The Bavarian Inn Lodge garners compliments for its friendly staff and its prime location, with guests appreciating the easy access to local attractions. The hotel's Bavarian charm and cozy feel offset the criticism regarding its outdated rooms and decor.
While many travelers find the hotel clean and enjoy the range of amenities, including pools and arcades, some reviewers caution about the noise disruptions and the cost, which can accumulate due to additional fees. Despite this, the overall experience is often deemed charming by guests who value the unique atmosphere.

Spent 3 days here in mid-November. Everyone very friendly and the place was very clean. This is definitely a family venue. Lots to do for the younger children. Location was excellent, near many shops and restaurants. Beds comfortable, but bathroom (toilet/tub area) was extremely tight. Coffee pots were removed from the rooms, so you couldn't have coffee early morning before you left the room unless you wanted to walk down to the lobby and get coffee in the small gift shop, which didn't open most days until 8 a.m. and was a long way from our room. Didn't understand this. We recently stayed in Brown County, Indiana, and although they did remove the coffee pots, you could request one to be brought to your room to use during your stay, which we did. They did not enter your room during your stay, which we appreciated as we wiped down/sprayed items when we entered and returned each day. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and interaction with all the employees.

Dear Todd C: Thank you for your recent stay at Bavarian Inn Lodge! We appreciate your feedback. I am sorry that our bathroom configuration was not what you expected. The owner intentionally placed the vanity outside of the tub & toilet enclosure to make it more functional for using the vanity without steam and offering more privacy to bathers simultaneously. It is under Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association as well as CDC guidelines to NOT offer in room coffee service to eliminate any risk of cross contamination from one guest to another. All coffee, mugs, condiments would have to be removed every day (even if not used). I can only surmise that Indiana has more liberal mandates. Thank you for your kind words on our Staff. We do hope to serve you again soon with full coffee service once again. Sincerely, Jim Engel, C.O.O. Bavarian Inn Lodge

We decided to stay at the Bavarian Inn Lodge for our wedding anniversary with the whole family. We have stayed here before but during the summer months. It was a little chilly this weekend and we were pleasantly surprised how much there is to do inside the hotel. We first checked in and noticed how large the room was. Our room had a balcony that overlooked the river and looked so pretty with all the trees and fall colors. The beds were super comfy. I liked reading the story about the family our room was named after and read through the book regarding all of the rooms history. We played at the arcade for a few hours before we ate dinner at Omas Restaurant located inside the hotel. The food was really good and there is a lot of options from pizza to chicken. They have nightly entertainment also. Later we went swimming, with covid you need to reserve a time to swim and could only go for 50 minutes at a time but it was nice that there weren’t many people in there with us. We were able to walk right onto the water slides. There is a large indoor mini golf that I can’t wait to try next year when my youngest is a bit older. They have a few indoor stores and enough to keep you busy for the night. We picked up a midnight snack at the Ratskeller Cafe which was located in the arcade, the kids wanted cookies and we all split the cheesesteak which was so delicious! The next day we drove just down the road and went shopping, is it walking distance but since we were checking out we decided to drive. The employees at the hotel were so nice and acknowledged my family whenever we were in the hall during our stay. You feel like family here! I felt comfortable traveling here during covid, especially with all the sanitizing stations located in the hotel. The room was also very clean. I can’t wait to return and would love to visit during Christmas time!

Dear Allison, We soooooo very much appreciate your recognizing our Staff for their friendliness and their adherence to COVID protocols all at the same time. It is a bit more stressful to work in a hotel with travelers from near and far for our team members. We work hard to create protocols that make them and YOU feel comfortable and safe. We appreciate hearing about the particular restaurants and fun center amenities that you enjoyed the most on this site. We appreciate you sharing with the public. Thank you for the affirmation of a return visit in the next beautiful season coming up. We hope to serve your young, growing family for YEARS to come! My family of 12 visited Frankenmuth and stayed at the Bavarian Inn this past weekend. Even with the restrictions of covid we had an amazing time. The Bavarian Inn was very clean. We had 3 rooms next to each other and all were great! The Inns restaurants, pools, water slides, arcades and lounges all did an amazing job of distancing and cleaning. The kids age ranged from 7 to 22 and they all had a blast. I highly recommend this hotel and town.

Dear JennB: Thank you for your kind review and feedback on this site! We are thrilled that you were able to escape from the frustrations of the pandemic, yet comply to all mandates at the same time. Unfortunately more of these amenities are closed for the next several weeks. We do at least still have 3 pools and 2 hot tubs (still water) that can be used. We hope to serve your growing family for years to come! Yours in Service, Jim Engel, C.O.O. Bavarian Inn Lodge

We come here twice a year since we discovered it in 2018. It's perfect for younger kids. This is our first visit since covid 19.
First, the inn does almost everything they can to keep their patrons safe in a pandemic world. Staff were always cleaning surfaces and wearing masks and very accommodating and kind. There were signs about social distancing and sanitizer stations all over. There was reserved swim times and the hot tubs had sections per family.
However, we came on a Friday and Saturday and it was packed! Many guests were not respecting the pandemic rules. I only saw maybe 3 people not wearing any masks but many with out them over their noses. I saw employees ask guests to place the masks on correctly. I will stress that really the inn did their job (out side of maybe allowing too many people staying but they have a business so I do understand) It was the guests that did not do their part.
We still had a great time!!!! I am writing this review because I know there are mothers out there like me on the fence about traveling. I would suggest to anyone wanting to travel but are worried about covid19 exposure to go during the week which will be a much less busier time. If it wasn't for the large amount of people and the small chunk of rule breakers I would have felt 100% safe!!! We WILL come back but not on a weekend. (Unless we are vaccinated)
We ordered carryout/delivery to our room. Figured out the slower times (early morning) played golf, shopped, did the arcade. I love this place. I can't wait till we are able to come back.

Dear Katie M. - - I GREATLY APPRECIATE your recognizing our Staff for their hourly and daily efforts of combatting COVID19 and keeping each other and our guests safe. I DO AGREE with your recommendations. It is very difficult to mange the GAP between what the public WANTS when traveling in a pandemic and what we CAN DO under mandates and safety regulations. We recognize if we don't protect our Staff, they will simply stop working. We are like a family here and WILL protect them. Guests who do not want to follow mandates and refuse to wear masks are evicted. Guests who drop their mask below their nose are asked repeatedly to place their masks back over their nose. I have no problem taking the complaints from guests feeling harassed about mask wearing. We use the words "non-negotiable" with these guests. Like you stated 95%+ are great and we realize we just have to work hard to protect each other from that 4% or so folks. Thank you for your insights and we look forward to serving you down the road without mandates again and focus more on FUN! Yours in Service, Jim Engel, C.O.O. Bavarian Inn Lodge

What a friendly place!! Every person on the hotel staff we encountered was very friendly and willing to take time to chat.
Our room (Tower 2nd floor) was very comfortable and spotless and my wife found the handicapped accommodations as advertised and very good once we adapted them to her needs. Kids running the halls at midnight eased considerably after a word with the front desk
Coffee and scones from Martha's gift shop were an every morning treat for us which we enjoyed in the atrium adjoining the adult pool. Oma's and the Lorelei lounge provided good beverage after a busy day.

By asking for a handicapped room for two members of my family, I was in shock there was no bars in the shower. There was if we were taking a bath, but nothing higher up the wall for my elderly mother or sister, who both have walking issues, to hold on to while in or getting in or out of. This is unacceptable to call this a handicap accessible room. I complained at the front desk and was told “you have to ask for rails when you make the reservation.” He also said that room is in an older part of the building. DOES NOT MATTER. Doesn’t take much to put up some safety bars. I couldn’t believe this. I thought I was by asking for an accessible room. Stop offering this room as a handicap accessible room before someone gets hurt. I’m sorry offering a bath seat upon request is not good enough. Ever hear of the ADA? You can get sued if you offer this as a safe accessible room and someone gets hurt. Another complaint is having to pay full price when not all amenities are available. No coffee maker (think Kurig makers like other hotels use), no pool, fun center is outside on grass again where handicap people have issues. I will not be back. There are much better places to stay in town with more accommodating staff.

Dear Isjwingsfan: I did attempt to track down your particular stay and guestroom. I am sorry I could not do so without more details. We do have bars in all handicap guestrooms but I do appreciate the location problem as you detail. We also have shower chairs and they typically reside in each handicap bathroom every day. So I am concerned that you did not mention that and I have reinforced that this needs to be the case. The lack of amenities such as the coffee maker and indoor pools, etc are all based on CDC and our Governor's Executive orders. We so wanted to have those amenities open but were only allowed to open most of them earlier in September. Only partially open. I do not believe you paid regular rate because we have not been able to quote regular rack rates. I am sorry that you felt the value was not worth the dollars spent under these circumstances plus during a pandemic. I promise we will keep working hard to be accommodating. Respectfully, Jim Engel, C.O.O. Bavarian Inn Lodge

So disappointed. We are Perks members and we stay at least 1 to 2xs a year since 2009. We used to love this place but if you call in for a reservation you don’t necessarily get the room in the picture you are looking at. So there are standard rooms, premium and deluxe (not sure the difference), suites, family suites and so forth so if you see a listing at a premium family suite you better make sure you just don’t ask for a premium room. This is the second time we did NOT get what we thought we were booking. It’s disappointing and way to difficult to book what we want. We were hoping to get a change of scenery and thought by having a larger room we could spread out and enjoy. This is during Covid so nothing is open (pools, game room) and rates were discounted and we realized that going in. Just sucks that They can’t make it easier and for that, I think I’m done with this place.

Dear Hamys family: I am so very sorry for your disappointment because of not receiving a specific guestroom. We have HUNDREDS of guests who call our reservationists and request a specific room number - much more in depth than just a room type. I am sorry that we do not just have 10 or 20 room types. We have 50 actually. They vary by bed configuration, vies, balcony, and size or amenities (such as a whirlpool in room). We pre-assign each guestroom as they are reserved (over the phone) so please reconsider staying with us again in the future. We have some folks who have one favorite room and have reserved that room for 20+ years in a row. I found out you were able to speak with our Front Desk / Reservations Manager who helped you with the room type challenges while you were inhouse. If you have very specific room number requests in the future Mr. Whalen (or any Reservationist) would be happy to "hard block" a specific guestroom for you. Again I am so sorry for this frustration. I know we can beat it in the future! They can even look up all your previous stays to confirm previous rooms you stayed in. Sincerely, Jim Engel, C.O.O. Bavarian Inn Lodge

Our first visit. Found the Inn by accident while researching a visit to a local military museum.
After a seven hour drive, we stayed for two weeknights, at approximately $250 per night for the room, which was quite nicely furnished, named after the Weiss family.
My first "vacation" in 10 years.
Two days after booking and confirmation, which was accomplished quite some time in advance, the Inn began sending advertisements for 35% off promotions, which did not apply to our already booked reservation. These continued until the day of departure on the trip.
Upon arrival, and activation of room air conditioning, one floor vent began emitting a truly foul smell not unlike a sour mop bucket. This was managed with the application of some pleasant woman's perfume to the vent.
All staff, save one male server in Ona's Restaurant on our last morning, we're quite friendly.
In explanation, it should be noted, that this young man may well have been experiencing a severely painful knot in his shorts.
The gentleman in the Perks office upon our arrival was extremely accommodating with information and directions, as were the young ladies who checked us in.
Food at Onas, was very good, and reasonably priced. We experienced little trouble being seated for breakfast there each day, despite the first come - first served policy.
Our first evening was problematic time wise for a dinner reservation, so we acted on a suggestion by a local business leader, to visit a popular establishment called "Slo Bones", down the street from the Military Museum. A brisket dinner there was simply incredible, and should not be missed.
We dressed for and dined at dinner the second night, at the Bavarian Inn Restaurant, which was excellent, with flawless service by Kyle, an amiable young man who spoke four languages, who engaged us with anecdotes and conversation, while quite adequately providing service to some four other tables as well.
The shops near the Inn did not open until 11 am, which was inconvenient, but provided commerce to local businesses in town instead, which might otherwise have been overlooked.
A very good time can be had at the Bavarian Inn Lodge, and we'd absolutely recommend a visit to anyone.
Bring plenty of disposable cash, as there are so many venues there intended to separate you from it. Either absolutely extravagant, or making miserly choices.
So much to do and see, you'll find something for everyone there.

The Bavarian Inn will always have a special place in my heart! It offered us a retreat during a difficult time and I will forever be thankful. Long story short, my husband was injured and confined to a wheelchair for four months last year. We were so sick of being at home; it was suggested to us that we try the Bavarian Inn Lodge for a getaway to get out of the house. I am so happy that we did! The entire place is handicap accessible. You can request a barrier free room for wheelchair accessibility. There are elevators down to the game center, and wheelchair ramps to help you get there. We enjoyed the Ratskeller bar downstairs and the two restaurants on the main floor. The nightly entertainment at the Lorelei Lounge was wonderful (Kurt is our favorite!). They have power scooters for daily rent, which we would have done if it weren't the middle of Winter. They are $35/daily and you can use them to visit the shops around Frankenmuth. I believe they even said that they have a shuttle to take you to the River Place Shops. We stayed at the Bavarian Inn several times while he was injured and every time we left we felt refreshed. I don't know what we would have done without it while he was hurt. Looking forward to visiting again!
