Detailed Reviews

The resort is well named. It seems to be a good economical place for people that like fishing, but it also would be good for biking, hiking or other outdoor activities. It's not really a family resort. Although the lakeshore view is great, you probably aren't going to want to hang out at the cabin all week. It's an up nort place, not the Ritz. The owners are very friendly and nice people. I would stay here again.

Down home satisfying cooking. Looks out on beautiful Lake Gogebic. Nothing fancy but good eats! Whitefish from Lake Superior delish. Off the beaten path but worth the ride. Crowded tho so get there as early as possible.

Very nice clean cabin. Bathroom, beds, pillows and sofa all smelled clean and fresh. Great having a fine restaurant and bar within walking distance away. Staff was friendly, helpful and fun to hang out with. Our cottage was only 50ft from the lake. Highly recommend anyone to stay here.

Went there for dinner it was recommended by one of the forest range rs. I had the poor man’s lobster just basically cod in butter sauce. I wouldn’t recommend it. Don’t get the deep fried brussels sprouts, They retained lots of oil. The salad with tomato slice and some lettuce. My wife got the fish fry and coleslaw and she liked it. Poor man’s lobster was 25 bucks I wouldn’t recommend it.

Booked well over a month in advance. Upon arrival we were told the docks weren’t in but they were working on it. There was no work on it and everyone at camp had to take their boats in & out all week. It was a royal pain to do w/the waves from north winds. Should have been given a discount. If you aren’t ready to open, then DON’T open your camp. 1st family vacation since b4 the pandemic and I felt robbed by the camp operator who was rarely around.

I have stayed here multiple times and every time multiple people from our group have issues with the guy who runs the cottages. He is a bully and treats his guest horribly. I will never stay here again after looking at other AirBNB options. If the manager was nice I might be able to over look the ladybugs, ants, and low water pressure showers.
Location on the lake is great and the food at the restaurant and manager/bar tenders are great. Eat hear don't stay here unless there is nothing available.

I have been going to Fishtales for over 25 years, Summertime and winter, I am a big snowmobiler, Brenda and Jon our the best, whenever i need a room or even one summer Jon let me rent his pontoon, they were always very gracious, reasonable, and accommodating. They run a first class operation, the cabins are fantastic and reasonably priced. I can only only say this, that if someone thinks they had a bad experience at Fishtales, you better look in the mirror and figure out that your the problem.

We normally do not write reviews but we feel like we should say something. At check in, Jed, who we believe is the manager went on and on (very loudly in front of the whole dining room to hear) about how they will charge us 3% for paying by credit card and they would rather we pay with cash. This was not an option and we told him we will pay with a card. This process took forever. Once the transaction was complete my wife asked if she could have the room key. Jed responded to her "not until I get what I want from you." We should have walked out right then. Finally we checked in, got to the room only to find the room was something from the 1960's, smelled like mildew.and was an icebox. They never bothered to turn the heat up. We then proceeded to dinner at the Fishtales restaurant (we had driven all day and wanted close by) only to have fish that tasted like burnt oil. The owners were present in the restaurant but extremely unfriendly. Jed yelled at waitstaff in front of customers. Waitstaff was not very knowledgeable. The list just kept growing. It was just bad all around. We originally had reservations at a different lodge but cancelled to stay at Fishtales because it looked nice and had a restaurant / bar right there. Spent $50 more per night and it was the worst experience ever.

Hey Rob, just looking thru reviews, I'm so very sorry u had a bad experience with Jed. His behavior is unexceptable, not to mention the comment to your wife. I also, see that no one responded to your review. I do apologize for that as well. Jon and I being the owners, were not on the property at the time. Jed informed us about it, and said he took care of it. After reading your review, he was obviously not honest with us. Just to let u know, he is no longer employed with us. If you consider us again, I promise ur stay will be much better. Thanks for your time.

Stopped in with a group of 16 snowmobiling and the owners John and Brenda were great hosts. Had Gerri for a waitress she did a great job and had us laughing and with full drinks throughout the evening. There new chef is outstanding, he hand cut Ribeyes for us and had 4 homemade desserts for us to choose from. The carrot cake was the best I have had. Will definitely be going back they earned our business and whatever I can send there way.

We were staying at a lodge down the street but are here whenever we could. They have the absolute best chicken!! Says on menu it's served after 4 but they serve it all day. Their steak bites are to die for! Tender steak with blue cheese and fried onions underneath. Just delicious!! The Philly cheesesteak was a huge hit too. The owner John is about as friendly as it gets. You must go here to at least eat. Opens daily at noon
