Ask for a South East/ Detroit facing room because you get an amazing view of Detroit which made the entire stay worth every penny. The location is in a slightly questionable area with unkept lawns and ran down homes but the casino complex is very safe with lots of security. The hotel is steps from a food court with Chinese food and Little Caesars and two restaurants. The valet was closed but the parking structure is free and monitored by security. The room itself had a soft bed (not firm), the doors are heavy and slam shut and the walls thin so it makes for a loud stay. The TV allows for steaming from your phone which is really easy to set up. The room and bathroom are large and spacious as well as clean but not overly clean like they needed to dust and clean the stains in the carpet.

I stopped in here before a Red Wings game for a bit of play and a bite to eat.

There was plenty of easily accessible parking. The interior was clean, but smoky (to be expected). The non-smoking gambling area was completely separate from the smoking area.

I interacted with a staff member at the rewards desk, a beverage server, and security. All the staff member's I interacted with were friendly and attentive.

I only played slots while I was here. There are a large variety of games in various denominations, including some of the older games I like to play and newer games. The machines all worked flawlessly, including the bill receptors and ticket printers.

The ticket redemption machine worked OK, but it only accepted one ticket at a time - so it took a while to cash in at the end of my play.

Despite only playing a few dollars for a few minutes, I earned enough rewards for $2.00 off my dinner, in addition to the 10% member discount. That's a pretty good reward considering how little I played.

There are a lot of options in the food court, I went for the ribs and coleslaw at Grand River Deli & Burgers. I wasn't impressed with either item (dry coleslaw and ribs swimming in BBQ sauce).

You can catch a free shuttle from the casino the the Little Caesar's Arena, but I recommend walking.

All tolled, I really enjoyed my visit to this casino and look forward to visiting again!

I stayed here for 2 nights while in town visiting family. Garage parking is free and easily accessible. The staff member that checked us in was very personable and gave us a nice corner room with a jetted tub. My main issue with this property was housekeeping. While walking to our room we passed a housekeeper coming out of a room she was cleaning pouring a bag of chips in her mouth. Not sure how one can clean a room and sanitize while also eating. Simply put- this was ghetto and unprofessional. Then, the next morning I was awakened at 9am by housekeepers in the hall having a very loud argument, cursing each other out, calling each other obscene names and saying F these rooms I don't give a F about these people. I was just waiting to hear an all out fight based on the things being said incredibly loud right outside my door. It was disgusting and again, very ghetto and unprofessional. It's evident that professionalism and basic respect for people paying money to sleep here is not a requirement of the job at all. Housekeeping is a bunch of ghetto women likely doing the bare minimum to collect a check. If you are celebrating something special or looking for an upscale stay, Motorcity is simply not it. For my purposes and already low expectations, it served its purpose for a very short stay where we spent limited time here beyond sleeping at night. Luckily we had our own clorox wipes because I absolutely do not trust staff here to take the necessary steps to clean properly or efficiently. I'm a native Detroiter that's been gone for almost 2 decades and experiences like this make it hard to root for home and advocate for folks visiting and giving the city a chance.

Our plane landed in Detroit at 11am on a Saturday where we planned to stay the night after the concert at Ford Field. After leaving the airport, the hotel called and said they cancelled our reservation! We booked the room 3 months ahead of time through travelocity for $217/night. The hotel manager said the card wasn't valid which was bold faced lie! He said i have the option to rebook that same room for $497/night! Upon looking over the hotel terms/conditions, it reads, "form of payment to be charged at check-in." My card used to hold the reservation was valid and there was no question it had plenty of funds available. This was a way for the hotel to make double the price of the room and take advantage of Garth being in town. We are currently escalating this situation through the appropriate channels including seeking legal counsel. We spoke to several other couples who had the same issue with this place.

When we arrived the uber driver dropped us off in front of the casino doors, the doors were closed to the casino. We thought the hotel and casino were one it was not also it was very cold we walked
around at 12:45am trying to get information how to get to hotel a lady
told us there is no elevator we had to walk around the corner and up the
stairs. We went around the corner and it
was dark we couldn't find the stairs
the lady was talking about, it was
hidden. We ask a gentleman and he said "oh they want you to to use the employees entrance" it was a very dark walk to the stairs when we got to the stairs there were a hundred cigarette buts all over my husband had to carry our suitcase up 4 flights of stairs. All out of breath from walking up the stairs a guy at the door check our temperature and said yell to get someone to check you in, we went to the counter no one was there, we shouted for 5 mins no one came my husband had to go back to the guy at the door and asked him to call someone.
The only positive thing about the hotel was the room but for $400 for 2 nights this is not worth the price. I have stayed at cheaper hotels and had wonderful experiences. I never checked out the casino. Now having experience the hotel I can assume the 4 stars it has is based on the casino and not the hotel. If you are traveling on a late night flight you will have a problem to find a uber and lyft to the hotel. Most uber and lyft drivers do not want to take you up the the hotel they rather leave you downstairs not only in the night. The security also gave my husband a hard time when he went to buy a drink in the casino they took his ID for a couple mins and called "someone" to confirm what I dont know, other people walked past the security without an issue. This is the worst hotel experience!

We ended up here b/c we got a great rate for a 4.5* hotel on Hotwire.
When I found out it was a Casino I was upset—I mean, who wants to be in a casino during Covid?
But we were both surprised by the ease of check in, the dedication to sanitization and the nice room.
The room was spacious, the bed gets 5 stars in comfort and the TV was huge, bathroom had both a shower and tub and all amenities.
We ordered room service....menu was very limited but we were thrilled with our Greek salad (again, 5 stars) and LIttle Caesar Pizza that came in 20 min.
I would have not have made this as my first choice (b/c of the casino) but we were very happy with our time there.
Employees were top notch, too.

Last night was single handily the worst travel experience I have ever had, all thanks to Motor City Casino and Hotel.
I booked a room at Motor City Hotel way back in November; I have stayed at this hotel in the past and had no issues. However, all that changed yesterday after my horrific experience.
When I went to check into my room, I was informed that they had CANCELLED my reservation.
Excuse me, what?
Yup, they cancelled it earlier that morning. I was absolutely flabbergasted.
The front desk “claimed” they called me earlier that day to inform me my reservation had been cancelled. However, I have absolutely no record of that call and highly doubt a call was ever made. I also never received a written (or email) cancellation notification, which in my opinion, doesn’t make much sense since everything is completed electronically.
After hearing this, I was certain there was a mistake. So, I pulled up my hotel confirmation (via my email) to show the manager. I also informed him that I called the hotel two days prior to my trip and the front desk confirmed my reservation. He responded to me, “Yes, it was confirmed two days ago, but now it’s not. Your reservation has been cancelled and we are completely sold out for tonight”. Every hotel around the area was also sold out.
I truly could not believe this was happening to me. But what was even more unbelievable was that the same scenario was happening to the lady next to me! They had cancelled her reservation, too! She was as shocked and confused as I was and also never received a phone call from the hotel.
When I spoke with the manager, I told him that I had stayed at Motor City in the past and that I also had upcoming trips planned for Motor City Hotel. He did not seem to care about losing my business and was pretty arrogant and unsympathetic. The way hotel management handled the situation was such bad business practice and was beyond frustrating!
After some thought, I firmly believe that the hotel cancelled my reservation because I was paying a lower rate than what the rooms were going for. I could be wrong, but since it was a high traffic night in Detroit and rooms were selling for $300 (plus) per night, it seems plausible. Since I booked my room way back in November and received a special rate via my company, I was paying way less than the going rate and the hotel did not want to honor that price. So, my thought is that they dropped my reservation (and perhaps the ladies next to me) so that they could make more money.
Unless something drastic happens and the management owns up to their mistake and corrects it (which I highly doubt will happen), I will never, ever stay at the Motor City Hotel and Casino ever again. I am sure they don’t care about my complaint or issue and will post the same generic response they do for everybody, but if anything,
I hope a potential hotel guest reads my review and thinks twice before booking.
Unfortunately, it can happen to you... And will probably continue to happen until something is done.

Thank you for the review. We appreciate your concerns in regards to your most recent experience at our property. In regards to hotel reservations, a valid credit card is required to confirm a reservation. A valid credit card is defined as a card that has available funds, has not been cancelled, and has a valid expiration date. The validity of credit cards on reserved reservations are tested on the day of arrival. If the credit card on file is found to not be valid, the reservation is cancelled as that reservation is no longer confirmed with a valid form of payment. As our hotel is very busy, we feel that this policy insures that more guests are able to enjoy our property. Again, we appreciate your comments and hope that this better explains our policies at the hotel. If you have further questions, please contact the hotel directly. Thank you.

Truly the experience we were looking for in the heart of Downtown Detroit. The location is excellent, friendly staff and a hotel with the classic Detroit Elegance. The staff is friendly and the hotel has most things you would want...coffee shop in the lobby, Candy bar pub in the back of the hotel and a sandwich shop on the mez level. The rooms are luxurious although small (think old school hotels or Europe). However, the value was very good and rooms were clean. This hotel has a feel like your in classic Detroit (like the Leland before it went condo OR the Millender before it became the Ashley). As a bonus, within a block are several restaurants and pubs plus the stadiums and theaters are all within a few minute walk or a quick Uber/Lyft ride. I highly recommend the stay for couples. Not really a place for kids and families, but the single traveler may also find this place enjoyable.

The hotel itself was very nice. The major problem was the management’s rationale is for only having room cleaned after 3 days. This means that necessary items are only available when requested . This includes making the beds.We spent a lot of money and received very little .The management claimed it’s because of COVID. Poor excuse!!

We were concerned about safety while staying in Detroit, however once we got to this hotel, we were happy. This is an upscale hotel with an adjoining casino. There are separate parking areas for each building & you had to check in once you drove up to park. Only those staying at the hotel were allowed to park in this area. It was manned 24 hours & they checked the roster to make sure you were a registered guest. The room was a nice size, very clean with double beds. There was a coffee maker with Starbucks coffee & also a mini fridge. The sheets were clean & so was the bathroom. The bathroom was exquisite with a large walk in tiled shower & a soaking tub. Great bathroom amenities & bathrobe also. This room was very comfortable for our three night stay. I Highly recommend this hotel especially if you’re concerned about safety & security!
