My company recently stayed at The Grand River for a business event with a large group of about 60 people. During our stay, we utilized the ballroom for meeting and banquet space. Overall, we were very pleased. The hotel staff was incredibly friendly, and they graciously accommodated all of our requests, even those that were very last minute. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner catered during our stay, and the food was very good, especially for the price. (We've hosted similar events in other hotels where we paid double the price for catering and received food that was not half as good.) The rooms were clean and updated. The staff was wonderful about making any and all room change requests. We would absolutely stay here again for any business needs.

Just returned home from visiting GR. Was unable to book a room downtown. HOWEVER glad I couldn't. My group and I were pleasantly surprised at the Grand River. Everyone was so pleasant, they gave great restaurant recommendations, and provided free shuttle service from hotel to anywhere in town and even gave return rides. Will definitely be staying again!

Checked in for a wedding that was walking distance and immediately saw lots of human hair, a dirty footprint, and large dust bunny in the corner of the bathroom. Got a second room that had food crumbs on the entry floor and counter. Front desk staff reluctantly sent someone to clean the food crumbs (after insisting both room were clean), and we changed quickly for the wedding and left. When we came back to go to bed, we pulled the sheet back to reveal three large brown smears on the flat and fitted sheets. Desk staff provided us with clean bedding so we could make a fresh bed for ourselves. The room is also generally beat up — huge scratches on the dresser and a bent toilet paper holder that can’t hold the roll. Hallways were also very loud until at least midnight. This is the dirtiest room I’ve ever stayed in. I can’t believe it was $159 for a night.

First of all we actually really enjoyed our stay here. The free shuttle was great and the driver was really friendly. The common area outside was really nice, it included multiply seating areas overlooking the river, bean bag toss and a large scale chess game. The indoor door pool and hot tub were great as well. The problems with our stay was the hotel room itself, the AC unit as super loud, something was loose and it sounded awful. The toilet didn’t flush properly but the maintenance person came right away to fix it. There was some mold in the bathroom as there was no exhaust fan, we complained twice to the front desk that our coffee maker was missing a part and it took until our second night to get it replaced. The breakfast was ok for the money but nothing special. It’s an old hotel that’s had a facelift. As long as this hotel continues the free shuttle service I would still recommend staying here as it is $100+ cheaper than staying right down town.

Just finished a weekend stay here and had a great time enjoying the pool and outside patio facing the river. Unfortunately, the rest of the hotel leaves a lot to be desired. The rooms themselves and other areas of the interior felt half-renovated and could have been cleaner (especially the top layer of bedding and bathroom). Another point of frustration were the elevators (which moved at a snail’s pace). The location itself was convenient for freeway access and made getting around Grand Rapids easy without being directly downtown. Overall, we enjoyed the stay but for the money you can likely find a cleaner and better renovated/more modern hotel in the area.
