Great hotel very historic and great location. Stunning views! Rooms aren’t big but we were hardly in it. Needs a stress free vacation and this was awesome! I’m sure they will fix the jacuzzi. The 1852 restaurant in the hotel is absolutely a must!

This hotel is right in line with a high end boutique hotel yet retaining the charm for which it is known. The check-in was flawless and welcoming. The room was beautiful, well-appointed and spotlessly clean. The bedding was so comfortable and the shower actually had pressure! There was a refrigerator, coffee maker, ample towels and Beekman 1802 toiletries. The view from our room was beautiful. On the grounds in the evening were two chimera fire pits for people to gather around and the porches with rocking chairs was a great place to relax and enjoy the view of the water and marina. There are bicycle rentals immediately in front of the property. The hotel is an easy stroll to the busy downtown yet situated on the quieter end of Main Street. After staying many places on the Island, we would like to stay here again and will make a point to do so.

The hotel was fabulous. It was conveniently located. The bike rental is right in front of the hotel which was very helpful. The staff was very helpful, kind, patient and efficient. The restaurant was delicious…especially the desserts.

There is no dispute that the hotel is beautiful. Nicely decorated common areas, lots of great seating on the porches and lawn, the hotel is perfectly located, and our room is large and airy. The check in clerk was courteous and efficient. Many hours were spent yesterday enjoying the lovely late September weather from the porch rockers and later in the Adirondack chairs on the lawn facing the harbor, people watching and tuning to the rhythm of horse hooves. It was spectacular. There are aspects of the hotel that somewhat mar the experience. For $675 a night, I would have expected more amenities in the room. They are small things, but most travelers will understand that small things make a huge difference. The room available to us has 2 queen beds in it. Presumably few stay here alone. There are no nightstands or small tables except the one in between the beds, meaning anyone sleeping on the outside has no where to put a book or glasses, or anything else. There is plenty of room for them, so really no reason not to have put them in. The mattresses are not terribly comfortable, and all 8 pillows in the room are like bricks. (I had neck surgery, and ended up sleeping with a folded bath towel under my head) The split bathroom is awkward. The sink is outside the toilet/shower room, meaning any late night visit requires washing your hands outside of an enclosed room, and unless you have night vision, also requires turning on the light, most likely disturbing whomever else sleeps in your room. Additionally, there is no area for the soap to be placed except on the counter, and there is no place to hang a hand towel. There is no soundproofing in the rooms at all. There is street/harbor noise, but we expected that. What we didn’t really expect is that you will be acutely aware of every time anyone in this wing of the building showers, flushes a toilet, or walks down the stairs. Anyone speaking, even in soft tones in the hallway, honestly sound as if they are in your room. It’s fine during the day, but a bit much at 6 a.m. There is only one luggage rack, so if you have more than one suitcase, it ends up on a chair and not in the closet area. Few people will unpack everything for a 3 day stay, so an additional rack or a small bench would really be nice. Apparently if you want your room serviced, you have to call the hotel by 10 a.m. or your room won’t be cleaned. If you want your garbage removed, you are to bag it up and leave it outside your room. We travel a lot, and this is a first for us, even in far less expensive hotels. And if you choose to have a beverage outside while enjoying the porch or lawn, I’d recommend going elsewhere to get it. Being a chilly evening, we thought a Bailey’s coffee would be great. What my husband was given was 2 half full mugs of tepid coffee with a tiny splash of Bailey’s, barely perceptible. He waited for the traditional whipped cream, but the bartender said they were “out.” $36 is mighty steep for 2 cups of tepid coffee.

Reserved a Traditional Queen and was disappointed how small the room was. Settled on a Traditional King which had a little more space to actually store luggage. Hotel is very clean. Great staff. Had breakfast and one dinner in the 1852 Grill.. all meals were exceptional.

I stayed at the Island House Hotel only one night before transferring to the Grand Hotel and it was lovely. If I'm ever that way again I will definitely choose them again. I enjoyed the close proximity to everything and the fact that you're paying for what you choose, not having everything included in costs whether you use it or not.

The Island House Hotel checks all the boxes - perfect location, excellent service, charming accommodations. Our room was a bit small, but there are many areas on the property to relax and enjoy the view (our favorite was the porch). IH is a great choice for a visit to Mackinac Island!

We have been going to Mackinac Island for about 25 years and have always stayed at the Island House. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. The 1852 Grill Room and Ice House food is excellent. It has always been a relaxing stay.

We really loved our stay at the Island House Hotel...it's a true gem! Our room with a view and all of the hotel staff members we encountered were exceptional, and the personal touches extended to recognize our 20th anniversary stay truly made it special! The card, welcome tray in our room, anniversary wishes on the TV at reception and the anniversary wishes we received from the host in the 1852 Grill Room were so appreciated!! Andrew, the dock porter really went above the call of duty to make sure our missing bag was retrieved right away (we had a lot of luggage, so we totally understood how that could happen), and even assisted us with our bags at checkout. He was awesome! The location and views from the hotel are among the best on the island and can't be beat! The only issues during our stay were the lackluster service we received for our celebratory dinner in the 1852 Grill Room (which in no way reflects on our high opinion of the hotel) and the loud, obnoxious drunks congregating on the front lawn and by the chimineas until midnight - 2am, long after the "quiet time" hours posted by the hotel on multiple nights of our stay. In spite of those two things, we will defintely choose the Island House Hotel for our future visits to Mackinac Island!

We stayed for our elopement in early September on the Fall Getaway package. Beautiful anesthetics, comfy room, lovely evening chimineas, great food, friendly and efficient staff, cozy blanket to keep, and pumpkin fudge. We couldn't ask for a better vacation. The staff especially were wonderful, even dealing with a last minute snafu with kindness! We'll definitely be returning!
