This is a basic motel, not a luxury resort. It is located right on the bay in Munising, and every room looks out on the water. The room was clean and quiet. The location is off the main highway but probably less than 5 minutes from downtown and the highway into Pictured Rocks. The staff was helpful and friendly when we had an issue with the television. Bring your own shampoo and conditioner, soap. Breakfast is simple but sufficient. We visited the week before everything closed down for the season.

This place is expensive for an older hotel. You are mainly paying for the location right on the shore of Lake Superior. All of the rooms face the lake. Despite the name, there is no beach. The shoreline is rocky and not suitable for swimming. The best thing about this place is the huge grassy backyard. We spent most of our time out there. There are plenty of lawn chairs and picnic tables. A great place to enjoy the sunset. They also had charcoal grills, but they were full of ashes and need to be dumped. So we didn't use them. Charcoal and lighter fluid are provided. The rooms are a little dated but clean and comfortable. There is no elevator, so we opted for a ground floor room. We did have some trouble with the TV during our stay. One thing that I thought was pretty sketchy was the TV, refrigerator, and microwave were all plugged into one outlet with a 3 way adapter. Not sure that the 1950's era wiring can handle that much load. Breakfast was nothing special, just cereal, fruit, and packaged pastries. The staff was very friendly and helpful. One nice feature was the free and plentiful 10 lb. bags of ice outside the lobby. You can really fill up your cooler! We paid $300/night for the room only because it is right on Lake Superior. This would probably be a $100/night room if the motel was located elsewhere.

This place was clean and quiet BUT the best was GEORGE. George is a desk clerk that made our trip:) George took the time to pull out a map and show us areas that we should see and explore. That made our trip! Thank you George! You are an asset to that organization.

Truly friendly staff, peaceful surroundings, a lovely view - but I had a problem overall. I wanted to love this place because there is SO much to love here, but our room on the first floor had an overpowering mildew smell coming from the bathroom. I didn't think it was worth mentioning at first, but the sour smell became really unpleasant and distracting by the time we'd spent an entire night in the room. I'm sure this is something that can be fixed and when it is I would recommend this property.

Probably the smallest and most basic room I have ever stayed in. Dust and dog hair on hard surfaces. No couch or upholstered chairs. Vanity, shower head and toilet were all uncomfortably short for an adult at 5 ft 9 in. I booked this room for the view which includes an ugly factory with smokestacks pumping smoke into the air. Cold continental breakfast didn't even have fresh fruit. Staff was very friendly, which was the only redeeming factor.

This place is just the cutest! Right on the water! Less than a mile from Munising. Close to all the best hiking spots. We were greeted by George at the front desk. He went to work telling us all about the best places to visit In Munising (such a sweet man!). The room is exactly what you would expect in a roadside motel. Very clean, comfortable bed, mini fridge, microwave, quiet. The complimentary breakfast was small, nothing fancy, but filled our bellies for our long hikes. If you are looking for the Ritz-Carlton, this is not it. It’s a northern Michigan motel and it was perfect. Bring your own pillows:)

We stayed for two nights while hiking Pictured Lakes. Fantastic location and setting. The rooms need freshened up with some fixes and paint for sure, but I would still go back. The room was clean but appeared dirty. Workers were extremely nice and did a great job with breakfast. Lake Superior right out the window is amazing when being from Nebraska. I recommend going here.

We stayed here for 3 nights and made sure to be back for the sunset each night, spectacular views! It is located on the east end of town, not to far away from the public docks and close to the waterfalls and hiking in Pictured Rocks

This older property seemed expensive, nearly $300 per night including tax, but was good for our needs exploring Pictured Rocks Park & nearby Grand Island. There is lake view from all rooms with a door opening to common area porch, but if you have your blinds open for that view, guests walk by and can look into the room, undermining any sense of privacy. I'm more used to individual small balconies with lake view rooms so one can sit outside with some sense of privacy. There are two chairs outside each room (next to the heating/cooling unit) on the 2nd floor common area porch, and around cocktail hour most guests were sitting out there, with children and dogs, many smoking (not the dogs) drinking, and snacking. Depending on your mood or nature, this can be friendly or intrusive. It was ok for us, but did not appreciate the smoke as we snacked and sipped wine. We were surprised that there was no room cleanup or change of towels during stay, since we weren't told that on check-in. Staff didn't seem to enjoy their job or being truly friendly towards guests... but that may have just been due to a busy weekend. Even more surprising was the lack of cleanup on the common porch after two weekend days of people snacking, leaving empty cans outside with cigarette butts, etc. The continental breaky was the most limited and worst I've experienced in 30 years. Was glad to have brought my own cereal and yogurt. Tried to find a best by date on the plastic wrapped, rather hard pastries, and decided to give them a miss. Next summer or fall visit I hope to stay in one of two better hotels which were fully booked, but would consider this motel if less expensive next year. I know what to expect now, so won't feel a bit disappointed. A final note, while we enjoyed Munising and the surrounding areas, it seemed a bit expensive (compared to Madison WI) for food and drink everywhere we tried. Imagine a 12 oz latte for $6, 16 oz for $7.50. Best meal was at Tracey's, and well worth the price.

It's an old style motel about 3 minutes drive from the center of Munising. The room was nice size and comfortable. Each room has a back door facing the lake or a balcony with a view to the lake. The back yard is big and well maintained with grils and a few sitting corners. It is great for kids running around. There is no access to the water (Lake Superior is not a swimming pool. It can be dangerous, so I see it as a plus). Breakfast is very basic.
