We spent two nights at Gorkha Gaun in October, just before the Dashain Festival. Upon our arrival at 10 am, accompanied by our Nepali driver, we were initially met with a language barrier. The staff didn’t speak English, leaving us somewhat puzzled as we were handed a key to our cottage without any accompanying information.

Fortunately, our concerns were alleviated after lunch when the manager extended a warm welcome. At that time, we were the sole guests, affording us a wonderful opportunity to engage in a pleasant conversation. The manager explained that they employ local people from the village who are in the process of learning. The meals served in the restaurant, perched atop a scenic hill, are exclusively prepared with fresh, organic ingredients. Since they do not stockpile supplies, the menu selection is naturally limited to what they grow and are available, but they were very tasty.

The manager also guided us on a stroll through the local community, providing an intriguing glimpse into the lives of the residents and their coexistence with various animals. Our cottage was a testament to local architectural aesthetics, featuring ample windows and modern amenities. Each property was equipped with solar panels, ensuring a consistent supply of electricity and hot water. The hilltop location offered breathtaking vistas, making it the perfect vantage point to witness both sunrise and sunset. Our nights were serenaded by the soothing sounds of crickets, and our mornings were greeted by the sweet melodies of birdsong.

The following day, our programme was to drive to Gorkha City, where we visited the historic Gorkha Palace and museum. We also tasted traditional sweets, freshly prepared by a local lady. By the end of the second day, we felt thoroughly relaxed and rejuvenated.

Gorkha Gaun may not be a luxury resort, but it is a charming retreat nestled amidst stunning natural surroundings, where you can have an authentic experience.

A spectacular location with some beautiful landscaping makes up for a few minor shortfalls - the wifi signal is only really available at the reception area and the rural nature of the surroundings does encourage insects and other animals to come inside occasionally. The rooms are very simple and the bed and pillow I had were somewhat hard. However, the food was nice and we got great service from the young waitress whose name I didn't catch. Great mountain views from all over the resort, and some lovely village walks available from the reception area, which gives a good insight into rural life in the region.

Stumbled upon this hidden gem while on a biking trip to Gorkha. Beautiful resort with impeccable service. The rooms are spacious and have been done in typical Nepali architecture with a view of the Himalayan range.

We will be back soon.

We stayed as a group of 7 and had a wonderful visit. The accommodations were nice and the resort has beautiful views all around. The best part of the visit was the kind and friendly staff and the delicious homemade meals that they make for guests. We only stayed one night but they made a delicious traditional Nepali dinner for us and a wonderful breakfast in the morning. Thank you very much to the kind employees for making our visit a great one!

I would highly recommend taking a short trip from Katmandu to visit Gorkha Gaun! If you want a break from the busy city, this is definitely the trip for you. The views are exceptional and one of the best sunsets I have ever seen. The staff are lovely and make you feel at home.

There are plenty of activities which you can take part in, including dressing up in traditional clothing, visiting the Gorkha Palace and having a go at making traditional food.

Its also a lovely place to really relax and read a book and to enjoy the fresh air.

Very much a surprise! This compact, ecologically designed inn/resort is majestically situated with views every way a person looks. Keshab Kunwar, who is the resort’s director, conceived the idea and worked tirelessly to make it a reality. My wife and I loved the integration of solar panels, the use of a cistern to gravity feed the water to the cottages, and the central garden from which much of their produce was harvested. Designed with growth in mind, Keshab has put much thought into all aspects of the resort. Tasty food and spacious cottages makes this a location worth adding to your travel plans.

What an amazing experience! After the hustle & bustle of Kathmandu this was a welcome retreat in a breath taking location and with staff who gave excellent service. I wont repeat all the positives said by previous reviewers but fully agree with them all. If you are looking for a real taste of rural Nepal then this won't disappoint. The manager and the staff were exceptional and I only wish we had been able to stay longer.

I stayed overnight at Gorkha Gaun in the recommendation of the owner of a previous place I’d stayed in.

It’s a few km from the centre of Gorkha, which was fine for me. The hotel organised a cab into town. From there I was happy to explore and make my own way back.

The room was comfortable, with the largest bed I’ve ever seen in my life! A terrace and a comfy chair to sit outside would be a good idea though. No air con - just a fan. This was ok as the room didn’t get too hot. Bathroom worked well. Nice shower. Wi-Fi so-so. Not too bad.

It’s hard to give an accurate review, as I was the only person staying there. It felt eerily silent, and I didn’t really like being the sole focus of attention. Clearly with a few guests and a bit of a buzz around the place, things would feel very different. But the staff were friendly, the food was good, and I enjoyed sitting out with a beer after my hike.

I hope things pick up for them soon.

Beautiful place. Friendly staff. Fantastic views
Food was ok. But pretty basic
Breakfast meagre. Just assumed all 6 of us liked eggs. No cups / kettle / tea bags in room. They provided a flask of hot water. But no coffee or tea which seemed odd. I like a cuppa in bed to start the day

Bathroom fantastic. Beds ok. Did provide second duvet as it dropped in quite cold
Fantastic views in all directions
So fortunate to see a village wedding
Staff lovely It is very isolated. Peaceful. Apart from its right on a flight path
Loved the door lock. The place has been so sensitively built. Totally blends into the area.

No wine ! Six Brits booked in. No wine ! Gin? Yes we have gin. But no tonic water ! They eventually found three bottles
