The hotel is very central and the immediate vicinity of Bhaktapur is within walking distance very well to explore.
Rooms are clean, there are even mosquito screens on the windows and a large fan in case the nights are warmer.
The food (breakfast, lunch, dinner) is fantastic and is prepared extremely hygienically, the staff even disinfect their hands before plates and cutlery are brought in, so hotel-induced stomach/intestinal problems are avoided.
The staff speak English and are very accommodating and friendly.
A great place to open up and surrender to Nepal's spiritual energies.

The location on Durbar Square could not be bettered. The service was first class including arranging taxis for us. The room and shared bathroom were small, simple and typical of Nepalese rooms at this price point. We had a lovely view over the Square (still being rebuilt after the earthquake but still an incredibly beautiful place). We visited in the coldest month and there is permanent natural ventilation in all the rooms meaning it was certainly rather cold but we anticipated this and supplemented the bedding with our warm sleeping bags. If you don’t have these and visit in winter ask for more blankets. I am sure they will give you some. Breakfast was great too. I would stop again if visiting without doubt.

I travel to Nepal every year. Shiva Guesthouse is where I like to stay the most. Whether a regular visitor or first timer, guests are treated like family. Nepal was closed to foreigners for eight months and opened to trekkers only one month ago. For this reason tourism-related businesses are all closed. But Shiva is open. I spent the past week here to fulfill the quarantine requirement. Shiva’s restaurant is open with a reduced menu, but the manager offered to make anything else if I asked him. Such is the hospitality you can expect.

Actually this is an ideal time to visit Bhaktapur. In normal times there is an overabundance of trinket shops. But right now, almost all are closed for lack of tourists. The local culture and traditions are more apparent. Keep safe, but come to Bhaktapur if you can.

This place is right in the middle of the medieval areas of Bhaktapur, in front of temples and in a very historic building, comfy bed, good shower.
The restaurant has everything you need, great food, cold beer, very good breakfast.
We really love the place and would stay again.

We didn't stay here (but I wish we had), but we came constantly for breakfast, lunch and dinner. As others have said, the restaurant really exceeds expectations. I had no idea that we would have such fresh, healthy, tasty and safe food in Nepal. (FYI, in 2.5 weeks, nobody in our family had any stomach ailments, again defying what we expected in Nepal). The kids loved everything and ate so well. The owner even played soccer with my son each day while we waited for the meals. Just superb.

The location is superb, and the staff are so warm, friendly, and supportive. This was a great experience! As it turns out, we visited Bhaktapur’s Durbar Square on a day when there was filming going on, so we got to take in some performances by dancers and drummers. What fun!

One of the best place to hang around in Bhaktapur. Clean and hygienic rooms. Coffee shop and food is very good as well.
Located at the heart of Bkt square, its own of the best in the city. Price are reasonable too.

My friend and i visited Bhaktapur for a few days, during our 3 week visit to Nepal in Oct/Nov06.

The Shiva Hotel is situated directly on Durbar Square, as you enter the gates to the city.

We were able to secure a room immediately, which was very spacious and immaculate, and being a front room, we had a fantastic view acrosss Durbar Square and the amazing various temples which stand upon it.

The staff were very friendly and this was reflected in the relaxed and fun atmosphere which existed, especially at evening meals.

I would highly recommend a stay at the Shiva, the service and food they provide is second to none.

Bhaktapur is a truly amazing ancient city to visit.

We never booked anything when we arrived in Bhaktapur. We tried to check few guest houses including the Peacock but the prices are pretty high. We end up in Shiva since its already dark. Location is great but the bell in the opposite temple is a bit annoying specially when you want to sleep. We decided to moved to other guest house which is located at the back of Shiva.
We had dinner and breakfast at Shiva's restaurant, well food is ok. Its fun when you sit outside having meal while watching tourist taking pictures.
