Detailed Reviews
Small private campground with rental cabins and reasonable rates.
Host and management staff friendly and courteous.
Campsites are small compared to the state park down the street but appear adequately maintained. There is a nice walking path to the lake with dock/fishing access.
Fair warning: There are lots and lots of signs/notices all over the campground which detract from the outdoor experience IMO. (Pretty sure that a notice to clean up after yourself in the bathroom isn't going to make much difference for someone who doesn't do that already.) And for those to whom this might make a difference, the campground host is clearly an enthusiastic supporter of the former US president.

I highly recommend this campground! This is our third time staying and each time has been amazing! Pat ( the owner) is very friendly and a great small business owner. Very clean cabins and extremely comfortable. 5 stars!!

We loved staying here. We stayed at the motel in the Wolf room. Decorated cute and updated bathroom. This was clean and homey. Even has a recliner. Nice fully stocked coffee station and kitchenette. We even got two bags of popcorn one night!! Pat was sweet and we will stay again!!

I like to go camping with family and enjoy and forget about things. This place is all political. When talking with the owner it’s pretty much “it is what it is”. Her business I get it but I would not feel safe here with family and the kids running around. Will definitely look elsewhere

Our stay here was wonderful! This is a great alternative to a cookie-cutter hotel, with every possible convenience prepared and ready in this immaculate cabin. We arrived on a cold, rainy night and my wife was so happy to sit in the lounger by the gas fireplace and turn on the tv. You won’t go wrong!

I went with my family (parents, sister, and her S/O) to stay in our trailer and upon arrival we were told that the site which we had booked was given away the night before. My father was furious at them as they had been looking forward to that site (we'd been there before) but the owner offered nothing. They clearly didn't write anything down or take us seriously when we called. The other close campground was all booked up (Caribou) so we were forced to take one of the other sites. The sites were all smaller than the one we booked and there was a lingering odor of sewage every now and then.

Response from haroldf354, Owner at Birchwood Resort & Campground
Responded Aug 20, 2018
I am sorry about your site, but when quest reserve by phone and ask for a specific site we Make a note of that on the reservation form at the time of speaking with customer. And they are promised that site. We DO NOT move campers who ask for a specific site. We have been here 20 years and are just a mom and pop place with only 33 camp sites, I can't ever remember not one camper that we gave their site away, ever. There is also NOT another close campground called Caribou, so maybe you didn't stay at Birchwood resort & campground in Cadillac, Michigan. We have not had any complaints from any camper of the oder of sewage, either lingering or constant. Did you go to the office and say something to either Harold or pat about the smell? I think no, because we would of found the source and eliminated it.

Biked from Grand Rapids to Cadillac via the White Pine Trail. Stayed in hotel 1. The room was super clean and nice! The heater, shower, layout made the room very relaxing and gave me the warm feeling of staying in a cabin in the woods. The owners were very kind and waited for us to get in, we didn't arrive until late at night due to some cycling setbacks. Showed us to our room and even locked our bikes up in his barn for us. You don't get that kind of service at a large generic chain hotel!

What ever happened, became a nightmare. We are elderly as well as handicapped. We travel much of the time, often with friends. This time was different. Accusations of vandelism, and cabin misbehavior such as putting away dishes dirty and wet, breaking an electric coffee pot, and an improperly installed towel rack that fell off it's mount due to being supported only by wallboard. Make sure before renting any room, or cabin. that you require an inventory of working order appliances, including all accessories, dishware, utilities in working order, dishware, utensils etc. are present and in working order. Also make any remarks that are necessary, as we found safety infractions that clearly were not marked. One of them being witness to an adjacent cabin of a gentleman being struck in the face by a low hanging solid mounbted birdhouse that knowked him to the ground. And my fiancae being struck in the face by a head high mounted air conditioner not properly marked or warning sign. We remain with the thought that Harold and Pat are nice people, but have in our case, overstepped their bounds. We ate out at all times and have our credit card statement that will back our statement as truth, and pictures that show our cabin behavior as I am a photo hobbiest and often take candid pictures, and we are coffee and tea drinkers, and always bring our own coffee maker. We were told we got a good deal for our stay by Harold. I told him his prices remain negotiable. Theres always someone else that will accomadate us. Besides, the Resort sign shows a discount given to travelers. We feel we paid for our stay the given price that was stated. Nothing less, nothing more! We have decided to never go back to Birchwood Resort, as there are other Inn's that will show a better appreciation to their guests. Much to our surprise, there are often times, loud emited noises coming from scores of snowmobilers all times of the night. Especially on the weekends, of which part of our stay involved.

Rooms are comfortable and nicely decorated. The lady in charge is very friendly. My small dog loved the campground. There was plenty of room for her run and chase squirrels. It was a tad pricey for what they offered but overall it was a nice experience.

We went snowmobiling for the first time and stayed here. It was comfortable and VERY clean. We were on the White Pine Trail in less 10 minutes. Just a quick and pretty drive to Caberfae Peaks! Great place we will definitely stay again!
