The Landmark Inn garners mixed reviews, with guests often lauding its prime location near attractions and the historic ambiance it offers. However, opinions on the rooms vary; some guests commend their cleanliness and views, whereas others point out the need for renovation and more thorough cleaning. While the service is occasionally praised for being attentive, issues with understaffing and neglect have been noted. Additionally, some travelers question the value, criticizing the pricing in relation to the quality of accommodations and service provided.

The Landmark is an interesting stay. I want to start out by saying the waitress was excellent and food delicious (the waitress wore a well fitting mask and gloves as well as kitchen staff). The hotel deserves a 3 for COVID awareness. Hand sanitizer is located at the reservation desk and the desk clerk wore a mask. The room was a bit small and dark but that may be as intended. Bathroom was updated. All that said, the hotel is located near restaurants and bars for a evening out if interested (a perfect downtown location).

The check in process was proficient and expeditious, conducted by friendly and professional staff. One employee indicated that parts of this hotel were restored from analyzing old photographs. This hotel’s lobby felt like stepping back in time…the old elegance and great architecture were pleasing. A lounge area includes a high ceiling, fine woodwork, leather furniture, a fireplace, numerous chandeliers, and a grand piano. Walls of the interior corridors were beautifully decorated.

Located on the 5th floor, this average-sized room has a somewhat darker décor and a bright bathroom, a comfortable bed, a small armoire, and a playing device for iPad devices. Views of the Harbor Basin [Lake Superior], First Presbyterian Church, and the Lower Harbor Ore Dock make staying here a fine experience.

The staff handled issues in an expeditious manner. Even with no messages waiting, the red light on the phone continued to flash. When a call was made to the lobby, an employee came up to the room within minutes. There was sufficient parking…most of the time.

On several occasions, room service was ordered. Limited items are available after 5 p.m. There was a misquote of the preparation time for the “Tortellini and Steak”. However, this dinner was received in a reasonable amount of time, was thoroughly cooked and warm when received, and had a great taste. The next day, a Piña Colada was delivered within the time frame promised.

The room we had was No. 213, which was big and spacious with two queen size beds, couch, easy chair, small table & chair, wardrobe, dresser, and night stand. Our bathroom consisted of a handicap shower, sink, and toilet with hand rails to accommodate. Unfortunately the bed mattresses were too soft and did not provide back support. So it was painful getting out of bed for me and my wife.
We did eat in the dining room the night of our stay and the food was great along with the service. The front desk employees were very courteous and professional in their handling of guests and provided a lot of great tips for shopping in the area and for breakfast and coffee shops. This hotel does not provide breakfast at the present time so it is best to ask what businesses do offer breakfast. The breakfast and coffee shops are within walking distance of the hotel, which is roughly around three or four blocks walking distance.
If you like history and old woodwork carpentry as I do then you will love this hotel. It is a piece of art in itself and well worth the stay.
Would I stay at this hotel again? Yes. The only thing I would do differently is ask for a room with firmer mattresses.
All guests are required to wear masks going into the building, which everyone I seen was doing and everyone followed the six foot distancing guidelines.

We have had to travel frequently due to our college aged daughter going to school 9 hrs away. We have given a large amount of grace to all restaurants and hotels during the pandemic. I nearly didn't write this until my experience this morning checking out.

The property is in one of my favorite parts of Marquette with lots of shops and restaurants and near the shore of Lake Superior. It's clear that the hotel did a remodel recently. It's hard to know where to stop when you want to retain the historical charm of your property but I would have advised tearing up the old green low pile. It's ugly and made the room smell awful. They could also ditch the heavily brocaded curtains (also odor retainers). The beds look nice with white cotton duvets - very European with only flat sheets. However, the mattresses are lumpy and the pillows have zero support. We were ready to be done after two nights of that plus the loud door bangings of neighboring guests due to lack of soft close hinges.

I understand there would be no housekeeping. I prefer that, but don't make your guests ask for extras at the desk. Provide extra towels and extra coffee at the start.

Also, SALT YOUR PROPERTY. My husband went to get the car at 8 am and had to salt the entrance himself. The day before the parking lot was a sheet of ice on top of lumps of ice. Unacceptable.

I wish it had been better.

Limited parking and the lot was in poor condition. Not a major deterrent but something to be aware of here especially if you have a larger vehicle or are hauling boats/jet skis/etc. The check in process was easy and hassle free. Our room was spacious with a comfortable bed. Nice bathrooms. No issues with the room.

My wife did encounter some terrible service the next morning. As my wife was checking out she asked the clerk (different person from previous day at check in) if they had a printer on site as she wanted to print out some tickets. The girl told her yes and simply pointed her to the stairs. My wife made her way to a long and poorly lit staircase. When she got to the top there were no light switches and the halls were also pitch black. She navigated her way through the dark to the end of the hall. There was one room that was unlocked and it had a printer in it. But alas no computers. ??? So my wife made her way back to the front desk. When she mentioned that everything was locked down and that she couldn’t get into the business center the clerk sarcastically stated “you only asked if we had printers. You didn’t ask if the business center was open to use the printers.” My wife handled the situation more gracefully than I would have.

I know that the actions of one associate shouldn’t ruin the overall experience but needless to say it left a really bad taste in our mouth. And based on that person who thought it would be funny to send my wife on a wild goose chase we will never return to this establishment.
Our recommendation is to find a place with better parking and a better staff. We won’t be returning.

Unfortunately this stay was disappointing, I understand restricted service but not poor service. Hotel is a landmark and great location and view.

No room service or even a daily check to exchange towels, soap, linen, or coffee. One small bar of soap and small shampoo for a week stay. You can go down to desk and carry towel back.

Restaurant only one in hotel and you can’t reserve a spot and the town restaurants are closed. Can’t use bikes and full bar has nothing but beer hard liquor and wine, no mixes no lemon lime or anything else. We emptied our own trash. Booked in December and paid top dollar. No discount for no service and we used and cleaned our coffee cups for a week.

Location is good but not worth the price

Suggestion, daily call or checkin with guests and allow guests priority reservations for dinner. And a lemon or lime would be nice all the other bars have then as well as mixes, there is a coop in town.

Covid reduces services and social distancing is important but no excuse for no service.

We came to Marquette to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary. Sadly, there was nothing special about our stay and I would say that the description of this being a luxurious boutique hotel is over selling it, to put it kindly.
We were greeted by an employee at the front desk who was competent but certainly not overly friendly or welcoming. Our room too, was underwhelming. It is dated and showing its wear and tear. We had the Amelia Earhart room on the 5th floor, and the one positive thing about this particular room is the view of Lake Superior. Other than that, the room was very basic and the bed was uncomfortable.
We had 3 meals during our stay despite the dining room offering very limited service due to Covid. I will say that the young lady in the dining room and young man in the bar area were very friendly and gave good service, and the food we had was delicious.
Overall this hotel was a big let down and I’m sorry we stayed here. I would not recommend it, nor would I visit here again.

Staying at the Landmark used to be a special treat. It is still a great location but the hotel feels dated and old with mediocre service and amenities. Our room felt stuffy and cramped and the room air conditioner was so loud it was hard to sleep. Our one bar of soap had to be moved back and forth from sink to shower. I realize Covid has changed what can be offered but more could be done to justify the price of the room. Pretty depressing place.

We have stayed at the Landmark Inn twice before. Our last stay was in 2019 prior to this time. The hotel has always been quite charming with each room being filled with antique furniture and different wallpaper/themes for each room. This is an old building with an art nouveau
feel to it.
The room we stayed in had been redone - wall paper stripped and repainted a gray color with a blue accent wall. The antiques had been removed and replaced with laminated wood furnishings. The lamps were still old though. The chairs were fine although they were a brilliant dark blue shade. There were no curtains only pull down blinds. There was a fancy mirror otherwise there was no art work on the walls to pull together the bright blue chair and accent wall.
Our room was not serviced due to Covid protocols. We asked for more towels and and an additional bar of soap which we were given.
We paid $740+ for the two nights we stayed. For this high dollar amount I would have liked to have had: 2 bars of soap, glasses or plastic cups in the bathroom (there were two glasses by the ice container but none in the bathroom), robes (only the suites have robes), more towels so I didn’t have to ask for more, a complimentary bottle of water, a refrigerator without having to ask for one, a makeup mirror attached to the wall, artwork on the walls and a more homey feeling to the room.
Oddly, we kept thinking the king bed was bigger than our king bed at home… we realized that the bed had been turned side ways to make it bigger which caused it to be shorter length wise. We only knew this because my husband is 6’5” so his feet hung off the end of the bed. Because of this my husband slept very poorly. Why a hotel would do this is beyond comprehension.
On a happy note, the staff was amazing and so kind. Nate went out of his way to offer us a more private place to have a bottle of champagne and various snacks. Our room stayed nice and cool and the water pressure was great.
Overall, our stay was was pleasant but the changes that are happening in the hotel are not consistent with the style of the building. The design team should rethink the quality of furnishings and direction of the design.

I had to a meeting in Marquette and decided to make a night of it with my partner. I used to live in Marquette and remember the Landmark being a nice hotel. Even though the price was higher than other hotels, the photos of the rooms looked better than other hotels. After checking, in I was extremely disappointed.

The front desk staff did a bad job letting me know what hotel amenities were open and available. The room was extremely dated, the bed had two pillows, the furniture was very worn, and the room was dusty and spider webs were in the windows. The towels are also very rough and the bathroom only had one bar of soap and cheap Crabtree and Evelyn shampoo and conditioner (made in China). For the price you would expect better quality amenities.

I am aware that there is a pandemic going on and things are just reopening. However, for the price paid this was not worth it at all. I asked for a better room on my reservation online, and even said I was willing to pay extra, but no offer was made at check in.

Most hotels also have space to sit down in the lobby. Unfortunately, the only time there is space to sit down is at the pub between 4pm and 8pm. In the morning there was nowhere to sit and read a book except my room.

I left this place expecting more.

Answer from Michael G
The front desk system will authorize the expected amount of room and tax plus a small percentage for potential incidentals. Any additional amount not needed to cover actual charges will be released at check out and typically takes a few days to fully release depending on individual bank policies concerning pending charges.

Some rooms have a partial lake view, but when we were there it was foggy, so not sure which ones are best. But upstairs on the top floor there are large windows on the lake side. On the top floor there is also a bar. They have a pub on the ground floor and a Italian restaurant on the ground floor also. Call the Landmark and I am sure they will find you a wonderful room. Lovely place!

Hi, I won't have a car---can the hotel arrange airport dropoff at MQT?
Answer from Michael G
Our hotel contracts with Checker Cab to provide transportation to and from the airport. Please call the front desk to make arrangements.
