Miller's have done with renovations is spot on. They preserved the 'northwoods cottage charm' of the place while adding some 'beach chic' and modern conveniences. The cottage I stayed in was well appointed with great appliances, very nice cookware and nice linens. And there is a fabulous stretch of beautiful Lake Superior beach to walk for miles on. The Miller's provide wonderful beach amentities such as beach chairs, beach towels, kayaks etc. I will be retruning.

Stayed here for three nights in September. Its location right on the lake is wonderful, although none of the cabins really have a lake view - but just a short walk to see amazing sunsets. Our cabin was quite spacious, a real plus considering some of the very small places we stayed in on our tour of the UP. And...there was a coin operated washer and dryer - yay! The one big negative, however, was the cabin really needed a deep cleaning. Windows hadn't been washed in a long time and cobwebs plentiful. And I was really surprised that the sponges in the kitchen area had been in use for a long time - a real problem in this time of Covid! Every other cabin we have stayed in with a kitchen area provides an unopened sponge. On the surface, though, I should mention the bathroom was clean, as well as the kitchen area.

But overall this was adequate lodging and was a good base for us to explore the Porcupine Mountain region.

My boyfriend prepaid for a two night stay months in advance. After the first night we had to pack up and head home due to a family emergency. We were out of there before 10am, which is their check-out time. We went straight to the office and explained to the owner/manager and asked if we could get a refund. She said they had a no refund policy. I pointed out that we had not even taken a shower or cooked, and we even took our own trash out with us. I also pointed out that they had no vacancies, and they could easily rent out the cabin that night if they wanted to. The manager told us she could refund our second night if they rented it to someone else. But she didn’t.
I must also add that the cabin we rented had no living area (which came as a surprise to us), but two office chairs in the kitchen, one of which was broken down. And it was supposed to have a queen size bed, but we are certain it was a full size bed. The mattress was old and soft. Lastly, every time the furnace turned on or off, it did with a loud thud and clunk.

The only thing likable about this place was the view.

... Please keep in mind while reading this, that I came with a group of people that all have families and are all respectable people...

However, no matter how great of a view nothing would bring me back. We felt out of place the moment we got there. We thought the owner was down to earth when we arrived because we offered her a drink and she surprisingly accepted. Unfortunately, that was not the case. We expressed our discomfort about parking our property (nearing around $300,000 of value) 250ft from the cottage we were staying. It was totally out of view and across the street beyond several other cottages. Kim the owner, kept laughing and asking us if we were from the city because of our reaction. To add, they commented about how young people like us (33-43 years of age) were the future of the establishment. All the other visitors seemed to be retired regulars who had close relations with the owners and kept an eye out on the others. We felt as if we were watched our entire stay. Our time spent at the resort amounted to early morning and evening hours as we were elsewhere most of the day.

On our last day of our trip a member from our group and Kim got into a heated argument because she demanded an immediate action and this member decided to do it in his time and not hers beause he was in the middle of roasting his marshmallow. This then resulted in her kicking our entire group of 8 out of 2 cottages before our last 12 hours of our stay was up and were told "this isn't the place for younger people." We had all been drinking as we were celebrating the 4th of July weekend and were all in no condition to drive. To add, we would have had to drive hundreds of miles searching for a place to rest for the size of our group due to the holiday. Luckily we were able to talk to Kim's husband Rob, who was able to calm the situation down and allowed us to stay until our checkout the next morning.

This resort is far from welcoming and I feel sorry for anyone "young" looking to relax and have a good time. Dont be fooled by all the fake reviews written by the same people on different sites. You will be labeled as "those people," if you make any noise out of the ordinary. This place will never survive on the retired regulars alone, especially if they keep turning away anyone different from themselves.

Gorgeous location, great beach. These clean little cottages are great, with colorful flowers and great extras. They even provided salt and pepper as well as paper towels!

The owners are very nice, and they go out of their way to provide everything you might need.

We’ll repeat visits when we head that way again!

When we first arrived owners were very friendly our cabin was great and it’s a great location but into our stay attitudes of owner (wife) changed. We were told we could take firewood on our four wheeler down to the beach but we were not allowed to drive on the beach we brought firewood down and we got yelled at for it even though we were not driving on the beach we were just taking firewood. We did this yet again and they wanted to kick us out; we were not rowdy or disrespectful to anyone but I noticed down on the beach people would stare as if the owners had eyes watching every move people made, this made me very uncomfortable to see people staring at me while I was down on the beach in my bathing suit. I have never been called rude in my entire 38 years of life and by the last day of our stay the owners wife said every person in our eight person group was rude from the very beginning but yet we offered her a drink the minute we met her as we had pulled in. I was given a key that didn’t work for my cabin I politely asked her to replace it for me and I thanked her for her time, she never gave me a replacement key and that was the only contact that I had with her or anyone else but members of my group in yet she tells my friend that I was rude! Her response toward me is very upsetting so that is why I am leaving this review, I don’t deserve to be treated like a bad person when I am not.

Another amazing week in a cottage on Lake Superior. The cottage was clean, comfortable beds, well stocked kitchen, a grill and picnic table! At the office, we were able to borrow beach chairs to sit around a campfire and watch the stars. A relaxing, laid back resort with gracious hosts that make sure you have to best visit ever! Thank you Rob and Kim❤️

Only ~13 miles from beautiful Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park, Peterson's Cottages are ideally located. We watched beautiful sunsets, while SUP'ing, rock hounding (found 3 Yooper Light rocks on the beach), and enjoying a bon fire, while watching sometimes inclement weather made by the mountains in the Porkies area. The proprietor Rob was very friendly and accommodating. Cabins were clean, comfortable beds and a nice size kitchen for a cabin of this type. Rob had charcoal, beach towels (if you forgot yours), and black lights available (to find Yooper Lights). He was very resourceful regarding the area and off the beaten path sights. We want to come back. Oh and the Porkies were beautiful of course although we like the fall best.

As much as we love 4 legged friends, we do not allow them in our cottages for allergy reasons. So I am sorry to say, no we do not allow pets in our cottages.
