We spent 4 great nights at Hester's place, we had the top flat with the roof terrace. Hester did welcome us really nicely, I felt at home during our stay. There is a nice restaurant in the village otherwise plenty of them around the place. Le pont du Gard is really close too and few nice beaches for resting ans swimming.

Previously stayed for 3 weeks in the 'Cave' 4 years ago and this year took 2 other couples to have a french experience. We had the 2 bedroom apartment and Le Terrace for 7 days. Just such a lovely village, quiet but close to Uzes, wineries, CarreFour, Gard etc. The apartments are beautifully decorated and full of character. Great value for money and a very generous welcome basket awaited us on arrival.

We stayed here a few years ago with 3 teenage kids. The apartments are just gorgeous. An old french farmhouse that has been tastefully renovated into 3 beautiful apartments. All the apartments look out on the cute wee courtyard. Hester is the best host and we met a wonderful couple from Auckland who we still keep in contact with. It was so lovely to arrive and have bread, fruit, cheese and wine set out for us - a fantastic touch. St Maximum is a beautiful quiet village not far from Uzes. The market in Uzes is a must see and Avignon and surrounding villages are not far in a car. The smells coming from the restaurant, L'Estanquet make your tastebuds tingle. Unfortunately we couldn't get a booking as it was so busy, so you need to book in advance. Will someday be back. :)

There are three apartments in this lovely old house - larger ones on the top and bottom floors, and the middle one, perfect for two. It's been very well restored and retains loads of character as well as all necessary amenities. The owner is very friendly and helpful - and the fruit, bread, wine and cheese awaiting our arrival was a very nice touch. The village itself is very pretty and well placed for exploring. The local restaurant is excellent (L'Estanquet - 0466229324) - you'll need to book! Thanks Hester - a great week.

We stayed in Le Terrace (the 1st floor apartment) for 7 nights. St Maximin is a lovely quiet village and is in a fantastic location for visiting the beautiful places in Provence and Gard - it really couldn't be better in that respect. as other reviewers have noted, there is a wnderful pizza restuarant within walking distance. Unfortunately we didn't get round to booking at l'Estanquet in the village, but the menu looked great. The welcome basket of fruit, and the cheese and wine on arrival were lovely hospitable touches. The apartments are in a very old building which has been restored and converted. The courtyard is beautiful, with flowers tumbling over balconies, and twinkling fairy lights after the sun has gone down. The rooms are spacious and decorated in cool, tasteful and muted colours. It would probably be good to bring some personal fans to cool down in the fierce summer sun, as there is no air conditioning. We did find it disappointing that the people in the top floor apartment (who I think were American students part of a larger party staying close by) were noisy as this spoiled the otherwise peaceful and private environment we were expecting (may be worth checking whether this is a regular/long term arrangement in the summer?). Also there were a few issues with lights, light fittings/electricity.
