Staying at Black River Lodge felt like staying a friend’s house instead of staying at a hotel. We stayed in #24 (snowed in). The room was clean with everything we needed, including a powerful in window AC unit. Brittany and Justin made us feel at home and had lots of great local sightseeing advice. We brought our 2 year old dog with us and there was tons of space on the property for him to run out his energy and sniff around without getting in other guest’s way. There is even a trail to walk down to the river on the property. The location is great with lots of local hiking, waterfalls and beaches only a few miles away with only an hour to the Apostle Islands. Next time we’ll plan a little better and bring groceries to cook dinners ourselves in the well supplied community kitchen/bbq as there is a lack of dog friendly local restaurants (some were completely closed due to lack of staffing). The fire pits were great to stargaze at night with a supply of wood provided for us. We will definitely be back to this wonderful escape!

We thoroughly enjoyed our night in the Gitche-Gami room at BRL. It was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The pictures on the website don't do it justice! Although we've been to Ironwood many times on our way to the Porkies over the past 20 years, we've never stayed there on our journey. We're so happy we changed that. Brittany told us about the harbor and falls just a few miles away, which allowed us to enjoy a sunrise viewing of both. She also had some great suggestions for supper -- places we have heard of or tried. Again, her recommendations were spot on! We're excited to have BRL as an additional lodging option for journeys to the UP twice a year. I'm sure they'll see us again!

We don’t know where to start and there is no way for this recap to capture all of the memories that we made! Our family had such an awesome time staying at your lodge when we went on our family vacation! We truly felt like we made some new friends and so do our boys. It was a sad day when we had to leave. We will be back soon!
After a long day on the slopes, we enjoyed lounging around the fireplace and several couches and sitting rooms, two pool tables and foosball table. The gym was perfect to let our kids run around and play Pickleball and bags while we hung out at the bar.
When vacationing in Ironwood, Michigan it was a great spot to be as we went to ski and snowboard at Snowriver Mountain Resort (Bessemer, Michigan), Big Powderhorn Mountain Resort (Bessemer, Michigan), Whitecap Mountains Ski Resort (Upson, Wisconsin), and Porcupine Mountain Ski Area also known as The Porkies (Ontonagon, Michigan). The location was perfect for us! Words can’t express how thankful we are that we found out about your lodge. What a gem!
Thank you for all of the local restaurant and bar recommendations. We enjoy going out to eat for dinner and checking new places out. About half way into our trip we decided to skip going out to eat because we really just wanted to come back “home” and lounge and relax at the Black River Lodge!
We used our Indy Pass to get into Snowriver and Big Powderhorn for no additional cost. Whitecap gave us a 50 percent discount on lift tickets and at the Porkies if you purchased an adult lift ticket they’d give you a child ticket for no additional cost.
Thanks again for everything!

My family and I recently stayed five nights at the Black River Lodge, the perfect home base for checking out the Ironwood area. Very quickly we felt more like we were welcomed into a family lodge than just staying in a hotel room, or renting a house. The owners were helpful in directing us to good food, and things to check out in the area. The place is super clean and comfortable, and incredibly down to earth. If you need a home away from home, the Black River is exactly that. Thank you, Copper, for letting us stay in your home!

This is a great location if you want to be near the Black River and it's waterfalls. Only 9 miles to Lake Superior, and very close to Copper Peak chairlift/ski jump. We were there in August but can imagine it is absolutely gorgeous around there in the peak of Autumn. The owners were very nice, our room was clean and comfy - we slept great! Plenty of parking, close enough to Ironwood to run in for dinner (we got recommendations from Justin, plus they put a list together if you need one). Owners are very knowledgable about the area .

We found Black River Lodge just a week prior to fleeing to North just after Christmas. The hosts are nothing short of amazing and accommodating in every way. Our trip to the YOOP was perfect thanks to BRL. Our room was cozy and quaint. We were allowed to use the community kitchen for cooking.
Entertainment galore via chatting with other guests and our lovely hosts, plenty of board games, and a puzzle in the common area. The pool towels were clean and folded, the rooms and facilities were exceptionally clean, and the grounds were easily accessible and very pretty.
We will be back again and again. Our weimaraner loved here time with their great dane Copper once she calmed down from the 15 hour ride North. Thank you for the memories this time around and look forward to staying here again.
Plenty of snowmobile riders staying here during our stay. The road was snow and ice packed for the entire route to the trails and everyone I spoke to were quite happy with the short ride to the trail.
Close to all the waterfalls, the lake, and all the necessities but out far enough away from everyone to disconnect. From hostel rooms to multi room family units. This place may not be for those looking for the latest finishes, spa treatments, and trendy drinks, but it was more than perfect for us.

We stayed at Black River Lodge during a family ski vacation. The lodge is close to the ski hills and several area restaurants. We have stayed at the lodge several times previously. The rooms are clean and spacious. There is also a community kitchen which is a great convenience to make breakfast before you hit the ski hills and snacks when you return.
You will have the warmth of a family lodge with the privacy of a hotel. Brittany and Justin provide great local recommendations and are always happy to answer any questions.
They have recently added an area with pickleball and other games. This is a great space for the kids (& adults).
When it is time for refreshments, there is a cozy on site bar for the guests. The Black River Lodge is perfect for families, couples and solo travelers with something for everyone. Brittany and Justin will do everything they can to make your trip memorable which is why we always return.

Clean, comfortable, roomy, homey, friendly and a great location. We were only in the area for 2 days so wanted to make the most of our time. Brittany, our hostess was very helpful giving us plenty of information on the area, and making us feel welcome. We visited 5 waterfalls and the Copper Peak ski flying hill all on the same road as the lodge. Convenient.
We stayed in the Gichi-Gami room. It was a large bright room with a fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, small dining table and chairs and even a small electric fireplace.
The lodge had common areas with games, books and additional coffee/tea bar.
Our room was up a couple flights, but short flights nothing strenuous.
If you are visiting the Ironwood area I would definitely stay at Black River Lodge.

Brittany and Justin do a great job of keeping the place clean and welcoming guests. Brittany was able to supply us with firewood starter which came in handy considering my brother used a two pack up for one fire. We plan to stay there next time!

Very nice pet friendly lodge. We were traveling with our black lab and needed a room that would allow pets. We hit gold with Black River Lodge! They are not far from Ironwood and Bessemer and lots of things to do or see. The room was small per my selection - they have everything from suites to a hostel area - but the bed was very comfortable. If we're ever back in the area than this would be where I would stay.

So glad we were able to help as your pet friendly destination. Also, good to hear the room worked out! Some are surprised by our interior queens, but we try really hard to advertise them appropriately as a small, budget option. Would love to have you try out one of our larger guest rooms next time. I think you'd like one of our single King guestrooms. Thanks again for supporting our small business! See you next time.

Sorry, a little late to the punch on this one.. but the closest restaurant to our lodge is 3 miles south on the Black River Byway. Powderhorn ski resort also has 2 restaurants (seasonal) and is about the same distance. Ironwood or Bessemer restaurants are about 10 minutes. Wakefield or Hurley resturants are about 15-20 minutes. If needed, we can give you our dining guide upon arrival and has all of our tried-and-true favorites listed.
