Travelers' Choice
The Inn at Stonecliffe enjoys a storied place in Mackinac Island history. Built in 1904 as a family summer escape by industrialist Michael Cudahy, Stonecliffe has enchanted guests for nearly half a century. Situated high on the west bluff, Inn at Stonecliffe lodging comprises a classic Tudor-style mansion that offers 16 bed and breakfast style guest rooms, and the more modern Summer House Suites, with 31 richly appointed suites decorated in a classic summer cottage style with a light Victorian influence. Overnight visitors to Mackinac Island often observe that the best time to enjoy the island is in the early morning or late evening when the last ferry has carried the daily visitors back to the mainland. At The Inn at Stonecliffe, you’ll enjoy that feeling every moment of your stay. Anywhere you turn, tranquility and relaxation await, from the breathtaking bluff-top views of the Straits of Mackinac and Mackinac Bridge to the Inn’s lush, rolling lawns.Special Services and / or Features: • Breakfast Included• Air Conditioning• Onsite Dining and Cocktail Lounge• Weddings and Events• Kitchenettes• Bike Rentals • Cable Television• Outdoor Heated Pool• Private Baths• Telephones• Complimentary Wireless Internet• Non Smoking

We visited for our 26 wedding anniversary and stayed in the summer home. The grounds are beautiful and it’s worth a walk to sunset point. Our room was nice and clean and roomy. We ate at the “food truck” which is their current take out. It was decent. The bartender was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was served by the staff in to go boxes- oatmeal, eggs, sausage, cereals and pastries. The only disappointment was we arranged for a taxi with the front desk to make the 9:00 ferry and asked for a departure at 8:15. We were told leaving at 8:30 would be enough time. It wasn’t!!! We missed it by 5 minutes. Plan for a 40 minute taxi or shuttle ride to get to and from town to the inn.

Happy Anniversary! Thank you for staying with us! We are sorry you missed your ferry but encourage you to take up any taxi/shuttle issues with the Mackinac Island Carriage Tours as they own and operate all of the taxis and shuttles on the island. We do hope you will visit us again soon!

Grounds are beautiful! The rooms were clean and nicely decorated and the bed was comfortable. There was a wedding there everyday of our stay, so the Inn was pretty busy. That said, they were short staffed. Went down for breakfast and requested extra toilet paper and towels and by later that evening when we got back to our room they still had not been delivered. Instead we got a card under the door saying they couldn’t enter due to Covid and to please call the front desk. We did and the phone rang off the hook 20 times with no answer. My husband had a walk back to the main inn (as we were staying in the summer house) to get the supplies. The taxi service was a disaster! I called hours before and had confirmed service only to be called back 20 minutes prior to our pick up time to say they were full and could not accommodate us. They need to specify on their website that there is a $7.50 charge per person each way for the shuttle/taxi service. The inn is 2 miles out of town and we had brought our bikes, but the hill by the Grand Hotel is impossible to get up. You’ll have to walk your bike up it. If you’re looking for a hotel more convenient to the downtown area where all the action is, I recommend spending a little extra & staying at the Grand Hotel or Mission point where they have their own shuttle service, or at one of the bed-and-breakfasts down on Main Street where everything is in walking distance.

Hi Dawn! Thank you for staying with us! The taxi service is owned and operated by the Mackinac Island Carriage Tours and they do set the rates for all transportation on the island. We do have the fare information on our website under "Contact & Location" but will discuss options to make it more visible. Due to Covid-19 precautions we are not entering guests rooms during their stay and are sorry for the inconvenience this caused. We do hope that those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of everything will enjoy being removed from downtown and the stunning views the inn provides!

The pluses: the setting is gorgeous, with a beautiful view of the water and a secluded spot in the woods. I thought the dinner food was really good, even with the kitchen doing everything to go because of the pandemic. The minuses: Surprised to find our 1 bedroom suite had no windows in the bedroom, which resembled a cave and had poor airflow. The bathroom was tiny - no wonder they don't put a picture of it online. Finally, the price of a bike rental borders on criminal - $75/day. I don't care that everyone else on the island charges that much, it's downright disrespectful to guests, especially since the Stonecliffe is a couple miles from town. Pandemic notes: this is a nice spot because it's away from all the people in town. Mask compliance is poor at the Stonecliffe but to be honest it was poor everywhere on the island and is poor back home too. The Stonecliffe did a nice job with making dinner to go, but the to-go breakfast was frankly bad. The Stonecliffe was hosting weddings while we were there, no masks in sight. Fortunately there's enough room to just stay away from big groups,

Thank you for staying with us! We are so glad you enjoyed the views and food. Our guests are able to bring their own bikes if they do not wish to rent from us or somewhere else on the island. We do require guests to wear masks while indoors and during events if they are not social distancing. Our staff are wearing masks at all times!

We purchased the Ferry Package along with the suite located in the Mansion. Both were good choices. We parked close to the boat and our tickets were waiting for us at the office. We were met by our porter on the island upon arrival. This young man went an extra mile to get us to the mansion as the shuttle was full. Another shuttle was sent and delivered us to our destination. We checked in and our luggage was taken at the boat and was never touched by us until it hit our room. We thought the staff was very organized and easygoing and great to work with. With a shortage of workers due to COVID-19 they really did a fabulous job!! Thanks. We had a terrific time so if your looking for a quite destination this is it!! It does take from 45-60 minutes to travel to town but that’s part of the fun. The Woods Restaurant is next door and the food is wonderful. The mansion does have limited food service and a bar. The restaurant which is normally well attended is closed this season. This is a terrific get away and the staff was and is GREAT!!! We will return. THANKS
