New Hermopolis is an individual non-profit social enterprise founded with the mission of capitalizing on Middle Egypt’s heritage for the cultural and economic development of this region. Our founding is connected to the thought and philosophy of Ancient Hermopolis with its belief in the possibility of harmonious living and the power of art to transform society. It is an Ecological complex in Tune El Gebel village, Minia (20 km from the main city of Mallawi / 320 km from Cairo), and consists of a hospitality centre (visitors' retreat) that is accessible to all the region’s rich antiquity sites including ancient Hermopolis (Tuna El-Gebel & Ashmunin), Akhenaten city (Amarna) and the tombs of Bani Hassan aw well as ‘Cultural Space’ that holds events workshops and performances for the benefit of the local community and international visitors. We also have an Organic Farm with ‘olive groves’ and a ‘vineyard.’ Our hospitality centre consists of 16 studios with a capacity to accommodate up to 40 visitors. We cater mainly for small groups and our tour packages include guided itineraries to the different heritage sites of the region with unique opportunities to learn about this region and its heritage. We also provide a perfect environment for corporate team training, special events such as reunions and weddings as well as yoga, wellness and healing retreats. Short or long term residencies for artists, writers and scholars are also on offer. Please note that we are only open from Oct-May and closed for the summer. You can reach us by car via the eastern/ western desert road direction Assut / exit Mallawi, or by train from Cairo / stop Mallawi followed by a taxi ride to New Hermopolis / Tuna El-Gebel. Transport from Cairo can be arranged on request.

Visiting Akhenaton Sites and Tel Amarna is made much more special by a stay at this very special sanctuary and retreat. The rooms at the property are very beautiful and the grounds contain the sacred Blue Lotus of Egypt. Nearby are some of the most special sites in the area such as the Western Stele of Akhenaton, the underground maize and more. You need a car to really appreciate the area and get from here to Tel Armarna but the very friendly staff at New Hermiopolis can help book a driver for a low cost for you. New Hermiopolis was the location of Thoth .. the great architect and teacher in ancient times.. it is a very special and interesting ambience in this part of Egypt... and you really can feel it in this traditional, and beautifully designed retreat space. Away from usual Tourist Noise it is a great option to retreat to for a few days after a busy frantic Luxor or Cairo tour.

A brilliant sanctuary right in the heart of the Egyptian countryside. Come for the location & historical sites, stay for the beautiful lodge and the hospitality of the staff & owner, Dr Mervat. You will instantly feel at home here. This eco friendly retreat is constructed beautifully, with outstanding attention to detail in every nook & corner. The rooms are homey & comfortable, the grounds are inviting and filled with antique gems that the owner has collected over the years. There's even a lotus pond with the very rare Nile blue lotus flowers! The location is perfect. On the edge of the desert where there's plenty of scenery and quiet, while still walking distance to Ancient Egyptian & Roman Egyptian tombs & catacombs. There is plenty to do & see. There are several antiquities & ruins spread around town as well as a short drive away. The hotel staff can help you arrange everything. In the evenings, Khalid, a staff member & a wonderful host makes a bonfire under the stars. Sharing all his stories with recitations of poetry and song. This is a magical place that more people deserve to visit & enjoy. Thank you New Hermopolis. See you again soon!

The authenticity of our stay at this luxury eco-lodge was reflected through its architecture, food, stunning interiors and lovely staff as well as its founder Dr Mervat Abdel-Nasser. Our late night bonfire sessions with the fantastic Khalid were informative, hilarious and filled with authentic and original Bedouin poetry, stories and songs. If you're looking for a true oasis retreat to escape the noises of everyday life, this is the ideal place for it. Not to mention it is within walking distance from the stunning Pharaonic remains and tombs nearby.

Like staying in a secluded monastery with thick stone walls, domed ceiling and reclaimed doors. Khaled provided excellent attention and information. One evening, we cooked sweet potatoes over the fire. His wife provided delicious food and you won’t forget the lentil soup. It’s only two kilometres to the archeological sites but you don’t need to leave. I wished I could have stayed a week.

The retreat is beautifully constructed and perfectly positioned in a most interesting part of middle Egypt - King Akhenaten's city. The rooms are simple but comfortable with all amenities and are built to surround the lotus pool where you can see the blue lotus open to the sun in the morning and close in the evening. There is a sense of peace and timelessness and everything is in harmony. The food is excellent and Khaled the manager is a wonderful host and goes out of his way to make you feel welcome and enjoy your stay. I look forward to returning to this amazing place.
