We have stayed here numerous times over the past 15 years and love it more and more each time. The owner Jeanette keeps it clean and welcoming, the cabins are homey and the location is perfect! A gem!

I've stayed at Hilltop several times, usually in a cabin. However, this time I stayed in Room 14. I stayed right after opening from Covid. There is no breakfast. But Jeannette is working on a plan of maybe delivering something. Check in is contactless. There will be paperwork for you in the office, and in that paperwork is your access key for your room. All the rooms have smart locks with codes. There is plastic between you and her at the front desk for the few hours they are in there. There is NO early check in. Jeannette usually allowed this but not now due to needing the time for more cleaning. They will ask you to take all your own trash out to the dumpster. They will provide you a laundry bag and ask you to put your linens, towels, and other things needing washed in there prior to leaving. Do not leave your soaps and shampoos when leaving. Take them. We still had a great time. And the place smelled and felt very clean when checking in. Room 14 had an amazing view and I will book it again if I'm not in a cabin.

This was a brilliant stop for a couple from the UK. The room was spacious and had a great kitchen. The location was close enough to grand marais to get in quickly. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.

My wife and I spent 2 nights in the quiet Lake Superior town of Grand Marais. Hilltop cabins are a quaint family run cabin and motel facility. They advertise a continental breakfast, I would say this barely qualifies as a breakfast. Saturday morning there were 5 muffins, coffee, a single loaf of bread, instand oatmeal packets and some apples that were dusty. Sunday morning, there were no bakes goods, a few remaining oatmeal packets, the same dusty apples, bread and some cereal. If you come, plan to bring your own food, or go into town to get breakfast. I would stay here again, but I would bring my own food for breakfast.

This was our second trip to this wonderful place. Owner is very pleasant and accommodating. Room is perfect for a couples retreat. We stayed in room #10, aka the owl room. Truly a hidden gem in the north. Will definitely be back again.
