The year was 1867, an era of horse-drawn carriages and ladies in bustles. Blacksmiths were crafting horse shoes in glowing forges. During this height of Victorian culture, the Inn on Mackinac was built. Known then as Chateau Beaumont in memory of the famous Army surgeon at Fort Mackinac, the Inn on Mackinac has retained its quaint, old fashioned charm. The Inn’s facilities have been updated to meet the needs of the modern traveler while preserving its colorful history. Today, completely remodeled and redecorated, this beautiful Victorian Inn opens its doors, where the very special charm of our family-run Inn awaits you.

This is labelled as a B&B, but it's more of a boutique hotel. It's located a 7 minute walk from the heart of downtown, which was fine by us. We'd rather not be in the thick of all the bustle. Our room was very quiet, and had plenty of room, with 2 queens, as well as a wingback chair for reading. The bathroom was really small, and it was a challenge to get out of the shower/tub, and not get tangled up with the toilet.

Front desk staff were always friendly and helpful. They had take away boxes of fresh baked cookies every night at 6 pm! Breakfast was really limited, probably due to COVID restrictions, with the hard boiled eggs very cold and dry, and the coffee not good at all. The little pastries, however, were very fresh and crispy/flaky.

Everything was super clean, both in the room and throughout the common areas.
They have duvets separately wrapped in plastic for you to add to the bed if you're needing additional layers. WiFi was barely adequate at times. The cost per room is probably one of the lowest on the island, and we felt it was excellent value. We'd stay here again, in a heartbeat.

I took my wife to Mackinac Island for her 60th birthday and spent 4 nights at this establishment. What a neat place. The landscaping is exquisite and the interior matching the theme of the island. We stayed in room 401 which was huge with a turret that overlooked the main street and the harbor. Downtown Mackinac was a short 5 minute walk west and was quiet 3 of the 4 nights.
They have a continental breakfast that comes with the cost of the room and I ate Trix cereal for the first time in about 40 years. lol

Their jacuzzi is great with the water right around 100 degrees and it's a huge tub.

If you like Victorian era surroundings this is the place for you.

Would definitely return here in the future.

There were three of us in our party and we had two separate rooms. Each was very different but charming. The decor stayed true to the age of the house but was comfortable. The rooms were very clean and the staff was very helpful.

It is wheelchair accessible with an elevator.

There is a beautiful wrap around porch great for relaxing at the end of the day. Also a pool, which unfortunately did not have time to use. It looked enticing though.

Our room included a breakfast which was the standard hotel breakfast of cereal, hard boiled eggs, toast, bagels, sweet rolls, fruit, yogurt, juice, tea, and coffee. It was laid out nicely and the eating area was very clean.

We enjoyed our stay immensely and would definitely stay at the Inn on Mackinac again.

I was excited about staying here when I made our reservations in mid January before the COVID pandemic hit. Being part of the vulnerable population, we have been staying in place and hoping for an end to isolation. Now that there is still no end in sight for us, we had to cancel our reservation. It is in 6 weeks - enough time to rebook the room, but the management refused to return any of our $475.00 deposit citing "their policy".
Compared to other hotels that developed sensitive refund policies during this unprecedented time, I find this both greedy and shameless. No one envisioned that there would be a pandemic at the time that this reservation was made, so citing a "policy" that covers it is a patent falsehood.
We want others who are considering booking to be aware of this and give them your cash with your eyes open. I wonder how many other "policies" that they have developed to fleece you?

Response from Kyrsten C, General Manager at Inn on Mackinac
Responded Aug 21, 2020
Hi Mary, with a reservation 6 weeks away from arrival, we are always happy to partially refund original payments, less a credit card processing fee, as stated in our cancellation policy on our website and within the confirmation email that you received at the time of booking. This policy stands all the way until just 14 days before your expected arrival. Your reservation was made using an Online Travel Agency (Hotels.com) so there are many more steps and details in effect that may affect refunding your booking. While you never actually spoke with our management and were never actually denied a refund as you stated, and we have not been contacted on your behalf by your online travel agency, we are still happy to make the same offer we have across other guest reviewing platforms and discuss your reservation with you and approve the refund you are available for!

We stayed for two nights. I booked through Expedia as I was frantic that it was the only room available on any search engines sites on the dates I have available and naturally it was a weekend. The hotel is quaint with old charm finishes. Close to and walking distance to the Main Street, about a 5-minute walk. I heard all the negative reviews like the thin walls, so-só breakfast, etc. The most important things when I book a room is cleanliness and safety. It’s all there and then some.

Room and hotel was nice. Gardens, front porch, and front patio were very nice and the outside of the hotel is beautiful. We really liked the location. Breakfast was no better than what you would get at a Courtyard by Marriot. Hard boiled eggs, muffins, and cereal. I felt that paying 400+ dollars per night, there would be something hot or at least something that made it feel special. It did not. Also we had an espresso and cappuccino at the front of the hotel to have on the patio and they were literally the worst we've ever had anywhere we have ever been. I don't know if it was the type of bean they are using or what. I also felt that the staff was a little standoffish - like there was some sort of attitude that we just weren't picking up or something. They would help you if you asked for something but it wasn't friendly and warm. For 400+ bucks a night, I want friendly and warm.

Check in and out was quick and easy. All employees were extremely nice, courteous, and helpful. The room was clean and beds were comfortable. Small bathroom with toilet and shower. The sink was in the room itself, but this made it convenient to get ready with 4 girls sharing the room. The hot tub was wonderful after a full day of hiking and biking! Location was 5 minutes walk from main street which made for a quiet place to relax.
With covid precautions, continental breakfast was only option here. It was adequate with cereal, oatmeal, assortment of pastries, boiled eggs, fresh fruit, coffee, juice and hot tea.
Overall this was an excellent get away and we would not hesitate to stay here again!

Having our luggage delivered straight from the ferry to our hotel upon our arriving early on the Island was great. Our room was ready early if we wanted to check in, but we were too “busy” :) Room was clean and pleasantly decorated. Bed was queen and very comfortable. Front porch was popular place to sit in late afternoon people/horse watching. Evening warm cookies were yummy. Breakfast was only average, nothing special. No hot items offered, not even toast or bagels. Pastries and rolls were not “homemade” either, but this isn’t advertised as a B&B. Luggage is transported back to ferry after checking out whenever you plan to leave the Island. Staff was friendly and helpful.

What a great place to stay. It was clean, good/friendly service. Room was small but we managed. Not much place at all to hang or put cloths. We basically lived out of suitcases which we normally would not do for 4 nights, but it worked.

Loved sitting on front porch late afternoon after spending all day out. Far enough out of town to not be in the hustle and bustle but yet close enough to walk. Highly recommend.

If coming to island and want to ride bikes, recommend bringing your own. It’s well worth paying the fee to bring on the ferry than renting. We rode all around the island. Never thought I would ride bike in 50 degree weather, but with layers it was nice. Did have to. It a pair of gloves though.

Also recommend getting pre-made sandwich at David’s and taking it with you for picnic on the beach.

No luck finding Potoskey stones on the island.

Such a fun time exploring the island and eating at different restaurants every day. Very relaxing enjoyable trip.

We had the best time staying at this hotel! My boyfriend refuses to stay anywhere else and we love the island! This hotel is great because it is so quaint. Its is really close to the main strip, but just far enough that if you want to go to bed early you will not hear all of the noise. They took great care of us and will be returning soon! We also loved the pool they had! It was very private and enjoyable!

Answer from Kyrsten C
Mackinac Island, Michigan
At this time, due to the ongoing global pandemic, there aren't many events occurring on Mackinac Island, unfortunately. At Inn on Mackinac, we consider our property a safe space and we welcome all members identifying within the LGBTQ+ Community. Several of our staff work with our community's local gay advocacy organization in the Mackinac Straits Region, called Straits Pride; we would be happy to work with your group to connect you with their organization!

We will be arriving by bikes. Is there a secure area to park them at the inn?
Answer from Kyrsten C

Yes, a bike rack is provided on the property where guest bikes may be parked. A lock is suggested for optimum safety.

Rooms are bathrooms are extremely tiny. It's a squeeze for 2 people. No way you could fit 4 people in there.
