Detailed Reviews
We just had our wedding on June 5 2021 at Fountain Point and it was our dream come true. From the very start we wanted a location where we could have everyone stay on the same property on a lake. This venue blew our expectations out of the water. We kind of fell into Fountain Point because of Covid - our original venue couldn't accommodate us with the restrictions so weeks before our wedding we moved to Fountain Point and we are SO thrilled that we did. The setting is absolutely stunning. It feels like a magical land tucked away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, where there is an open field of greenery, a gorgeous fountain and a view and access to stunning Lake Leelanau. Everyone stayed in cabins on the property and there was something for everyone to do: kayaking, swimming, lawn games, bikes, relaxing on the porch. It's impossible to have a bad time there. The food truck on site for breakfast is also beyond delicious and a fun gathering spot for everyone. There is a stunning maple tree in the middle of the property where we had our Friday night welcome party and it was simply magical. For Saturday we were able to bring in our own tent and create the wedding of our dreams. The ceremony spot on the lake felt like heaven. It was absolutely perfect and will hold a special place in our hearts forever. I cannot wait to go back. Thank you to the entire team for making it a dream for us.
Also, there is no wifi and the cabins are rustic but in the best way possible. Charming and intimate it is the perfect getaway for a lakeside week or weekend to unplug away from it all.

A gem of a resort. Very laidback and peaceful, extremely friendly staff. This historic hotel is surrounded by small cottages and beautifully situated on Lake leelanau. The resort is a historic landmark so expect the basics. So different from any ordinary modern hotel. Bathrooms are in a separate area on the floor and there is no AC or TV in the room. No breakfast or a restaurant but free coffee and a game-room, beech and a beautiful porch overlooking the lake.

My wife and I arranged a week-long rowing camp at the Lake Leelanau rowing club, which is connected to the fountain point resort. We loved our time at the rowing club and at the resort. Every morning we'd row, and get great exercise. The resort has many water sport options. Then, we'd grab a pizza at the food truck that was invited to the grounds. Then we'd head to the nearby Lake Michigan beaches to relax. The resort itself has a classic look. The main hotel itself is historic and captures an old-world feel with a beautiful veranda and grand interior.

The Fountain Point Resort was once a bustling place. I have stayed here 3 times. It is sad to see it's decline. The staff us still good, the location good, things are clean...it is just that there are no extras.
Back in the day, they had live music throughout the season and some form of breakfast....now they have nothing. Coffee via Keurig only.
They do have paddle boards etc for you to use, which is great but I hate to see the property just "sit there" They have all the equipment to serve breakfast but don't. Even the museum in site is closed up.

In the heart of gorgeous NW lower Michigan Fountain Point Resort has both cottages and an old inn (circa 1890's) for accommodation. We stayed in the Inn during the Leelanau Peninsula Birding Festival and loved the atmosphere. The weather was not fine during the weekend (rainy and cool) but when we returned from outside there were several rooms with a warm fire going in the fireplace and comfortable places to sit and read and work on our computer (wifi available but seemed a bit slow).
Staff were excellent and very helpful for anything we asked about. The only negatives may be due to the time of year (start of the season up north). The morning breakfast was a bit sparse and my wife ate later than I did and said they had run out of milk. Hopefully that will not be a problem over the summer. As this is an old in the rooms had two available shared bathrooms down the hall that were clean and modern. Bathrobes were provided for the down the hall ventures. It was cool and we needed heat in the room (probably not necessary most of the summer season) and had to turn on the old electric heater which was a bit difficult to read the temperature gauge but worked well.
We both loved staying here regardless of the minor issues and are planning to return next year with hopes of sunny warm weather so we can enjoy the beach, kayaks and bicycles at the inn. One more thing, this inn is only about a half mile out of the village of Lake Leelanau with an excellent bakery and wine tasting store. Only about ten minutes to the west is Leeland and to the east Sutton's Bay with more shops and restaurants for those inclined. For me the location was best as the inn is near the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore with miles of trails and the best beaches and views in the Great Lakes.

Wholesome, relaxing, fairly quiet, clean, has a good support staff. If you're into TV and electronic games, this is not your kind of place. If silence disturbs you, you might be unnerved. But if you like the outdoors, relaxing chairs and good books to read, this is just fine. Terrific beach, too.

I feel so compelled to write this review and not in the positive way one would hope when celebrating a wedding. The location was gorgeous, and the overall feel of the place was rustic and comfortable. Kathy and another young woman whose name started with an M, and another gentleman named Joe, I think, were very kind and helpful.
Sadly, that is the only positive thing I can say about this venue.
The rooms weren't nice or clean enough for the price we paid, nor was there maid service. But the most shocking part about the place was the service!!! Angie- the manager, was not only INCREDIBLY unapproachable, she was unbelievably unprofessional. Whilst staying in the hotel, we actually heard her complaining to another member of staff saying, "If I hadn't gone out on the boat today I would have lost it with 'these people'"
These people, meaning us, the paying guests!! In what universe should a guest overhear the manager, the superior and the leader, speak about the paying guests in this manner? Every time she was approached with a question or for help, she gave a defensive and truly rude explanation in return. If a bridesmaid comes to ask for a fan, rather than say, "I asked her earlier and she didn't want one... but, if she changed her mind, I guess I'll go get one." just say 'Ok" and grab a fan. You're there to provide a service, which, we people, are paying for!
It was awful, and bewildering. I felt as if Angie sincerely didn't enjoy working with people and that we were a burden to her. The bride and groom spent a pretty penny for that location and seeing, with my own eyes, how unfriendly and rude they were to her, the bride, was simply sad.
I wouldn't recommend this venue if it was the last one in Northern Michigan. People traveled from all over the world for this wedding. To feel like you're a burden and to hear the manager speaking poorly about you, the guest, is absolutely, unequivocally disgusting. I can't believe it. What a shame. Luckily we had each other and still enjoyed ourselves.

This is my first review on TripAdvisor ever! I am not one to complain unless I feel it's extremely necessary.
First let me start with the good, the place is absolutely gorgeous and has all kinds of amenities and games for the guests to enjoy. The cabins are quaint and comfortable.
That being said, the management and owner are the most unprofessional people I've ever had to encounter as a PAYING guest. My friend had her wedding here this past weekend, and instead of raving about how beautiful the place is I left that place with an AWFUL taste in my mouth and absolute disappointment. If there was a way for the manager to make things difficult on my friend and her guests, she did it.
The manager was extremely rude and uncooperative from the get go. My friend came to her with concerns about cobwebs in the cabins and the manger yelled at her and accused her of "looking for problems." She yelled at my friend (THE BRIDE) in front of other guests! There was a complete lack of communication between employees. Most of them were amicable and happy to help but they would tell us one thing and the manager would turn around and tell us another. She handled herself extremely unprofessionally.
Also, we had unseasonably warm weather this past weekend and the cabins don't have air conditioning. The resort has fans that the guests can request to be brought to their cottages. The day of the wedding was 91 degrees and the manager threw a fit over having to get the fans out because they had been put away for the winter already. I am in the service industry and I cannot believe the way this woman spoke to myself and many others. I cannot believe she still has a job!
When we contacted the owner to resolve the issues he came around and spoke to some guests but never apologized for the manager's behavior. He instead came into one of the cabins-where everyone had moved inside because they have an ordinance that the DJ had to stop at 10pm- and proceeded to YELL and PITCH A FIT (not exaggerating) that we were being disrespectful because of the music level. Not ONCE did he address us before that in a civil manner about the music. NOR did he approach the bride and groom to ask them to accommodate the ordinance. He just burst in (didn't knock) and starting yelling like a crazy neighbor. Had he addressed us in a professional manner we would have turned it down and accommodated his requests. Instead we were all sent to bed at 12:30 like children at a summer camp.
All in all, the bride and groom paid LOTS of money to rent the place for the weekend and seeing the bride sob MULTIPLE times over the treatment we all received was devastating. That is NOT how your wedding weekend should go. I will NEVER recommend this place

We stayed here for two nights with our two young children. We had a great time and will definitely be back. It is spartan, at best, but that was expected given the price. We stayed in the main house. We ended up switching rooms our second night. If we go back, I will request a room on the 2nd floor with a sink (which is what we had on the second night). The grounds are nice, breakfast is good. It would be a great place to get a few young families together for a weekend.

My wife & I really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We stayed in the main building (hotel) part of the resort. Upon check in we walked into an uncleaned room which was disappointing but the staff quickly cleaned it & profusely apologized. They were very pleasant and nice to interact with. The facilities are certainly old but what do you expect from a 100 year old house? The charm of the house makes up for any creaks or cracks. We stayed one of the rooms that had it's own bathroom which was nice. For the rate we got & the area it was a very nice value. We didn't stick around much during our stay but when we did we thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful porch overlooking the lake. We also enjoyed swimming at the beach in front of the hotel. What a great place for us to spend time together. We would definitely come back & are consindering bringing our family back to stay in one of the cottages.
