Customer service at this location is the worst experience I’ve ever had at any Hilton hotel, ever. Morning coffee is not fresh, no sugar available and they are handing it out piece by piece because “they are running short”. Breakfast is more than 20 minutes late, no Sevice and no decaf. Parking is a mess, no instructions from the hotel how to get out. I visit Kalamazoo routinely and am a Hilton loyalist but won’t be coming back to this location.

Hotel's Favorite
Admittedly a hotel snob, when I searched for a hotel in Kalamazoo, I was initially discouraged by all available options. I settled on the Hilton Garden Inn due to its central downtown location and the fact that it was new with few but stellar online reviews. As I write this review, I am still in my room and haven't even partaken in the free breakfast yet, but even if the food were Meh, I would still give the hotel the highest rating. Bottom line, new hotels are wonderful, especially following Covid; however, I can't remember staying in a cleaner hotel ever. Secondly, with a few small tweeks, any hotelier could turn this hotel into a 5 star property based on what is obviously smart but stylish design. Whoever worked on this hotel design put detailed thought into using the old building's beautiful windows and maximizing room space, and literally everything down to the bed/flanking desk, closet layout and slightly but not too funky design was catering to a broader clientele looking for a "good" hotel in Kalamazoo. Downtown Kalamazoo hasn't rebounded from Covid just yet and very few amenities are available within walking distance during the week. With that said, HGI's fully-stocked mini convenience store/snack area and their bar/restaurant have everything you need and although I didn't eat downstairs, I heard people raving about the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich and other vast options. The staff although green is kind, laid back and welcoming, and the Covid protocols are fully in place and taken seriously. As I am beginning a work project that will bring me back to Kalamazoo regularly over the next year, there is no doubt this will be my "go to" hotel.

I recently stayed here while attending my nephew’s graduation. The hotel is new so everything is updated and clean. Lots of Covid cleaning and precautions in place here. The room was nice, bed was comfy. Fridge, microwave, and coffee maker provided. Big closet, lots of room. Shower had great water pressure. The hotel had a pool which I did not use...was hoping for a hot tub or jacuzzi. I did use the fitness center, which was great. Plenty of cardio equipment, plus free weights and a cable rack. I did have an issue with billing which is still an ongoing struggle and has still not been fully resolved....doubling billing, charging for parking but I did not have a car., etc. That is the reason for only 3 stars.

We recently stayed a night after the WMU graduation. The hotel is an older building that has been completey renovated. Very nice lobby and sitting area along with the hotel bar. Rooms are average in size but well appointed with refridgerator, microwave and coffee maker. Bathroom is good size with ample counterspace and shower with sliding door. The only reason I gave it a 4/5 rating was becuase the AC unit would only go to 66 degrees F which was not cool enough for us. The other issue was that you could not keep the fan running for circulation, so the AC unit would turn on and off as it's suppossed to but the noise would wake us up everytime. I stay in hotels weekly and almost all of them allow you to select the fan to run. My only other issue was during breakfast. There was only one staff member serving food and clearing tables. She was doing her best but she was certainly overwhelmed (especially on a Sunday morning). She did the best she could and was very apologetic, but some customers were becoming aggrivated. I'm not sure why the person working at the front desk didn't offer to help her out as she was not busy. I was extremely happy to see that you are serving hot breakfast food options! One additional thing to mention, parking is across the street in a parking structure at a cost of $20 per night. We will certainly consider booking this property the next time we are in the area.

We came to Kalamazoo to check out the University and we were lucky to find this gorgeous historic hotel. This place will be on the top of our list to stay in again when we bring our son back for his first semester at WMU in the fall. The bar staff, Matt and Amber were fantastic. Alicia at the desk was so sweet and helpful throughout our entire trip. Definitely recommend making this your must-stay hotel when coming to this area.
