The ideal accommodation in Blaye, well located, the apartments are spacious, tastefully furnished and well-equiped. What can I say about the staff? Lovely people, all of them. Clasissa, Leslie and Lara, Lara!!!!! Nice, helpful, thoughtful, elegant and beautiful!
Finding yourself in such a great location surrounded by such great people ...Priceless. Cycling into the village provides a warm feeling of what Cycling through Bordeaux and its regions should be. Quaint and beautiful describe the area and people. Location is ideal for adventuring out. Loved being so close to the ferry as we adventured out to explore Paulliac, Ste Estephe, Medoc and Margaux home to some of the most admirable wineries worldwide. Lara was a Diamond Host. The Best one could ask for. Helpful, Warm and Friendly. Highly Recommend Lara and her services
We recently travelled to Bordeaux and as usual we went hunting for all the non commercialised hidden gems .Blaye is a fantastic example of a real wine town that is full of character and characters! We stayed in one of the apartments on the Bordeaux Village Blaye website and were totally blown away by the apartment and the town. Lara who runs the property was amazing and gave us tips on where to go ,what to eat and what to do in all the surrounding areas. We did a wine tasting course with Les who has a great wine bar/ shop in the same road as the apartment. We spent quite a few evenings on the terrace of the wine bar meeting and chatting with the locals. Blaye has some good restaurants and a lovely local market there twice a week. Our Apartment had all the cooking utensils and a full kitchen so we took advantage of the fresh market produce and actually cooked some tasty local dishes. I cannot wait to return next year as so many people who discover Blaye are drawn back ..year after year and for good reason!…
WHAT A GEM! Location: We booked this apartment to be close to the Marathon Medoc and the Chateau we were visiting in Medoc. NOTE: The sleepy town of Blaye is ACROSS the river from the Medoc BUT nestled right at the foot of the ferry so location was no real issue for us and certainly closer to the Ch. along the D2 than the city of Bordeaux (which we did enjoy for 3 days prior to Blaye). Blaye is a quiet area for sure but the apartments sit over a wonderful pizzeria, a cafe, art gallery and wine bar. Lara and the owners could not have been more welcoming. The are originally from South Africa (English speaking) and as we are non-French speaking, it was wonderful to have their advise and assistance. THE APARTMENT: We were offered a complimentary upgrade to a two bedroom on the top floor (FYI - no elevators). By Paris standards it was a huge apartment with high ceilings and large light filled rooms. The style is the perfect combination of chic, historic and modern country. They were filled with original artwork and stylish furnishings. Everything was spotless. It was truly a home away from home as it included everything you'd expect in a vacation home with the exception of an English station on the TV but but that was fine with us. The rooms had high ceilings and a sunny tone on tone color palette. They had new well insulated windows, we did not hear a thing. The beds and lines were dreamy. My room overlooked a lovely botanical courtyard where you could enjoy coffee with the other guests. The kitchen/living/ 2 nd bedroom overlooked the quiet side street. The 2 baths were brand new and outfitted with spotless modern fixtures; the kitchen was VERY well equipped for those wishing to cook in. There was a washer/dryer as well. We loved, give our hectic trip, to stay in one night and just enjoy pizza and wine from the excellent selection in the shop. Lara helped us with...well, everything. We forgot the car keys to one of our cars left in the Medoc one night and she found them, ran them to the ferry, passed them off to a trusted friend who delivered them to us safe and sound just in time to catch the last ferry of the night. WHEW! A God send! We signed up for the wine tasting and village tour with the owner. It was nice evening. We learned about the his vision to "collect" the historic buildings one by one and bring the town back to life. We enjoyed touring the Inn across the street which looks over the park, his wife's artist studio, the caves and under ground cellar where we began our wine tasting (paired with ample selection of light bites) then on to Lara's art gallery (wonderful selection of local modern art) and finished the evening with new friends in the very cool wine studio. You'll love the exposed brick and stone buildings each flawlessly restored with modern "agro-chic" flair. Overall I'd call it "flawless and charming" but not sumptuous. The best: the reasonable rate, quality of the accommodations and an abundance of space where you can just relax. The service was incredible. It was worth the effort to search out Village Blaye. Can you trust our opinion? Our group was three professional business women from the USA. The writer of this review is winery owner in Napa California and a restaurateur in Historic Williamsburg VA. We are all well traveled and used to traveling well. I absolutely recommend this charming property when visiting Bordeaux wine country.…
Bordeaux Village Blaye has beautiful apartments, set around the only winery in the authentic town of Blaye. In one road,we found the winery, fourteen underground wine cellars, a delightful collection of classic cars and French mopeds dating from1950, a stunning art studio, in a renovated stables, belonging to artist Clarissa Schaefer, a wine artifacts museum, art galleries, a wine bar like nothing we have ever seen, dating back to 1700, incredible wine store ( wines from €5 to €20,000 per bottle!)owned by wine judge and wine teacher Les Kellen and a retro garage eatery. Sheer serendipity, as we had never heard of this delightful town before. Stunning apartments at reasonable rates, a Citadel, two markets a week, and 600 wineries in the surrounding winelands. On the bank of the Gironde Estuary. Not touristy or your usual tourist destination, but cannot recommend enough.…
Came with my friend for a girls trip.... what a find! Blaye is gem, beautiful town with its own historic Citadel. We stayed in the apartment named ‘ Margaux’ at the Villa St-Simon. Felt at home with its modern amenities and beautiful decor. I liked that I could pop downstairs to enjoy breakfast or a glass of wine in the evening with the local wine producers at La Petite Cave. Les and Clarissa made us feel so at home..,. Merci!!! The apartment also comes with a concierge service, run by Lara, who booked us Château visits and fabulous wine tours, that made our stay memorable ! Would definitely recommend !! I can’t wait to come back with the rest of my family!

Visiting Blaye for the first time and stayed at Villa St. Simon for a week with friends upon their recommendation. Wow. Instantly Les, Clarissa and Lara make you feel welcome and part of their family - nothing is ever too much trouble. Their expert knowledge of Blaye and the entire Bordeaux wine region is infectious. Whether you choose to experience a guided wine tour, a Les cellar evening, a guided tour of the Gallery and Winery or simply explore the region at your leisure, you will not be disappointed. Plus do make sure start the day with Clarissa special petit dejeuner in Le Petit Cave at the end of the street with the locals, whilst you relax and plan the day ahead.
What a place ! Our son discovered this accommodation about five years ago, & we have visited it every year since. We love it. Full of character and atmosphere, right on the front of Blaye overlooking the river and citadel. The rooms are varied; some being self catering apartments, others having the use of a kitchen. All are beautifully laid out. And the wonderful Lara Sanan will look after everything for you. She is fantastic. Go there !
My wife and I had one of our best Bordeaux wine tours so far yesterday, hosted by South African transplants Lara Sanan and the famous "Les the Legend". Les was great, very approachable and loads of fun! Getting a peek behind the scenes of wine region life was very special. Visiting the art galleries, wine bar, and local wine cellars was a treat. This is a must do if you make it out to Blaye.
