‘Amaranthe Bay’ sits poised at the edge of the slow meandering Pillaikulam Aru, a sentinel of luxury in a stunning landscape of calming sunrises and psychedelic sunsets, caressed by the breezes that waft across the still waters of the river, serenaded by birdcall and the swishing of oars, bathed in a glow that only paradise can offer you. This is ‘Amaranthe Bay.’

Amaranthé Bay Resort is often described as a pristine paradise, with guests consistently commending the cleanliness of its rooms and facilities, including a spotless swimming pool. The spacious rooms, complete with luxurious amenities such as jacuzzis, contribute to the serene ambience that many visitors appreciate, though there are occasional mentions of air conditioning issues. Nestled close to the beach, the resort offers stunning lagoon views, enhancing its prime location.
The staff's exceptional service draws frequent praise, adding to the overall relaxing experience. While the amenities, including the well-maintained pool, are highly regarded, guests have mixed opinions on the resort's value, citing high prices and the lack of breakfast in the rate.

We recently stayed here and spent such a great 3 days. From the beaming welcome we received from Denver the Guest Relations Manager to the heart-felt goodbyes from several of the staff we were made to feel very special. The atmosphere is relaxed but customer service does not suffer and nothing seemed too much trouble for staff members.
Our room overlooking the lagoon was very spacious and we even had our own Jacuzzi. Wifi reception was great and laundry service very efficient.
The waiting & bar staff were all very friendly and we enjoyed the food very much. The head chef Nuwan Don really cares about his creations and was regularly available to check satisfaction.
We found Amaranthe Bay a great location to explore Trinco from and particularly enjoyed the beaches and fishing port.
Whilst we were staying there was a Valentine Day special and the hotel put in a lot of effort to create a good atmosphere.

When we arrived we asked to see our standard room. It was OK, but nothing special. As we stayed for 6 nights, we could have an upgrade for a junior suite for 25 $ extra. It certainly was worth the extra money, because this suite was huge! A large sitting aerea, large bed aerea, private jacuzzi, balcony, large and well equiped bathroom. We never had such a beautiful room and we enjoyed it a lot. The beakfast was outstanding with lots of choice. Normally we dont like to eat diner in a big hotel and prefer to go local, which we did. However on our second last day we decided to try the hotel restaurant. I wish we had discovered it before, because the food was very good, elegant, tasty with fresh vegetables. It was definitely a class higher than the local stuff and not expensive.
We also liked the staff who was very attentive and friendly.
As it was low season we sometimes had the pool just for the two of us.
We consider to ome back inlow season and stay here for a week oer two to unwind.
Its a great hotel, highly recommended!

Well, this hotel seems like it really would have been a gem in its heyday! The private jacuzzi in the room with the view of the lagoon was the definite highlight of the accommodation. And the manager and staff were extremely warm and friendly, going out of their way to chat with us and make sure we felt comfortable each time they saw us. For being such a big place, we certainly felt like the service was personalized! :)
Compared to newer resorts in Sri Lanka, though, Amaranthe Bay felt decidedly... older and generic? Sort of like the vibe you'd get at a Holiday Inn, really. The food was decent, but nothing memorable. The room was decent, but nothing memorable. The grounds were decent, but nothing memorable. It would be a fine choice if you had lots of plans for the day and didn't intend on making the resort the highlight of your trip, but I've gotten so used to resorts being the star of the show here in Sri Lanka, that this experience was honestly a bit of a let down.
Still, I would recommend Amaranthe Bay if you are already planning a trip to Trinco, as the next best option - the Cinnamon Blu - paled in comparison to Amaranthe (we went there for lunch to visit friends, and were SO happy with our decision to stay at Amaranthe!). The staff alone make it a worthwhile stop! However, I would not recommend driving the 7 hours from Colombo JUST for this resort as we did, as you will certainly realize you could have had a very similar experience at most any other major hotel, and saved yourself the 14 hour commute!

Dear Chelsea & Gregory, Thank you very much for recommending Amaranthé bay for visitors to Trincomalee. As you correctly mentioned the highlight of anybody’s stay in the large spacious rooms, with the two-seater Jacuzzi, overlooking the waterfront. We have taken in to note your comments on the food. We are in the process of improving our food standards during this post covid recovery period. We at Amaranthé Bay always ensure that we take care of all our guests to have a pleasant stay with us.

I stayed in this hotel for a night with my wife during a few days trip around the country. This is by far the worst hotel I stayed during that period. The room which we got did not have any privacy because it was between the reception and entrance path where we heard everyone's voices during the night who is working outside. Do no bother booking the standard room on this hotel if you think about any privacy. Room was not used for sometime and not cleaned thoroughly with smells of dust. They did not mention anything about this when booking this room. Hotel is rather small and not upto the standard of a four star hotel. Food is very ordinary type of restaurant food. I am amazed to see a four star belt given to this hotel after experiencing this. You can get a very nice experience in Trincomalee in other places available for the price you pay here. Only good thing was the lagoon view and sitting next to it sipping a drink. Don't be fooled by the nice photos. The service, quality of the food and the quality/cleanliness of the room is not at all upto a four star hotel. Person who welcomed us came inside our room without any notice to show the room around without any mask or sanitary cleaning amidst the covid situation. It was a disappointing stay in this place which we should have omitted during our trip.

During our Sri Lanka vacation, we stayed at the Amaranthe Bay Resort for the last two nights. The Junior Suite we booked was spacious and elegant, with the highlight being the Jacuzzi Bath – a perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploration. Adding to its charm, the balcony offered a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding nature, and we were fortunate to witness stunning sunsets over the nearby lake, creating unforgettable memories.
Although the resort's large inviting pool was enjoyable, some sharp corners around the area caused minor inconveniences and led to an unfortunate toe injury. Nevertheless, our overall experience remained highly enjoyable.
The hotel's convenient location allowed easy access to the ocean and beach, where we found several delightful restaurants for lunch or dinner.
Inside the resort, we had the pleasure of dining at their lovely restaurant, offering reasonable prices and a varied, tasty breakfast. The staff was friendly and attentive, and while there was a minor disagreement about the exchange rate during payment, the managers handled the situation with professionalism, swiftly resolving any issues and leaving us with a positive impression of their commitment to guest satisfaction.
Amaranthe Bay Resort's well-maintained and peaceful ambiance made our stay perfect.

We stayed at Amaranthe Bay for two nights with our two young daughters. The location of the resort was on the banks of a river and it was beautiful. The rooms and all the facilities were very clean. The staff went out if their way to make things comfortable for us. The Chief Chef was wonderful, every meal was tasty and he went out of his way to make meals that were suitable for my vegetarian husband and for the kids. Lovely stay, we really enjoyed ourselves. The only thing I would think needs a change is the general interior design and aesthetics to give the resort a more luxurious feel.

Stayed here on a room only basis for 3 nights in a junior suite with double jacuzzi bath. The room is large and airy, with modern control panel for lights aircon, fan etc. The jacuzzi bath was great, with big panoramic window and filled quickly regarding its large size and was very comfy. They had very nice toiletries and next to the bath were bath bombs which you could purchase for a small fee.We had a view of the estuary, which was lovely, watching the birdlife and the cows crossing the river. The pool was beautiful, a good size with nice sunloungers and drinks service and the whole area was very clean. The road down to the hotel is a bumpy little track at the end of a dead end road but dont let that put you off, because the whole place seemed very well maintained.

Returned to this fabulous hotel; even had the same junior suite overlooking the lake . Felt like coming home about was great to see Anne again. ( Vanakkam ).
One hotel can appear the same as any other but people make places and all the staff at the Amaranthe Bay are attentive and welcoming. Sageeth in particular greeted us with a friendly smile and a genuine welcome back. The duty manager (Mr Sri ) however was less engaging but that’s okay, because his staff make such an effort to please.
Sadly Chef Navindra had apparently gone off to the Maldives but his successor Chef Nuwan did not disappoint. The food was delicious so don’t rush in the morning. Reserve enough time for a long, leisurely breakfast served to order. Although no muesli, warm oats with raisins, fresh banana and curd was perfect as was the eggs Benedict or poached eggs on toast.
So big thanks to all
Will definitely return
PS Don’t be put off by the location not being on the ocean front. The situation overlooking the inlet is tranquil and quite wonderful with easy access to beach via hotel boat .

Without doubt one of the favorite hotels I stayed during my last vacation on 13th of July 2020.Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the staff. The staff was extremely friendly, the restaurant very flexible (appreciate this!) and the chef Nuwan Don and restaurant Staff deserve a special thanks. Delicious food🍲.
We had two great evenings here, which obviously also added up to the experience. The scenery was beautiful and it was a relieve to walk in such a quiet and peaceful environment. The atmosphere is so special that it really felt like home to me. All respect for the Chef Nuwan who does a great job here; a true sample of excellent hospitality!
I highly recommend this hotel.

Hi, it was fine for us. Can't remember any issues.
It's 10 minutes walk from our hotel.
About $5 per drink I’d say

Sutton in Ashfield, England, United Kingdom3 contributions3 helpful votesHi, We are planning to stay at the Amaranthe Bay in April 2019 flying in to Colombo first. Can I ask the best transfer method from Colombo to Trincomalee? We've considered the train but ruled that out.
Private hire van but it’ll cost you upwards of 20k usually. Not a very cost effective way of traveling but if money is no issue then go for it! :-)
I go frequently to Trinco - night ‘luxury’ bus leaves at 10 and 11pm from Colombo central and arrives 4am ish. 1200 rupees per person. Contact ‘Superline’ bus travels. It’s a coach and pretty comfortable.
Hi - Of course our hotel is facing to the lagoon, but the beach is just 10 minutes walking distance also we provide free shuttle service to the beach 3 times in every day.
Thank you
