Reminiscent of an old tea plantation, the Gurung lodge comprises a handful of traditional Gurung houses dotted around a delightfully well-kept garden, on the edge of Majhgaon village. It’s a short drive from Pokhara to the closest road head, followed by an hour’s climb. But at 4,620 feet altitude, the real attraction is the amazing views of surrounding peaks and valleys. In the warm and distinctive main room, a great fire is lit, a hearty meal is laid out on a long wooden dining table—international cuisine, typically—and after dinner, musical instruments will come out, or simply a spoon and container, as guides entertain guests with Nepalese music. The atmosphere is very convivial.

This was one of the most incredible places we stayed in Nepal. After a long day of hiking we entered the lodge grounds and it was like stepping into a mountain dream. There are absolutely gorgeous views of the Anapurna range at sunset and sunrise. The rooms were cozy and they provide coats, hats & gloves in each room if you need them. Showers are heated by solar power so take one before nightfall! The food was fantastic - ask for local style food. It was one of the best dinners we had in Nepal. They had tea and coffee ready for us and woke us up before dawn so we could watch the sunrise over the mountains - it was absolutely incredible. If you are in the area, this is the place to stay. They only take advance bookings so plan ahead here. Majgaon Lodge is a magical place.

If you are considering trekking through the Annapurna Valley... Gurung Lodge is a must! This place is the full package... it has the natural beauty in all directions, it has a tremendous staff, and it is surrounded by a village with lovely people!

During our month of travel, Gurung Lodge stands out as one of the most memorable and beautiful places we stayed. The sunrise and sunset simply cannot be beat and they have wonderful chairs all over their property to take in the sights.

I would highly recommend this lodge and I would recommend taking advantage of the crowds being thin to explore this region, completely unspoiled! You won't regret it.

I only got to spend one night at Gurund Lodge, but it was magical. I was there with a friend; it was the first day of a two day trek, and due to the Corona Virus pandemic, we were the only guests. We were told the lodge would be closing, as all reservations had been canceled. At no cost to us, my friend was given her own room. We were treated like princesses by Jit and his staff. The view of the mountains, Annapurna South, right outside our rooms, was breathtaking. We did not want for anything. I appreciated all the little extra touches - happy hour, free laundry service, a great fire in the empty dining room, lounge chairs on the lawn outside our rooms, warm tuque and gloves provided in our room, against the cold evenings and mornings. All meals we were served were fabulous. After dinner, musical instruments came out and our guides entertained us with Nepalese music, a drum, and a spoon and container. I believe that had we been two of many, many guests, we still would have received wonderful, attentive, and friendly service. Just seeing Jit's beautiful smile was a blessing. I hope to return and really trek through the Annapurna range of mountains. The Gurund Lodge was as oasis... and I hope it will be there in the future for me to return to. You must go there if you can...you will not be disappointed!

Both of the Mountain Lodges we overnighted in were absolutely stunning in design, location and so much more. The staff were welcoming, friendly and each greeted us with wet towels and a welcome drink.

In the evening, we had fires both outside and inside.

Trust me on this.... the sunrise is worth every penny and step to go to these lodges.

This lodge is stunning with amazing views. The beds are comfy, plenty of hot water from a solar-powered shower. Warm jackets and hats and hot tea in the morning so you can watch the sunrise over the mountains. Food was very good and staff very helpful. Hot water bottles put into our beds at nighttime and beds very comfy.

We stayed 1 night. The lodges are on a sunny terrace facing the mountains. A short walk to an old mountain village with a small museum.
Nice fires in the restaurant with wholesome food.
Rooms were clean, accept the hot water bottle offered !
It’s worth getting up at dawn for the view

Of the 4 Kerr & Downey lodges for most people this will be the Third, if you are doing the standard Sacred Mountain Trek (and I highly recommend you do - see my reviews of the other 3).
They are all set up along similar lines, with full time excellent staff and given where they are located, are all extremely comfortable. Gurung is the newest lodge and has the Largest rooms. To be honest in terms of space and comfort, this lodge is the stand out Lodge. However, you don't get the mountain views here that make Basanta and Himalaya lodges so special and the garden is spread out on terraces so it is not as inclusive for a group as the other 3 beautiful gardens which is the centre of the others. My abiding memory of this lodge was the staff delivery the afternoon tea to all the rooms in the middle of a thunderstorm, that's customer service for you, the roaring fire and the music and dancing in the evening. The largest of the communal areas as well, the food in this lodge was excellent. Highly Recommended

After a 6.5 trek from Himalaya Lodge we reached Gurung Lodge. It seems to sit naturally in its place not disturbing any of the beautiful surroundings. The lodges are very quaint and are built in a traditional Nepalese style. The gardens are very well kept, full of yellow marigolds and beautiful flowering shrubs. They are a haven for butterflies and overlook the mountain ranges. It's so peaceful except for the odd cicada. The rooms were more than adequate and each one has its own seating and cane sun loungers. We spent some time taking in the rays of the sun looking out to the most stunning views watching the sun do down. This lodge you can actually reach by car and has many easy walks around the area. Each lodge is clear on asking you not to leave food out as it will encourage mice. We were woken one night to the noise of little scurrying animals in the roof one of the other couples staying in the lodge announced at breakfast they had ended up chasing a mouse around the their room during the night. This is certainly not a real problem just part of the fact these lodges are in rural countryside where the main source of food grown is millet. As with all the Kerry & Downey lodges they offered a great service and a warm and friendly stay.

We arrived at beautiful Gurung Lodge after a three hour trek (taking the long route) from Sanctuary Lodge. On route we passed some spectacular scenery and several lovely little villages. We were greeted at the lodge with a glass of cool lemonade served by the friendly, ever smiling staff. As with Sanctuary Lodge, the room was clean, comfortable and contained everything we needed including drinking water, a torch, extra blankets, umbrellas, shower gel & shampoo, towels, sandals etc. The room felt very airy due to the high ceiling and we had our own sun loungers outside on a little patio area - perfect on which to admire the lovely view. Lunch was plentiful & tasty. Happy hour (free drinks) is from 18.00 - 19.00 in which time I managed to down 3 G&T's whilst sitting around the open fire and nibbling on crisps & popcorn before a lovely dinner - bliss! The following morning, I awoke to coffee delivered to our room and the most beautiful views of Annapurna South, Annapurna 1 and Hiunchuli. A hearty breakfast was served of muesli, poached eggs, sausage with tomatoes, onions & peppers, curried potatoes and toast. I really cannot fault this lodge. Great staff, amazing views, excellent food and hospitality and remarkable comfortable rooms given the remote location.
