Based in the heart of borrowdale valley this us an ideal location to explore the many walks in this area. Dog friendly. Rooms are clean and tidy. Restaurant is nice and the river side bar has an open fire to warm you up after a days walking.

Just returned from a two night break at the Scafell Hotel. Intention was to find somewhere to get a little peace and quiet and this hotel met the criteria perfectly. Staff and all other guests were lovely and friendly and we particularly enjoyed the warmth and charm of the cocktail bar. The Riverside bar next door was also nice with...

The Scafell Hotel is now probably my favourite hotel in the Lake District. As regular walkers it is brilliantly located in the stunning Borrowdale valley with great access to high or low level walks (if the weather is bad). You can walk straight from the hotel and get high on the fells if you wish or alternatively drive further a...

We attended for a weekend break away and we were not disappointed . The location of the hotel is just fantastic , nestled in between the mountains making for a fantastic view at breakfast or any time of the day. The room was warm and cosy with the one we had above the bar, this caused no issues with noise...

A fantastic hotel in a beautiful setting where even a very wet day's walking on the fells made you glad to be alive. As stated by others the staff are very friendly and helpful, probably the best I have experienced. The hotel is comfortable and welcoming, the food excellent, whether you utilise the dining room or the pub next door...

We stayed at the Scafell Hotel 8th&9th Nov on a Travel Zoo deal. What a fabulous deal this was. Two nights bed and breakfast for two people with a six course dinner on the first evening. The staff are absolutely brilliant and go that extra mile to please guests. The hotel is very relaxed and comfortable, nicely presented and well...

Tucked away in a quiet corner of the Lake District, this Hotel is ideal for a break away from the masses. It's not far from anywhere but you'd never guess. There's very little in Rosthwaite and that's just how we liked it. Room was lovely - not over-spacious but roomy enough, with a brilliant bathroom. We did a Travelzoo fixed...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Scafell Hotel is a wonderful Country House Hotel located in the very heart of Borrowdale, considered by many as England's finest valley, surrounded by mighty fells, tranquil meadows and crystal clear waters. A paradise for the walker and a perfect centre from which to visit other parts of the Lake District. The Hotel is situated almost at the foot of Great Gable and the Scafell Massif, and is regarded one of the Lake District's renowned headquarters for climbers and hill walkers. Keen anglers will appreciate the Scafell Hotel, as there is excellent fly fishing on the River Derwent and in Derwentwater. Those who are content with gentle rambling or just lazing on restful lawns fringed by trees amidst imposing scenery will be equally happy staying here. Our rooms were fully refurbished during 2010, in a Warm and Rich Country House style with a 'Contemporary Twist' perfect for setting the scene for a peaceful and relaxing break in the beautiful Borrowdale Valley. The Restaurant, Lounges and Bar have been tastefully decorated and furnished to retain that all important Country House warmth, allowing for complete relaxation after a great days walking on the Fells, and maybe even a little 'nap' by the fire after a delicious five course Dinner. Under the constant direction of owner's Miles Jessop MBE (Chairman) and Andrew Nelson (Managing Director) the Management and Team of Scafell Hotel offer truly warm and friendly service. Individual and Independent Country House Hotel for the last 44 years. ... more   less
