I was just there for a spring walk - not to spend the night but there was nobody else there at the time and it was beautiful and peaceful. There was a lot of shoreline available one year when I was there and much less the next year. There was still a good amount of beach area both times.

This small campground (21 sites) is nicely located between Detour and Cedarville, MI, not far from Hessel, MI. Rustic sites, clean vault toilets, water pump, and firewood a half mile down the road. Had a lovely site just steps from a beautiful sandy beach. Watch the freighters, enjoy the clean water, and smell the Great Lakes. We canoed, hiked, biked, and golfed - never a dull moment. Fish fry at The Islander and Moomers ice cream at the North Coast (both in Hessel) top off a perfect week. We’ll be back!
One downer - the well water is brown with iron, but did not taste bad. Also, RVers stay away as the sites are small and not handily accessible for larger rigs.

We only spent one night here, but we enjoyed our stay. It was a pretty drive in to the campground through thick forest. There wasn't much in the way of signage and we missed our turn initially; we only saw a trailer sign on the road along M-134 so watch for that and turn on Campground Road. The sites were spacious, and our site (#19) had a path to Lake Huron. We took our lawn chairs down to the water and enjoyed sitting there enjoying the peacefulness. No electricity or showers. Vault toilets. No reservations; sites are on a first come, first served basis. You self register and pay with cash or cheque (no credit cards). The fee to camp was $15. Be sure to buy some firewood before arriving as it's not available on site; we saw a place selling firewood along M-134 not too far from the campground and picked some up there.
