I rarely give a motel a "poor" rating on the basis of a single flaw, but there is no getting around it here. The water quality is just about the worst I've encountered in a motel here in the U.S. Apparently owing to very high iron content, the water looks bad, smells bad and tastes bad. It's OK for shaving and wetting your toothbrush, that sort of thing. Bring your own drinking water. You might want to use the shower, that's up to you, but I've done it once and I wouldn't do it again (not least because the water temperature at one point went from hot to ice cold with no warning). The towels are threadbare. There is also a lot of traffic noise here because there is a detour on US-2 that slows traffic to a crawl. The engine braking of the big semis is especially aggravating, since…
I stayed o overnight with my wife on a weekend trip to the UP. I called ahead and was quoted $50 for the night plus the $20 pet fee. When we got there to check in I was informed that the price of the room was 70+20 for the pet fee. The gal said she didn't know who I talked to that would've quoted me that price. Since it was late I just proceeded with the check in. The beds were extremely hard and very uncomfortable. As stated in the other reviews the water was yellow and had a strong odor. The room did not come with either a fridge or microwave. Although the view was amazing it was not worth the $96 to wake up with a sore back. You can achieve the same view from the excellent restaurant next-door. I won't be coming back to this establishment as the gal upfront didn't seem to…
We stayed here for one night while traveling to the U.P and Mackinac Island. It was about a 30 min, gorgeous drive from Mackinaw City. The room was okay, nothing special. Bathroom was filthy however. Shower curtain was disgusting, tub was dirty, a dirty wash cloth was wrapped around the shower head. The water in the room was yellow and smelt awful. It wasn't normal well water like other comments mentioned. I didn't even give the yellow water to my dogs. The room does not have A/C so if you stay in the warmer months you will be sweating. We opened the windows and put the fan in the window to try and cool the room off but it did nothing. I was hoping the room at least had a microwave but it doesn't have that. The beds were really, really stiff, thin and old feeling. Not…
Would stay here again in a heart beat! When ever we vacation we like to support the mom and pop places. This place was fantastic! Simple, clean, reasonable, Awesome view of lake Michigan. If you are looking for the Hilton, this isn't it. If you are looking for simple, clean, comfortable this is your place!
The view is great - love seeing Lake Michigan from the back window. The location is convenient for traveling - right on US 2. Cleanliness - could be better but I've seen worse. Beds very uncomfortable. Water smells horrible - fixing this would go a long way because well, it really stinks and also because water this hard is rough on the plumbing fixtures. Sink and tub don't drain very well. Maybe 3 stars was generous. Oh, and don't forget (there is a sign by the door to remind you) - tips are appreciated!
My dog Bear and I stayed here in 2012 and enjoyed this homey little place a lot. Bear is waiting for me at Rainbow Bridge and my current traveling companion Sam-I-Am and I stayed in late August 2016. It's even better now! Our room was freshly remodeled and clean and cozy. It' ain't the Hilton but the view, the price, the deck, the peace and quiet and the restaurant next door make it THE place to stay.
We stayed here only one night but found this place to be very comfortable and clean. the view was worth any inconveniences. the lack of air conditioning and the weird smelling water were the only negatives. It was very clean, the view was spectacular and the restaurant right next door more than made up for it. We will definitely stay here again.
This motel is located on US-2 W in Cut River, the motel has 9 or 10 unites, the office is in the center of the small building, as we entered there was no one inside, there was a sign on the wall which informed the customer to take a key and the slip of paper with the room number under it and inspect the room we would like to see. If we like it the room to fill out the form and slip it under the door at the back of the office. We inspected two rooms, one had a fridge and was $5.00 more, the rooms where modest but very clean, the king size bed had a good matrass and comfortable pillows, clean linen towels and soap, there was a big screen TV with a view channels We decided on the one with the fridge. In the small office there was a ice machine and a coffee maker. (Fresh coffee was…
The Best- the restaurant next door The Good- a beautiful view right out the window good beds (full size) sink, fridge and microwave in the room price- pets for $10 extra The Bad Water had a bad odor-maybe from the water heater? No-WIFI 5 TV channels- 2 HBO, history channel , CBS (maybe) and Fox Overall, a nice stay in the beautiful UP of Michigan.
My husband, dog and I spent the night at the Skyline Motel on our way to visit our daughter at Michigan Tech University. The motel is not far over the Mackinaw Bridge. The skyline was the cleanest motel in which I have ever stayed. It is a very simple room, but very comfortable. It had 2 beds, a bathroom, and a TV. The motel is on Lake Michigan with a beautiful view. The price was reasonable.
