The Hotel Arnold, despite enlargement, still has a family feel to it. The staff are friendly and helpful, the location is superb - on a hillside looking out over vineyards and villages - and the village is typically Alsatian. We have stayed there before, and really enjoyed going back. The only slight concern I would have is that the enlargement to the hotel has put pressure on their breakfast room, which is now too small to cope with a full hotel. But that is a small price to pay for what is such a great hotel!

Hotel Arnold provides a friendly environment. Our room had an enormous terrace overlooking the vineyards. The bathroom was well appointed, clean and spacious and you have everything you need. The hotel had a great restaurant and terrace across the road (its a tiny old town so across the road is not a problem). In fact it means you look down the Main Street of Itterswiller, which is a picture postcard Alsace town. The staff are really friendly.

Driving in to the Alsace region of France you immediately get seduced by the countryside and quaint architecture of the villages. Arriving at the entrance of the Arnold Hotel in Itterswiller, you are already transporting back in time. A warm welcome awaits at reception where the staff are equally comfortable in English, French and German. In fact there is an attractive blending of French and German culture across the board in this wonderful little village. The rooms are very well appointed, many with a private balcony and a view of rolling vineyards. The bathrooms have been upgraded and are perfectly fit for purpose if not as fancy as modern hotels. This adds to the quaint experience. The Hotel owns and runs La Terrasse Restuarant nearby where the fare includes delicious local special dishes with strong French and German influence. Needless to say the local Pinot Noir and Riesling varieties are outstanding. High Season is December, and Hotel reservations need to be done very well in advance. Summer is easier, but still wonderful, and there is no doubt about future visits!

Couldn’t believe that Hotel Arnold was only a 3 star hotel as we found it outstanding in pretty much every aspect. Our rooms (in the new building) were roomy, modern and full of charm with excellent facilities and also a decent WiFi connection which I didn’t expect. The views across the valley were spectacular and all balconies were comfortable and sufficiently private to sit and enjoy the sights of the vineyards and neighbouring villages. Slightly disappointed that they charge €16 per guest (for duration of stay) for use of the spa which seems slightly miserly and should probably just be packaged into the overall pricing. Thought the restaurant (across the road) was a bit over-priced and nothing special but perfectly adequate and breakfast (downstairs) was typical of the region and set us up well each day. Would definitely stay there again and wholeheartedly recommend to anyone planning a trip to Alsace and looking to stay centrally with good road links to all the main local attractions. Also, the finest winemaker we found (after extensive tasting throughout the region) is based just a couple of hundred yards down the road so a visit to JL Schwartz is essential, especially if you want to try and buy some of the finest wines of Alsace.

Be adviced that not all rooms are equipped with AC. If you get a room the top floor, temperatures will rise to make it unbearable to sleep or even to stay in the room. Some personnel is very friendly, however, when we asked the young lady if anything could be done (e.g room on lower floor), we were very rudely told of. Another room was avaible if we paid more... We also told the bathroom had a smell, she simply ignored it. Note that the bathrooms are old and contain mold/have a shower curtain (see photos)
