Pet friendly, although dogs were not allowed on bed. Clean, cozy, and the beds were amazingly comfortable. The owners are pleasant and friendly. Fridge, tv, and WiFi included. Coffee and tea available in reception. Will definitely stay here again if passing through.
Terrible that folks travelling on the road can't get a decent night sleep because the won't upgrade the 1970s blinds to blackout. Street lights blazed though giving us next to no rest. Sending travelers back out on the road is pathetic. Haven't spent a dime on the place except deceptive curb appeal.
We stayed here a couple of weeks ago for a four day long weekend and were not disappointed. Our two double bed room was clean, simple, and comfortable. It had a microwave as well as a mini-frig which made it great for heating simple meals and keeping things cold. The continental breakfast was more than sufficient- breads, bagels, sweet breads, coffee, cream cheese, etc. Nice homey feeling in the dining area. The sauna was authentic Finnish- nice benches, real rock stove with Lake Superior rocks, and water and ladle to pour on the water for steam. Also a hot tub which we never used but looked nice. On the highway but quiet.. We're going back this weekend.
Bob and Annette host the sweet Classic Motor Inn and keep it straight forward and reasonable. Both being civic minded they both have been Mayor of the city (Annette is currently mayor). They work hard to keep the downtown vibrant and make it easy to grab a nice continental breakfast before you head out to ski. We x-cntry skied ABR and Wolverine and it could not be more convenient to stay at the centrally located Classic. The Sauna is a REAL SAUNA! The temp. ran 160-170 while we used it and that is a perfect end to a good day on the trails.
Eight of us stopped in town during an annual motorcycle trip. We never know where we are going to end up so booking ahead is a bit difficult. I had called a few other places in town but they were booked. I called Classic Motor Inn and found two rooms available for less than $90 a piece including fees. When we arrived the person who helped us (assuming it was an owner) was excellent. The rooms are not fancy by any means but very practical and most importantly CLEAN! That night one of the group members went to the desk asking if they had a vending machine for a diet pop. They did not have it in vending but the same person that checked us in went to the back and offered an unopened diet pop she had instead. Additionally the next morning we came back from a walk to breakfast and found towels sitting by our bikes that we later found out were put out by the same staff because she thought we may want to wipe the heavy dew off our bikes before we took off. Again, above and beyond. I would recommend this place to lay your head to anybody not requiring the really fancy stuff rather looking for clean, comfortable, and friendly!…
We spent President's Weekend 2017 (Thurs thru Sunday) at the Classic Motor Inn in Ironwood, MI. We can't say enough about Bob and Annette's hospitality. We were treated like family. Exceptionally clean room and comfy king-size bed--we slept soundly. We were treated to hot coffee and coffee cake, assortment of breads, cereal and fruit, and lively conversation every morning in the very cozy breakfast room/bar. The sauna and hot tub felt great after a long day of XC Skiing at ABR Trails. We'll be back!
Sure, the décor is a little dated. Who really cares when you just need a place to sleep. The bed was comfortable, the shower worked great as did the AC unit. Plenty of towels and a mini fridge too. I am light-sensitive so the curtains on my second floor room didn't quite make the cut but all in all, a fine place to sleep. The people who run the place are friendly and helpful!
Not sure about the other reviews, but this place was not great. There was a old odor to the room which was probably from all the old furniture in the room. Not much updated. The office was not open before 8 am and there's no phone in the room.
The room was clean and the beds were comfortable but that's about it. The fluorescent light above the vanity flickered had to be tapped on to turn it on. It didn't want to stay on and flickered often. No coffee pot in the room and no kind of breakfast items in the office, not even muffins or rolls. The office person wasn't friendly at check in and didn't answer the phone when we tried calling twwice with a question about internet. My husband had to walk over there to see if anybody was even around. We felt like she was doing us a favor waiting on us. If you want a place to sleep for a nite it's ok, but don't expect any customer service.
Stayed here while XC skiing at ABR. Price is inexpensive and a good value. Room is basic, decent sized, clean, good modern HDTV. Bed was ok, room furniture and decor kind of mismatched, curtains let in a little more light than I would have preferred. Excellent Wood Fired Sauna and Jacuzzi room - the owner even fired everything up for us so it would be ready for us after skiing. Owners are very friendly, told us about all of the local ski trails, and even helped us to find the best pasty (a local Upper Michigan specialty food) in the area! It is really not a 5-Star room, but the owners were so nice and helpful, and the Jacuzzi and Sauna were so nice, that I felt I had to give it 5 stars to boost its ratings above the generic, character-lacking chain hotels.
