The Townsend Hotel captivates guests with its impeccably clean, classically charming, yet modern atmosphere, highlighted by a lobby adorned with cozy fireplaces. Nestled in a prime location, it stands out for easy access to local attractions, shopping, and dining. Accommodations receive commendation for their luxury and cleanliness, although there are mentions of dated decor and occasional heating problems.
While the staff's attentiveness is often praised, some guests note service inconsistencies. Additionally, travelers advise vigilance regarding unexpected charges that may affect the perceived value of their stay.

This beautiful hotel in uptown Birmingham Michigan is very conveniently located right in the heart of town . The parking is very convenient , the hotel lobby is always spotless and Tastefully decorated . There are several areas to sit in front of the fireplaces. The management team and staff who are led by general manager Adrienne Cousins couldn't be a better trained or have a healthier respect for the owners, managers and hotel guests. Exceptional staff and management leadership. I would highly recommend this beautiful and Elite Property.

Very nice hotel. 4 star. Very expensive starting at $365 per nite. Rooms Very nice and roomy. Has a bar and restaurant. Very close to shopping and restaurants in the area. Easy walking distance. Staff very friendly and helpful. Key pad inside room door gives you options for lights, housekeeping and privacy. Housekeeping and privacy light up on key pad outside of the door to let staff know whether to clean or not to clean. Outside key pad is also a doorbell. Valet parking is $30 per nite. Street parking and parking lots are metered. I think it is limited to 1 hour.

This is one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in, especially in a suburban area. The entire property is beautiful. The room was huge and had every in-room amenity imaginable. Breakfast in the hotel restaurant was outstanding, with one of the best eggs Benedicts I’ve every had.

In mid-January of 2025, we were looking fwd to staying at the Townsend (due to online reviews).
The good: It still looks nice & luxurious, as years past. Great location in the centervof booming Birmingham, MI. You feel secured as your room key is required to access any floor in the elevators. Very clean and maintained. Plus, both bartenders in the Rugby Grille are very good and friendly.
The Bad: the devils are in the details.
On Check-in limited parking ($40 per day valet); but metered street parking. The meters would not take several credit cards & the hotel with not provide change for a $1.
The room was clean, but no shampoos (2 body washes). No hairdryer in room ( but H.K. delivered a new hairdryer an hr later). Unfortunately, the individual room heater is old (on/off freq. throughout night - extremely dry). As such, we asked H.K. if they had a humidifier (strong recommend), they said they did (but it was not delivered). On our last night, we called back & asked if HK would lend one to our rm * they did.
Staff is instructed to recommend on-site bar,restaurant...but not too helpful of offside recommends or the excellent Itailan restaurant across the street.
So while we love the location, there are many good hotels around Birmingham.

Even though we expressly noted our desire for daily housekeeping service, most of the people in group did not receive maid service or clean towels, etc. -- Even after calling the front desk. It's a very nice hotel, but Housekeeping needs some improvement, and the service in the restaurant for breakfast is so slow we decided to eat elsewhere after the first day.

My wife and I had our reception at this hotel. It is a very nice hotel and incredible reputation. We were in the area and decided to stay at this hotel for our anniversary. The hotel was made aware of this and decided to put us in one of the rooms that have no view or direct light. We looked at air conditioning ducts. You would think that after spending $50k on a wedding reception, they would at least put us in a decent room

Wow. As a local, having been sending guests to the Townsend for years. Put parents up for the holiday in a $400 a nite room, which was poorly serviced on arrival and facing a parking garage. Heat malfunctioned on a very cold night, and crews were in the room for an hour servicing. Very kind, but major inconvenience at price point. Called front desk and was told they wouldn’t even comp breakfast as a courtesy, and was talked down to. Will book the Daxton next time.

We stayed at the Townsend to attend a wedding. It was a wonderful weekend and the Townsend was perfect. A great wedding reception held there - did not seem like a public space- very intimate and charming. The staff went above and beyond - including a quick and masterful clean up of an area of dance floor when someone spilled their drink so nobody slipped. Rooms were comfortable and and quiet, and the lobby is cheerful and a fun place to relax and socialize. And the coffee was great! Super experience and will definitely return toThe Townsend.

As I was checking out for my "pre-paid" room I was informed that there was an amenities charge. This charge was not disclosed when I purchased the room on Expedia nor when I checked-in. The receptionist was also unable to tell me what this amenities charged covered. This was certainly deceptive.

We were visiting for a Christmas party and the hotel was the best. The classic style you'd often find in other hotels normally comes with a feeling of neglect, but that is certainly not the case here. The decorations and vibe of the place were on point and everything felt both "old school classy" and clean and upkept at the same time. Friendly staff and the furthest thing you'd find from a chain hotel. 10 out of 10.

Good Day,
Every room does not have a soaking tub so it is important that you mention your requirement for one so we can accommodate you accordingly.
We look forward to the opportunity of seeing you!
All of the rooms do not have balconies. You must request a luxury suite and specifically mention that you want a balcony so the hotel can hold it for your arrival. In-Room Dining is fabulous and can make a wonderful dinner for you!
There are more places to choose from in the Birmingham area.
