A great place for families and kids

What we liked: Family friendly. Great location. Nice people. Quiet. Felt safe. Great amenities pool, hot tub, clean restrooms, private showers.
Pay the extra $10 for a premium site, they are paved, level and wide. The other spots are tight and can be a challenge backing in. Especially with the other campers vehicles adjacent to the narrow roads and the permanent mobile homes across from the sites. We had to move our truck fir our neighbor to park. Our other neighbor moved his so we could easily leave.

What we didn’t like:
The nickel and dime pricing, charging for every little thing including charging for visitors, pets, extra children. Having to use a six digit number to get in AND out. Only two devices on WiFi with a 10 digit code that couldn’t be transferred to another devise.

We were happy with our campsite, which was a "premium" site. We would not have wanted to be across the way on the standard side of the park, as it was very congested over there. But then, we have a 40' motorhome, so may be they wouldn't have tried to squeeze us in over there anyway.

I don't think we've ever stayed in a park with so many rules.

No alcohol.

Any visitors you have must be registered, and there is a $3 charge per visitor. They have a gate code, and they'll give you a code for the visitor. They said you can't just share your own code with the visitor, as then your code won't work when you want to enter/exit.

Also, their office is closed on Sundays. So if your visitor is arriving on a Sunday, you must pre-register them before Sunday.

Great location! Impeccably clean campground with beautiful landscaping. The portion we were in had ok size sites (but probably difficult for big rigs), while the other half was very crowded & appeared to be set aside for seasonal campers, for the most part. While walking around, I have to say that it was very disappointing to see a flag on a pole (in a location belonging to the campground), representing a VERY polarizing figure. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But, when representing a business, it’s surprising that one would disrespect & alienate roughly half of their customers. For this reason alone, we will not return to Oak Grove while traveling thru Michigan next spring. There are many other campgrounds that we would love to patronize. But, to each their own…I won’t deny that it’s still a pretty nice campground. Oh, & no employees wore masks, inside or out.

I made a reservation on Monday for the following Saturday and then plans changed. I called a few hours after making my reservation to ask about a refund and was told that since it’s within 10 days there’d be no refund. I asked if they were able to rerent it out for that night would I then get a refund since they’d be getting twice the money for the same site on the same night and was told no. I asked to speak with a manger, who was also unsympathetic, short, and rude who was immediately defensive. When I asked her about getting a refund if they were able to rerent it, she said,” well, we’ve been telling people that we are full.” They are obviously in high demand right now and instead of taking the lazy way out, they could have very easily expended a little more effort to be nice and reasonable with a customer, well now ex-customer. I have never encountered a staff before that was so readily available and willing to be unhelpful. No response necessary, you’ll never get anymore of my money and I’m going to tell every camper that I know of this experience.

Response from Rod Vandenberg, General Manager at Oak Grove Resort Campground

Hey Jake, Thanks for booking your stay with us. After looking at your reservation it looks like our staff followed the correct protocol with this reservation. When booking a site in person, by phone or online we make sure that each guest is aware of our cancellation polices before they book. When we run your credit card to book your reservation we as a company incur transaction fees for running your card and that is why we charge a cancellation fee. Per our notes the staff did offer to try and refill your site so that you could get some of your money back, but you stated that you would just come and stay instead. We are sorry that your soft ball tournament was canceled. God bless and have a great day! Rod

Amazing, clean campground! Nice pool, hot tub. Laundry facilities are wonderful. Play ground. We stayed in the deluxe cabin. Loved it. Came fully equipped with pots, pans, utensils, dishes, glasses, coffee pot, microwave, toaster, stove, standard fridge, hand soap, dish soap, toilet paper, paper towel.
Bring your own linens. Fire pit out front.
Great staff!!

We have a 41’ fifth wheel. He a very hard time managing the parking lot and campsite. With the campers crammed in it was hard to back in and my husband is an excellent driver. Site is on the main road. Very noisy. Truck has to be parked on the grass next to the RV. Site is $70.00 night plus a $20.00 fee to book a “locked site”. We didn’t know there was a pet fee. We received a call from the office to pay a pet fee for our 2 toy poodles. $3.00/day per dog. $26.00 extra. $8.00 booking fee on top of that. We’re next to the office and the WiFi is very weak. We won’t be back. Too noisy, too crowded and too expensive. If you love kids it’s full of kids.

I was SO glad we had only planned to camp here one night. We are seasoned campers, and this is BY FAR the WORST place ever. It would have been more relaxing in our own backyard. Campers are packed in here so close, we couldn't even open our awning. The firepit was unusable because it was so close to the site next to us. It would have caught our "neighbor's" truck on fire. Cars and trucks were parked along the roadway making it nearly impossible to back in to the site. After getting hooked up to water/electric/sewer, we just sat in the camper and counted down the hours before we planned to leave in the morning. As a "resort," they might offer things to keep the kids entertained, but if you enjoy camping in the outdoors, this is NOT the place. I hope the photos paint a better picture of what you can expect.

Hey Sandy, Thanks for staying with us. I wish you would have come to the office so we could have made your stay better by finding you a site that was better suited for your family or we could have moved the fire pit for you. 4th of July weekends are crazy around here and parking can get a bit tight. We try our best with what we have. Hope you have great travels this summer. God Bless! Oak Grove Resort

Very nice RV resort!! Very clean and landscaped. Some sites are not easy to pull in BUT if you are a season RV'R you will manage it with no problem. A lot of shade and the bathrooms are spotless!! Pool was just right and included a sauna and hot tub to ease your tired bones 😁. Very close to downtown Holland, shopping and restaurants. Staff is very attentive and will answer all your questions... A great quiet, clean place to come...i DO recommend this RV resort😊✔️ 🏆

Stayed in Oak Grove Resort for our second consecutive year. We had an RV spot, and friends stayed in cabins nearby. Really enjoyed the goats, and they have a nice playground and dog play area. My kids (who are mixed-race) were playing on the playground, and a group of kids from at least three different unrelated families told them to "go back to China" and stuck up their ring fingers at my children and told them "that's the Chinese middle finger." This was completely unprovoked, and ruined our weekend and Mother's Day. We will not be returning to Oak Grove Resort again.

Hi jayhana, Thanks for your interest in Oak Grove Resort. So we have 2 different kinds of cabin here at OGR. We have Rustic Cabins that do not have bathrooms but are close to the resort restrooms or we have Modern Cabins that have restrooms in the cabin. Hope this helps. We would love to see you out. Have a great day! Rod
