The lodge is nicely located in a huge park, already upon arrival giraffes are crossing your path! The pool area is very nice and comfortable, although starting around 4pm you will be eaten by mosquitos so make sure to have you bug spray ready to go. The rooms are very nice, spaecous and comfortable- watchout though are the carpets which are slipping on the floor like crazy. In terms of service there are some clear shortcomings, upon arrival no information was volunteered around activities or also the spa for example which is supposed to be of interest at this hotel. bar tenders were completely lost - even a gin tonic was a challenge. The worst part though was the dinner which entailed amongst other things a sad salad with industrial mayonnaise sauce and worst of all a completely chewy/hard oryx steak. We both could not eat the meat and hence told our waiter that there was an issue... the plate was taken and the explanation was: that the meat came like this... There was no apology, no proposition to get another main dish - the desert was brought without any further comment. Also the pace of the dinner felt rushed, once a plate was taken already the next dish was brought out, which is clearly not a sign of quality.

As with many lodges, this was well off the beaten track but well worth the journey. The lodge is fairly small, with only 18 twin rooms, each in it's own building. The rooms are huge with both indoor and outdoor showers and a balcony from which we could see over the Lodge's own reserve - we sat and watched the giraffes. Very comfortable beds with mosquito netting, although this was not needed when we were there. All facilities, including bathrobes, tea/coffee making, fridge and safe. The rooms are all up a hill - perfectly walkable but the lodge will ferry you around in a golf buggy - just phone reception and they will fetch you. The communal areas are all at the bottom of the hill. There is an infinity pool, spa, bar, restaurant and shop. There is tea, coffee and cake available at the poolside every afternoon. Wi-fi only available in these areas. The bar has a small outside seating area from which you can see over the (rather distant) waterhole, although the animals did come much closer to the lodge as well. With a maximum of 36 guests the restaurant is small and intimate. Breakfast is a buffet with the usual food and drink but good quality. Dinner is a set meal with a choice of 2 main courses, one of which is local meat (oryx/eland etc). Staff are really helpful, friendly and welcoming. We had to leave very early to return to Windhoek and they were happy to provide an early breakfast for us. The lodge is very convenient for game drives in Etosha (about 1 hour away) and it also offers game drives around their own land. There is also a spa, but we didn't use this.

Just two examples that speak for itself. Upon check-in we were told to call the reception at any time should we need something. Guess what: there was no phone in our room, which by the way was #18 the very last one on top of the hill. Great. Our so-called guide/ranger Mario, which I suspect to be more the gardener of the lodge, was unable to answer most of our questions or simply talked about other things than what we were interested in. But he left us at least with the following memorable statement, quote:"the sand is very sandy". Wow who would have thought that? LOL.

Our room/chalet was the size of a small house with a very large balcony overlooking the reserve. Although the rooms are all up a steep hill they will take you to/from them in buggies. There was good wi-fi in the main building. The room had a kettle with tea, coffee, sugar and milk. There was a safe, fridge, air con and mosquito nets over the beds. The huge bathroom had a bath, separate shower, toilet and 2 sinks. The hotel provided hand wash, hand and body soap, foam bath, shower gel, shampoo, body lotion, vanity kit, sewing kit, shower cap, tissues and a hairdryer. There was a lovely, private outdoor shower overlooking the reserve just outside the bathroom. The food was great as was the service. We had a sundowner overlooking on the veranda overlooking the reserve and the waterhole (which was in the distance so bring your binoculars). A double gin and tonic was N$54 and a bottle of nice Sauvignon Blanc was N$320. I would love to have stayed longer as it was a great place to unwind and relax.
