Detailed Reviews
I've been going there for a while (mainly eagle's nest) but a couple of things jump out at me.
1- The service- While sitting at the bar on a pretty packed night, I couldn't get a drink because every bartender was out on the dance floor. Hmmm?
2. My friends and I ate there. One didn't care for the burger, another liked his chicken wings, Nacho's were ehh, and the wrap was good, however we were served some homemade potato chips that were very soggy....
It's a bit on the expensive side, and for how beautiful the place is the bathrooms are pretty lame.

Had a wonderful time staying at the lodge. We were there for 3 nights visiting family in the area. The staff was warm and welcoming. Their dog was great with my toddler. They played so well together and she wanted nothing more then to love on him.
The room was very clean and nicely remodeled. The staff made every effort to make our stay rememberable. They took us on a tour and told us the history of the place. The views were amazing.
We will be back!

We had a great experience this past weekend at the Black Mountain Lodge. Paula (Owner) and Wally (Operations Manager) go out of their way to make your stay positive and enjoyable. The live music was entertaining and plenty of staff to take care of your eating or drinking needs. We stayed in the cabin (2 bedroom / 1 bath) with another couple and liked the additional room. We had plenty of room to park our 32' trailer. The improvement projects on site are continuous and amazing progress has been made over the last two years (considering the all natural look approach). We're looking forward to going back in October. They put a fantastic Halloween party on.

I dined at this restaurant twice last summer, Sitting on the deck with a nice view of the lake. I wanted to go back again this year to have dinner on the deck. I called to make reservations and they said they do not take reservations. To sit on the deck, just need to come early. We went to the restaurant early to get a deck seat. There were two empty tables on the deck but they would not seat us on the deck, instead bringing us inside. We were then told that the empty deck tables were for reserve customers. There were eventually three empty tables on the deck while they continued to seat people inside.
Restaurant should not tell people there are no reservations while they actually do take reservations for deck seating.
Food is average, service less than average.

We took the scenic, winding road drive out of Cheboygan to go for lunch at this classic rustic pine log lodge and bar/restaurant.
It was my first time there and I loved the “Up North” feel of this place nestled in the woods overlooking a lake. We had delicious fresh walleye with thinly sliced crispy, sweet potato fries with an appetizer of deviled eggs while sitting on the deck of the Eagles Nest. The drink and wine list was reasonably priced. The bar inside has wonderful handcrafted pine log furniture.
The waitress brought us a menu from the fine dining room. It all sounded delicious as well as the Sunday Brunch that they now offer.
I would highly recommend this place for a night out with friends or a family gathering.

I was so surprised for my 78 birthday with the setting, wait staff, linens and the window view. Couldn’t be a more perfect picture. The food was the best I’ve had in years.we have been coming here for 30 years and it just gets better.
I ordered salmon fron from Scotland , to die for. So rich and hot right out of oven with mashed potatoes and fresh asparagus.it was a very hardy dinner and I enjoyed the rest on of the next day.we didn’t need a salamd because we ordered beef Cubans. This was shavings of prime rib with special sauseand enveloped in small spinach wrap. The rest of my party ordered the 12 oz.prime rib, end cut and reg. Cut. It was tender and so flavorful and they in turn carried out another meal for next day. Portions very adequate.for dessert Mark surprised us with a huge double layer caramel topped carrot cake , shared by three. Awe, awesome so good it was moist decadent nutty and the best carrot cake ever. I need that recipe.
Can’t wait to go back again and the service was in peckable. Thanks to my sis for treating us to a gourmet experience see you next year on my 79 birthday and many times before that.I understand they also have a Sun brunch.Don’t miss this highlight of Cheboygan and black mountain.Bon appetite.

We have been going to the Chateau/Black Mountain Lodge for many years. We had one of the best meals there this week. Whitefish basket dinner with asparagus and onion rings. Excellent! Kudos to the chef and attentive staff. We'll be back!

This is a typical lets move up north and retire business. From the “Operations Manager” down this place needs work. The owner is a very nice woman who I believe is trying her best but is lost trying to find the identity of the business. The hotel is riddled with one unfinished project after another, and it doesn’t appear that they are moving very fast to finish them.
Upon checking into our room, which was very clean we went down to the “Eagles Nest” for a few drinks. I didn’t realize I was going to be paying big city prices for simple drinks in the middle of the woods. What started out to be a nice conversation with the bartender we quickly felt like we were second class citizens when other hotel guests showed. At this point there was a total of maybe 12 customers in the bar area and we had to go find the bartender so that we could get refills. We were further more turned off when the bartender started drinking and doing shots behind the bar, again to busy to take care of us and our desire to have another drink. The next morning I figured out the Bartender is the “Operations Manager.” We were ready to check out early from our two night stay at this point. We thought better of it and decided to give it one last chance.
On our second nights stay once back in our room we were awoke at 2:30 a.m. with an hour long argument between what sounded like the owner and other hotel guests. This lasted for over an hour. Much cussing and swearing took place and was clear as day. Looking back I should have called the Police to end this childish act by a bunch of adults in the middle of the night. There was no apology presented the next morning for the circus act that took place the night before. It was not even mentioned by the staff or the “Operations Manager.” I felt that if the management and owners are to ignorant and blind to admit a problem like this happened, than I wasn’t going to deal with them. And upon handing in my room key I felt like they were glad to have me gone.
We didn’t eat any meals at the BML but judging from the service we received and the prices on the menu we felt we would only be setting ourselves up for even further disappointment. With restaurants and bars like the 211, Lorenzo’s and The Bluffs in the area there is no reason to pay the high prices of the BML when you can get a great meal at a good price at one of the other three businesses. We ate at all three and we were more than satisfied at each place.
I have been going up to the Black Lake area all my life and this was the first and last time we will stay at the BML. Unfortunately there are no other hotels on the lake or in the Mountain area to stay in so if you want to stay “on the trail” this is your only option. What a great business opportunity for someone that knows what they were doing. The BML wouldn’t be much competition. Especially as long as the BML has Wally as their “Operations Manager,” he’s lucky he could manage his way out of a wet paper bag.

My family just returned from our stay yesterday 7-30-12. We stayed in their bunk house which the kids loved because its just that, one room with 7 beds lined up. From adult view this resort has lots of unfinished tasks (remodeling bar and outside, when whats really needed is work on the rooms. We were disappointed at the cleanliness of the room but made the best of it by purchasing some lysol wipes and lysol air freshener along with anti bacterial bathroom cleaner. The counter in the area thats the so called mini kitchen were filthy as well as the bathroom, The carpet was so dirty our socks were black on the bottom. Coming for a 2 night vacation and having to go and buy cleaning products to clean a room that was as the owner put it " cleaned and waiting for our arrival" is a crock!! I spent $15.00 on cleaning supplies to clean a $145.00 a night room. The Eagles nest restaurant has very slow service, we ordered nachos, burgers and chicken sandwiches and waited over a hour and a half for our food, just to spend another $100.00 for it. Upon ret, home I was given a courtesy call to inform me there were 2 pillows missing and they had to go into town to purchase 2 new pillows. I informed the owner there were not pillows on all the beds when we got there and further more, we brought our own pillows and blankets, never pulled the bed down, just put our over top of their very old outdated comforters that were on the bed. He still insisted his house keeper says 2 were missing and this was a "courtesy call" to inform me they had billed my credit card for them. There was no changing his mind, I would absolutely not take a dirty pillow that has been used by who knows, thats just plain gross!!! The staff was friendly including the owners while we were there, and all I can say is if you dont mind having to clean and being charged for items that they "think" they are missing than this may be the place for you, if your looking for clean, comfort, and a break from housecleaning then dont stay here.

Our son was just being transferred from Cheboygan and brought us out for dinner. It’s under new ownership. Off the beaten path with a great bar and great food! :) We wish we had discovered this place earlier!
