The King Copper Motel is the closest lodging to Lake Superior in the Keweenaw Peninsula with the largest, most breathtaking views of the beautiful water. Each room includes queen or king beds, TV, full bath and complimentary coffee and ice. Roll-away beds are available for an additional charge upon request. There is a waterfront beach that is great for taking a dip in the lake, catching fresh lake fish or setting kayaks/canoes out to sea. There is also free boat docking right outside your room. We are open from May-October annually and can be reached day or night. We are also located next to the Isle Royale Ferry dock and parking for your convenience.
Circa 1970 on the building and furnishings. The room smelled of mold, but was clean given the circumstances. I booked a two night stay but left after night one. The scenery leaving Copper Harbor was stunning and overall I am glad I made the trek.

Rooms were spacious and clean. Motel owners were very nice and accomodating. Right on Lake Superior, lawn area extending to the water was a great place to have a beer and watch the sunset. Location near Isle Royale ferry was perfect.

Had a waterfront view room - slider door out to patio with Adirondack chairs to sit in. View is of Copper Harbor - Lake Superior us just beyond but you will have to go out Hunts Point to see it. Rooms are very clean though basic. Front room curtains do not cover the whole window so anyone could see in from the side & morning sun comes in. Walking distance to Tamarack Restaurant on the main road. Evening time was very peaceful to sit & look out at water & sunset & birds. Only downfall was no privacy from neighbors…..if they are chatty you will be able to eavesdrop!

This was a very expensive room. Read their policies - they lock in your money but don't take care of you or their property. Basics such as a small refrigerator, air conditioning (the portable fan/air cooling machine did not provide cool air, just made a ton of noise and blew dust around), windows that worked - I had to go outside tor force them closed, curtains that provided security were not in place - they were shabby, dirty and too small; you could see through the gaps. Keys that could easily be copied giving access to any room at anytime including at night as there was no deadbolt.. Easy to jimmy the cheap locks in place. The door to the lawn/common area had no curtain - you could see through and it let the bright light in at morning. The drain to the tub would not close and the cheap piece of plastic provided to cover the drain did not suffice as a work around. The tub and shower ran at the same time and were not secure on the wall. In addition there were a large number of flies, thanks for the fly swatter but why should I spend my first hour killing flies? The TV would not pull up any channels. The Wifi was spotty/basically non existent; I was depending on the advertised WiFi for work purposes. The room was “sticky” I had to wipe it down. A strong rotting smell was coming from somewhere (I believe both the old, dirty carpet and old furniture) it dissipated somewhat after I opened the windows and put the fan on. When I talked to the person at the desk she basically called the rooms "outdated" and would not acknowledge the lack of maintenance or dirtiness. She told me I was welcome to find a different hotel (after they took my money of course). I asked if there was an avenue for complaints she said there was not. I told her I would send an e-mail to the hotel. When I did she, or someone else, responded in a return e-mail saying she wished I had told her when I talked to her the first night (totally dismissing our conversation how disgusting the room was or that she told me I was welcome to stay somewhere else.)…

We reserved a two-bed room in the off-shore buildings. The location is amazing and the views are stunning. We had an end room. While it was the furthest from the view, we had an additional window and ample parking space being the last/first space in from the very quiet road. This is a 3-season building built mid-century and our expectations were adjusted accordingly. It did not disappoint. Clean room and surprisingly comfortable beds. Front and back door, small back patio with table and chairs, where you can view the lake. They delivered and plugged in a fridge upon request! Travelers should know that the off-shore buildings are not built for security (the windows are louver from the outside and the doors are simple knob locks) however, the vibe in Copper Harbor is chill and neighborly. The room is smaller than the norm, but we didn't spend much time in it. There was a standing fan and interior a/c unit duct to the floor. The room had few outlets but a power strip near the bed made up for it. The bathroom was CLEAN and roomy, fluffy towels, good water pressure, hot water, big mirror, no hair dryer. Note that the two-bed rooms would not accommodate a walker or a wheelchair. The first bed is about two feet from the door and wall. The BEST part is location - the area surrounding the hotel so lovely and walking areas on the water adjoin the property. The off-shore hotel's office has been turned into a coffee and ice cream shack, and there is a bakery on the water that serves delicious bites and yummy breakfast sandwiches with tables on their dock. …

Don't be put off by the the basic nature of the rooms -- no fridge, hair driers, coffee makers, or other conveniences you may have come to expect. But this place makes up for it with its vibe. Its relaxed spaces that each room look out on, seats with a view of the Lake. And a friendly staff taking care of the rooms. You won't forget this place -- and the memories will be good.

We stayed in the King Copper Annex, which is directly on the shore of Lake Superior. If you are looking for 24/7 access to the water with view of the harbor, the ferry to Isle Royale - this is it. Also a yummy coffee/donut place on the shore. The annex has a mid-century model vibe with lots of updates, very comfortable beds and linens. Office staff was very friendly and accessible. Giving it a 4 because bathroom may be difficult for someone who needs clearances and sink/toilet to be higher. Overall a wonderful place and great getaway!

The motel is an artifact from the 1960’s, tiny bathroom with pink tiles, thin walls, & assorted, inexpensive unmatched furniture. However, except for the doors, which were simple wood with older semi-secure locks, the unit was quite well maintained, and the beds very comfortable. Cleaning was thorough! There was always plenty of hot water in the shower, although it took awhile to run hot. The view was exceptional - every unit has a view of the harbor across a well maintained lawn, and there was lots of lawn furniture where one could relax and contemplate the beauty of the lake. We’d definitely stay here again

Stayed here one night while on the way to Isle Royale. Bathroom was clean and updated. Some funky retro details: light fixture and slatted crank out window/door. There was frig. The bed was large and comfortable. There was a standing fan and a small floor air conditioner that were in working order. Dish TV. Lovely view of Lake Superior
