We stayed in one of the brand new contemporary junior suites over the spa. The rooms are exceptional: beautiful Scandinavian design, stunning views of the garden and river Ill, lovely modern bathroom with shower and bathtub (and Hermes toiletries!) The food at L'Auberge (although eye-watering let expensive) is phenomenal and deserving of at least one Michelin star. The owner can... More

What to say? This is simply my preferred hotel in the world! Calm, serene, beautiful! And with a warm welcome from a highly committed team! Of course the wonderful 3 Michelin star restaurant which is part of the same complex adds to the attraction. But make no mistake: the hotel is an experience in itself. Addictive....!

First of all: this hotel isn't cheap. It doesn't have any reason to be, after all, it's where one preferably stays after a dinner at the Auberge de l'Ill. That, however, also raises the bar significantly. The Hôtel des Berges rises to the occasion with considerable flair, style and great hospitality. The all-over friendliness and genuine charm of the staff... More

This hotel is a fabulous place. The rooms are huge and very comfortable. The bed is really comfortable. Our room had a nice balcony overlooking the river. Breakfast was a lovely experience in the garden along the river. and the gardens and the river all make for a great experience. Add to that an amazing outdoor pool and a great... More

This hotel is set apart in the global, high end, hospitality business. Its foremost feature? Family-owned, family-operated, family-run. This makes a whole difference to the experience. All the way through our 2-night stay, we felt everyone genuinely cared if we were enjoying a superior experience. It has been in business for 25 years or so. We booked quite late for... More

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, our room was lovely with a beautiful view looking over the river l'Ill, It was at a time when there were floods in France so the river was running very fast flooding the terrace in the beautiful gardens. It didn't matter the gardens are just wonderful, breakfast was served in the garden, it... More

Hospitality at its best. Worth the money spent. We treated ourselves to this unique experience combining it with a gourmet dinner at Marc Haeberlins Auberge de l'Ill. We loved the ambiance, the tasteful interiors, the little hideaways on the premises, the way food and drinks were presented. You do feel welcome from the very first moment. Everybody in this family... More

It used to be that you had to stay somewhere a distance from the marvellous Auberge de L'ill restaurant in Illerhaeusern, however now you can stay at the fabulous and idiosyncratic hotel des Berges, which is just a few steps away. The rooms, both the bedrooms and the sitting rooms are cleverly designed so that you have every comfort in... More

The Hotel des Berges' main attraction is the Micheline Three Star Restaurant which, as can be expected, serves an extraordinary culinary menu. Quite an experience! The Hotel itself is quaint and is situated in a small town right in front of a river. There are more impressive bucolic surroundings to visit but the staff is pleasant and helpful. Again the... We stayed for one night at l Hotel des Berges as we wanted to have dinner at their 3* Michelin restaurant l Auberge de l'Ill. We had a very nice quiet and large room along the river with a terrace. The breakfasts was exceptionally fresh offered with perfect service.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hotel des Berges is situated in the heart of the small village of Illhausern, in Alsace, between Colmar and Strasbourg, in the garden of the Auberge de l'Ill. Marco Baumann and Danielle, his wife, have created the spirit of an Alsatian farm with its tobacco shed, particular to this area of the Ried. Eight bedrooms, four suites and the Fisherman's Cottage will immerse you in a country ambience of Havana scents. Staying at the edge of the Ill river to find again authenticity mixed with the real pleasure of a family's tradition...this you find at the 5 star hotel, where each bedroom has its own decor, its own ambience. And once looking outside...you feel like at home. ... more   less
