This was my second time staying at Sunrise Landing. The owners do such a wonderful job maintaining the property and providing comfortable accommodations. My husband and I stayed in the Solo King--we felt so spoiled! The fireplace was great for the cool evenings and it was nice to have a kitchenette. My favorite part of staying at Sunrise Landing is that it is so peaceful. You can sit, sip your tea, and watch the gulls on the bay. You are able to embrace the UP North mentality. We will definitely stay here again!

Wonderful room and great service but we had to leave due to a predicted 9 to 12 inches of snow to fall in 24 hours which cut our 3 day stay to one day. For those carrying a lot of luggage, the parking is not next to your room, but there is a wagon you can use. Room was quiet, clean and comfortable.

My friend and I had a great stay! The mid-century modern vibe, clean room, comfortable beds, and beautiful setting on the lake made for a fantastic stay. We will definitely be returning soon. The owners were friendly and responsive to a few slightly off the wall requests!

Wonderful retreat in Northport MI. Very cozy and relaxing room, opening onto a lovely garden area with a view of Lake Michigan. The decor of the grounds is very cool with a magical feel. The property leads down onto a small private beach with seating areas and a fire pit. A great way to spend an evening. Breakfast was provided with a selection of baked goods, breakfast bars and fruits. Also some hot coffee and a selection of tea. The main area for improvement is in the bathroom. The shower was difficult to use, the regulator may not have been working correctly, it was either very cold or very hot. The shower curtain was a bit dirty, after we notified the owners, they replaced it immediately. The bathroom extractor may need cleaning, as the fan was quite weak. Overall we had a brilliant stay here, we will definitely remember our time. The owners clearly care a lot about the motel and their passion really shows.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying four nights in September at this delightful 12-unit family owned property, located right on the shore of Lake Michigan’s West Grand Traverse Bay in Leelanau County. It was our first visit to the area and oh my what a positive first visit it was. We were in awe from the moment of our arrival, albeit it was in the dark of night after a 2.5 hour drive from Ludington and just having experienced our first ever crossing on the SS Badger. The minute we made the turn onto the tree lined, lamp lit driveway, we knew we were some place EXTRAORDINARILY special. It was obvious to us the next day as we got our first real glimpse of the property that a lot of love, craftsmanship, hard work and attention to detail had gone into the development and subsequent growth of this small wonder. It showed in every element from the design of the overall structure and the individual rooms, to the massive trees that enveloped the property , and the large center grassy courtyard with the colorful Adirondack chairs and yard games. Our room was spacious with a mix of cozy cabin meets modern contemporary; very colorful, very comfortable with all the modern amenities including matching mini fridge and microwave. And, let’s not forget the beach. What a way to start each day with the sun coming up over the lake as viewed from our own private beach. (OK, so it wasn’t OUR private beach, but it sure felt like it – and it sure was pretty!)

This is our second time staying here and it was even better than before. Of course, that's because the pesky mosquitoes were blessedly silent and the biting flies were gone! Everything else was delightfully the same. For our longer stay, we opted for a kitchenette and were glad we did because we brought food in two nights and had the nicely equipped kitchen to help out. The room was spacious with two queen beds, a bathroom with the original sparkling green tiles that I love, a sitting area with a lamp, and a dining table in the kitchen area. Original cedar paneling lined the walls like wainscoting, and thoughtful decorating is obvious with the mid-century modern mix of furniture meets Northwoods. While we had only two coffee packages in the room, we didn't request anymore because the office has coffee in the morning. A selection of pastries or breakfast biscuits is also available, plus fresh apples. A highlight is the large lawn and beach area where you can relax and stare out at the lake in comfortable Adirondack chairs. We slept exceptionally well in the comfortable bed. You can open your windows for cool evening air and the sound of waves, or you can use the white noise machine (size of a small radio) and select waves instead. My husband appreciated the large, flat screen TV for baseball play-off action. We never met the owners because everything is contact free, but they text you with check-in information, and if you want them, you can text or call them. They are on the property, so I can imagine they respond quickly. No housekeeping is offered because of Covid on the loose, but again, you can reach out if you need anything. We did not because we were well supplied. Clearly, we will return.

We were in room 3 1/2, I don’t know why, but I love that! It’s was small and perfect. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The view was amazing! The motel is just a few miles from everything but it feels like you’re far from town, tucked away in the woods. Did I mention private beach?? I highly recommend Sunset Landing

We spent two days in room 6 - a kitchenette. It was just right for the two of us. Old-fashioned but cute and clean. Modern where we needed it - Satellite TV, coffee maker (a little Mr. Coffee) good hair dryer, microwave and fridge. The aqua-tiled bath was roomy and adequate. Nice soap. Little shower but modern shower head. Coffee and packaged donuts in the office each morning around 7. Donuts and muffins could have been better, but the host even warned us that they weren't the best. Blame it on covid-19 probably. The great green lawn and stone walk to the little beach was so pleasant.Soaked up some sum, skipped stones and had fun wading and watching boats, ducks, an eagle, cormorants and gulls. We came to ride our bikes on the TART trail which begins a few miles south in Suttons Bay. Toured the peninsula and our favorite dinner was at the Cove in Leland. Delicious fish! This place was restful and lovely. Thank you hosts.

We have found our motel to return to in Northport with our stay at Sunrise Landing. The little motel is down a wooded drive, so even though the main road is near, you don't hear it. What you do hear is bird song and waves lapping at the motel's small beach. The motel decor is a nod to mid-century modern and the northwoods, which is a cool combination. Usually, the motels and cabins we stay in Up North have mid-century modern furniture only because the furniture hasn't been updated since purchase in the 1960s. Here, it was pleasant to have the same style of furniture but the difference is the furniture here is clean, comfortable and new. Our bed, which was decorated with a colorful flower comforter, was unbelievably comfortable. The wooden blinds on the large window that overlooks the lawn, blocked out light so every night was a good night's sleep. I absolutely loved the funky green refrigerator and microwave, both done in mid-century modern style. A dresser provided plenty of space for our clothes, as well as the "closet" area that had ample hangers, something not always guaranteed. Both sides of the bed had bright reading lamps and tables. The bathroom is short on space for putting out bathroom supplies, but you can hang toiletry bags on hooks or the towel rack. The towels were fluffy and full, not skimpy at all. Our room had a shower stall only. It provided good water pressure. I also appreciated the laminate wood floors that represented gray barn wood. Easy to clean. Because of the pandemic, we did not have our room tended to daily, which was fine with us. Clearly, the room was cleaned top to bottom before we arrived. Surfaces glistened and we felt confident staying here. The office is open in the morning with wrapped pastries and coffee. We never saw our hosts during our stay, but we never felt that they weren't there if we needed anything. They had texted us before we arrived so we knew what room we were in and knew how to get in touch if we had any concerns. While we didn't use the beach, we did wander down to look at it. Chairs were set up on the beach and they looked very inviting. It would be easy to perch in a chair and get lost in the view of the lake and the distant shore. The motel is in an excellent location for exploring the Leelanau and we will definitely return.

No stargazing & no sunrise but only because mother nature had other plans. This place is cute, cozy & affordable. The view is amazing and I was awestruck the minute we arrived. We got the corner king room and it had everything we needed for our weekend. The hostess greeted us upon our arrival and let us enjoy our quiet time for the wkend. We will definitely be returning , already trying to plan a ladies wine weekend for the fall. 2 thumbs up all the way around. 👍👍
