The hotel was overall very disappointing. Upon first walking through the doors it was clear that the hotel is coasting along and running its previous great reputation into the ground. It seemed like it took over new (and completely incompetent management) that was making mistakes on every level from cleanliness to hotel decor. We understood that because of covid, hotels have to make changes and cuts, but it felt like they were using covid as an excuse for more cuts than they needed to make. For example, our first room smelled of cigarettes and had no heat. The lack of heat didn't surprise us at first as it's a Michigan winter and maybe they turned off heat in non-occupied rooms to cut costs (totally understandable). The cigarette smell shocked us. Smoking has not been legally permitted in Michigan hotels since 2009. That room should have aired out/been deeply cleaned/renovated within 11 years. The room never heated up, and was only blowing cool air from the vents. A very friendly technician (whose name I seriously regret forgetting as I really would like to give him a shout-out (he was the best part of the stay)) came by and made some tweaks, which got the air coming out slightly warmer, but we still needed to change rooms. When we mentioned that we needed the room change, the hotel staff could not have acted more put-upon. They didn't even want to bring us a luggage cart, let alone move us for their faulty room. They begrudgingly brought a cart up, we moved everything ourselves and when we called them to let them know they can pick the cart up in the old room, they impatiently stated "I guess we can have someone come up and get it". When this has happened at other (lesser) hotels, staff has moved us, and typically upgraded the room for the inconvenience. The only coffee available was from a vending machine which they had the gall to charge $6 a cup for. I know it's a Starbucks machine, but I can have a human being make me a latte AT a Starbucks for less than $6 in Dearborn. There was broken glass in the revolving door (because the glass panels in the revolving door were shattered out. People were regularly getting high on pot within 3 feet from the entrance, and they never vacuumed the lobby carpeting during our stay there. The vacuuming is what bothered me the most because it was so obvious as rock salt was accumulating on the carpets throughout our almost week-long stay, and it would only take 5-10 minutes to clean up. Plus, people brought their pets and the pets can not walk on that salt which meant we had to carry ours further. We almost never saw anyone at the front desk. The only way you could tell that it was even staffed was to go up to the front desk, see them just tucked outside the front area playing on their phones. For a hotel of the acclaimed caliber of the Henry Autograph Collection, they carried themselves as if they worked at a Red Roof Inn. It wasn't bad, but we have stayed at 2-star hotels with more professional, and helpful staff. Going back to the decor; so the hotel has a vintage late-50's early 60's vibe throughout much of the lobby and hallways, which I really like. But as they replace things, they are not keeping the style consistent which was visually confusing. What look are they going for? It's not clear and for this "acclaimed" hotel, a theme should be clear as a new Holiday Inn Express has a very clear theme and branding style. Then there is bunch of art for sale in the hallway leading to the elevators. This seems like a cash grab effort by management as the art is mostly prints (series ### of #### are listed in the paintings). Plus the art varied wildly in style from actually great art that fits what the hotel once stood for, to Disney prints that looked like I could buy from the back of a National Enquirer. It was just one of the many facets of our stay that cheapened the experience and provides our reasoning behind our score.…
We took a short weekend trip to visit the The Henry Ford Museum. The decor was beautiful! We loved the art and the overall atmosphere. The room was comfortable and we had a great view of the city, thanks to the young man who checked us in. The food at Tria was amazing! Every meal we had was perfect. We had such a wonderful time at The Henry and plan on returning!
Great deal on a first class hotel. Covid cautious. Good food, we had excellent weather so we ate outside in the blocked off portico. Played cards out there too. Ate in the card room which we had to ourselves. We never went into the bar or the restaurant. Always cleaning the common areas, we skipped daily room cleaning. Tons of artwork in the common areas.
When checking in and out the staff was friendly. The first thing I look for when checking into a room is the cleanliness of the room. The room was thoroughly clean. I enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay again. GO Henry GO!
The kids were disappointed that the pool was closed, but I guess that was to be expected. Rooms were clean and updated. The art throughout the hotel was beautiful. Staff was friendly. We didn’t eat at the hotel, but it looked like they set up tables for outside dining, which is a nice option in current times.
