Hotel's Favorite
Another wonderful overnight stay at the Stonecliffe. Aesthetically stunning property. Impeccable, professional, and attentive service from F & B to the reception staff. Beautiful grounds. Great food.
Housekeeping was extremely courteous and our room impeccable when we arrived; 2 welcome cookies upon arrival. They even took care of washing and drying our damp garments one day.
If you can get used to the horse-drawn carriages and bicycle riding for a few days, I strongly recommend visiting this high-end property; at least for 2-3 days.
I will definitely return next season as they are open to from May to November.

When we arrived at dock, we were greeted by the porter who handled our luggage and made sure it was delivered to the Inn while we enjoyed the downtown.
When we were ready to head to the Inn, we took a 40 minute carriage ride from Shepler's Ferry dock which was pleasant since we were seeing a quieter section of the island.
As we entered the grounds, we were impressed with everything from the welcoming chairs on the front lawn, to the landscaping, to the mansion itself.
Once inside, the beauty of all the details was only surpassed by the friendliness of the staff.
Our room was in the summer home. It was well appointed with amenities and an amazing water view. Our luggage was there waiting for us. We loved the added touch of the cookies and robes.
Our room was a corner unit with a large balcony with 2 comfy rocking chairs facing the lake.
We enjoyed dinner and cocktails in The Backyard restaurant while listening to live music in the bar.
After dinner, we continued to enjoy cocktails at one of the many fire pits out on the lawn, and, with the large window/doors open, we could still hear the music.
We also strolled out to the grotto and garden and enjoyed the sunset while looking out on the Mackinac Bridge.
We had an opportunity to rent bikes and stroll the grounds before checking out. Overall, one day at this resort is not enough! It was definitely an enjoyable experience!

Our last visit was before the major renovation by the Pulte Foundation. The information from the property pre visit was very helpful, addressing their complementary carriage every hour at the ferry. Once we made our way to the Inn, as we rounded the corner to the property, our jaws dropped at the beautiful grounds with groupings of chairs and fire pits out front. A new stand alone building labeled the General Store has all your beverage, picnic and snack needs.
The Inn is STUNNING and we were all in awe of the beautiful new furnishings inside. The dining room is lovely, the bar is eclectic and cozy. Walking outdoors to the porch with comfy seating and outdoor dining leading to a new pizza kitchen. The massive grounds have been manicured and planted impeccably with inviting groupings of chairs with views of the bridge. Newly built cottages for families abut the great lawn. We stayed in the summer house which is next door to the main house. The formerly abandoned apple orchard has been restored with care and now shares space with bee hives and laying hens. The transformation is truly a marvel. While we did not dine during our brief one night stay, we cannot wait to come back and stay longer. We didn’t have the chance to visit the wellness building with stream, sauna and massage so that is on the agenda for the next time. This is an exceptional property that the Pulte Foundation has created and is our new favorite on island hotel.

This hotel and property are truly one of a kind and I cannot say enough good things about the staff, the food, the grounds, and the amenities.
First, just two cons if these are deal breakers for you:
1. The property is a 45 minute carriage ride from town, so if you want to be closer to the action without having to bike or take a carriage ride, this place might not be for you.
2. Although 99% of our room was squeaky clean, we found a few unknown hairs in the bathroom. A little more attention to detail on the bathroom would be the only improvement to staff.
Now onto the positives, and this property has so many:
1. The renovations done to this hotel are incredible. Every detail, down to every nook and cranny, is perfectly curated. There are comfy spots on the back porch with quilts, there are cozy bench seats in the bar and hallway, there are seating areas all throughout the hotel. Everywhere you look is simply stunning.
2. Our room, #204 in the Summer House, was so perfect. It had two comfy queen beds, a huge seating area with a pullout couch, and an enormous deck overlooking the lake. The deck has a table and four chairs plus two rocking gliders and a table. In our less than 24 hour stay, we spent a couple of hours on this deck.
3. The hotel grounds are nothing short of exquisite. The property has an expansive front lawn with flowers EVERYWHERE and super cute outbuildings, including a general store and a bike rental. The back lawn, which overlooks the water, has fire pits and Adirondack chairs, plus tons of lawn games spread all across this expansive area. The general store provides complimentary s’mores kits for the fire pits. The hotel also has a workout cottage and two pools, one family pool and an adults only pool.
4. The food and service were top notch. We had a drink from the bar and the bartender there was fabulous. We opted to eat from the back patio which has a pizza oven. The brisket/gouda pizza is a must try! Our server, Max, was fabulous. In fact, every single employee we encountered was so genuinely kind. We also enjoyed talking with the front desk staff as well as George in the general store.
This hotel not only far exceeded our expectations, but is like no other hotel we’ve ever stayed in, including several Ritz Carlton properties. This hotel is a splurge but you will not regret it.

The Inn at Stonecliffe was the perfect combination of historic charm and modern simplicity. It was something like out of a fairytale. Our experience went above and beyond our expectations. All of the staff were extremely courteous and attentive to our needs. The grounds were absolutely pristine and the ambience on the patio while eating gave Bridgerton vibes.
( including the music). The owners and staff thought of everything… from bicycles to go into town, adult and kid friendly pools, and evening fire pits….just to name a few. Lastly, the view from Sunset rock was spectacular. The Inn was the perfect getaway. We would love to go back and do it all again.

Our stay at the Inn at Stonecliffe was thoroughly enjoyable. The hotel has truly succeeded in creating a luxurious and upscale retreat. The grounds are lovely, and the rooms are both luxurious and tastefully designed. The well-stocked bar adds to the appeal, making it a place where you never want to leave. With two pools, a well-equipped gym, and a wellness center offering various activities and events, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Brandon at the front desk was superb, professional, and amazing. From assisting us with our carriage ride to ensuring everything was perfect with our stay, he went above and beyond. Steve and Alex are top-notch; their mannerisms and attentiveness to both customers and staff are impeccable. Samantha was our server in the Straits dining room for dinner, and the food quality was outstanding. We sampled various menu items and were truly impressed with everything we tried, along with the extensive wine list. We also sampled the pizza at the Backyard restaurant and absolutely loved it. The ambiance at the Horsey Pub was enjoyable as well.
The grounds of the Inn at Stonecliffe are stunning, and our room was absolutely amazing. Every detail was taken into account, from the plush towels to the Nescafé coffee maker. Our room had the most beautiful view. The designer had the best vision for this hotel; it has a luxurious feel while remaining warm and inviting. The staff is remarkably friendly, making our stay nothing short of magical. The inn's recent renovation has transformed it into a true gem, providing us with the perfect retreat after a day of exploring the island's natural beauty and rich history.

Ask about bathroom setup before booking, using a bar sink with no mirror and poor lighting is a joke. Toilet shower area was so small one could not close the door while sitting down. Request “not first floor” no privacy from foot traffic. Did have a nice gym and steam shower.

It sounds like you encountered some frustrating bathroom setup issues. That lack of mirror and poor lighting can definitely impact the experience. And having such a cramped toilet/shower area is a major inconvenience. It’s also understandable to want more privacy from foot traffic on the first floor. These are items we will most definitely be addressing in the off season so we can eliminate these issues in the future. At least the gym and steam shower were nice amenities! We hope that we can rectify your concerns and welcome you back soon.

Approaching The Inn on a horse drawn carriage and being met by butlers outside set the tone for the entire weekend. We were treated like VIPs. Chef Joseph Nardo makes amazing gourmet meals and each meal was a masterpiece. His experience working at Michelin rated restaurants has made The Inn at Stonecliffe a destination for anyone who appreciates fine food. We looked forward to the flavours of every meal. The view overlooking the Straits of Mackinac and the Mackinac Bridge was breathtaking. The extensive renovations of the grounds and gardens were beautiful. The renovations of The Inn and dining room were very inviting. Our guest room was very comfortable and included a small sitting room with a television. The bedroom included two very comfortable queen beds and a television. There was complimentary bottled water, coffee, tea, and even a delicious Liberty Cookie Company cookie made in Hesel, MI. The pizza bistro had amazing garlic bites with zucchini wrapped inside, they very delicious. The friendly staff made us feel like we were very important, and were attentive throughout the stay. I highly recommend staying at the Inn at Stonecliffe. Our family will never forget the many wonderful memories we made.

This is such a beautiful setting. We enjoyed the included carriage ride after the ferry and the property is absolutely beautiful, and the rooms are well appointed. There were such nice touches such as a s’mores cat big cookies waiting for us and an upgraded room with view of the bridge. The only significant disappointment was the restaurant. Breakfast was terrible and there were no healthy choices a place like this that caters to bridal groups and people who enjoy hiking should have more healthy options. The only milk was whole milk and there were no vegan alternatives. Dinner was also poor with the mushroom dish being full of cream and lacking flavor. They were significantly understaffed as well and it took a long time to get service, but maybe this was because it was an unexpectedly gorgeous weekend and they were not expecting so many people? However, other than the restaurant the place was an absolute delight and I’m only sorry that I didn’t book a longer stay!

It sounds like you had a wonderful time overall! The setting and amenities, like the carriage ride and s’mores cookies, really seem to enhance the experience. It’s a shame about the restaurant, though—having limited healthy options can be a letdown, especially when there are so many guests looking for nutritious choices. This is something we are currently working on and hope to improve on that front. Your feedback about the food could really help us cater better to guests in the future. It’s great to hear you enjoyed everything else so much, though! We look forward to welcoming you back next season!

I just had the most amazing stay at Stonecliffe. This place is unlike any other on the island. The property just underwent a huge renovation and is brand new. The level of luxury and service is unmatched and the exclusivity of staying toward the top of the island away from the crowded downtown area gives it an entirely different experience. The property is spacious and beautiful with unbelievable views. The service is impeccable and the decor around the property is spot on. So many Instagram worthy spots around the property. The location is better than any other hotel on the island and the experience is well worth the price. I would highly recommend to anyone traveling to Mackinac this is the place to stay!
