As a former resident of the area this was my first time back in almost 25 years and I remember how wonderful a hotel the Townsend was. The hotel certainly has not aged well. The public spaces are nice, but the rooms are in need of renovations. Too many scuffs, scratches, chips, etc for an upscale property. Room automation and entertainment are very dated and need of upgrades. For the most part the staff was engaged, unless there was a concern, and then they quickly became defensive seemingly from having to listen to too many concerns, giving you the feeling that any problems are your fault. The Rugby grill was enjoyable and food was good, although dirty silverware was put out and had to be replaced. I was very much hoping for a positive experience, as I am planning to be in the area more often in the future and neighboring properties are too “trendy”. Hopefully a renovation is planned and the hotel can live up to its reputation. Planning another stay next summer, assuming improvements are made.…

This hotel provided everything that one would need. It was in a neighborhood that was safe walking at anytime of the day. There were plenty of shots and social things within walking distance. I definitely would recommend to anyone.

Great place to stay. Only wished for faster service at the grill. While the server was friendly and seemed competent, it took too long to be served hot coffee and two breakfast entrees. We enjoyed the nearby shops and restaurants all within walking distance. Everyone did their best to ensure our comfort. We will return to this hotel should we be in the area again.

The room and location were great, but we had so many issues related to how many rooms we booked and their proximity to each other. And because they could not accommodate a reasonably early check-in, I was literally participating in a wedding 30 minutes after check in time and could not deal with their mistakes. Great hotel if you don't care about how many rooms you need or where they are located or when you can get in them.

We stayed over a long weekend and were completely impressed by the rooms, the hotel itself and the superb staff. Great, walkable yet quiet location. I completely recommend this and will return again if we visit the area again. Brunch was lovely as well.

We came here when coming to the area for IVF procedure with IVF Michigan. We stayed here and felt instantly at home during a stressful time. Brendan, a server at the ruby grille was the best service me and my husband have ever experienced. It was phenomenal and unforgettable. We definitely will be coming back for our further procedures and could never pick to stay anywhere else. The hotel is superb.

This is the best hotel in the Detroit area. The entire staff from the valet staff greeting you to the front dest providing a quick check in. All available on your phone. The house keeping staff is incredible. The Bell assistants quick and efficient. Wonderful rooms.

This is one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in, especially in a suburban area. The entire property is beautiful. The room was huge and had every in-room amenity imaginable. Breakfast in the hotel restaurant was outstanding, with one of the best eggs Benedicts I’ve every had.
