Powderhound is a laid-back place to hang out and warm up after a day of skiing or snowmobile riding. The BYOB bar is fun and a great cost effective option to a traditional bar; steps from your room.
For the planners... make sure to commence with Ann and Chris on your needs (first floor, larger beds/bath, etc.). They are great people and very accommodating. We had a large group where the options were great to lounge in the living/kitchen area or hang out in the bar. Our group also had the chalet in addition to a few rooms in the lodge.
The chalet is a great option for 2 couples or a family. Each bedroom has a bed for 2 + a twin or bunks. And there's a loft in the 3rd level for 2 more older kiddos or teenagers.

My Girlfriend and I were looking to blow the dust off the Snowmobiles, so we set out on a hunt to find lodging which is when PowderHound Lodge came highly recommended by multiple friends of mine. We reached out to Anne & set up our dates. Upon arriving, we were greeted by Chris, Anne, & their two beautiful dogs! They welcomed us to the lodge and we received the grand tour! We were very pleased! We took off snowmobiling & returned to relax in the hot tub, followed by a few drinks, sharing stories with other guests as well as Chris & Anne! They are great hosts who offer a great experience to run parallel with your plans of visiting the area. We will be back for sure! One stay and you feel like you're part of the family!

Highly recommend! The lodge has a variety of social commons areas including a large living room area with couches, a pool table, BYOB bar and a hot tub & sauna. The owners Chris and Anne are what really make this place amazing!!

We stayed two nights in room 8, which is back behind the kitchen ... a perfect first-floor setting for us with ready access to the kitchen and dining areas. Each room is different, so just talk to Anne when you book to help select the one that will meet your needs the best.
There are many options for socializing or having some solitude. We enjoyed watching the stars and the red moon outside as well as a game of cards in one of the many play areas of the rec room.
There is great WiFi. We traveled to Porcupine State Park for a great hiking day trip and to see some of the falls for a quick afternoon drive.
It might go without saying since this is a lodge, but bring your own toiletries, hair dryer, etc. We enjoyed our fall trip, and can see how every season would be a different (and great) experience!

We recently spent a weekend snowmobiling in the Western U.P. and stayed at the Powder Hound Lodge. Chris and Anne were as hospitable, accommodating, and welcoming as they could possibly be. Our stay was very comfortable and we enjoyed socializing with other guests and the owners. They really make you feel like you're at home there.

The Backcountry Snowmobile tour that was set up through the lodge was amazing. The guide took us to beautiful places on untracked snow all day long. By the end of the weekend the groomed trails in the area had been heavily travelled and were rough as the whole town was full of snowmobilers, but we got to ride where no one else was and the snow was perfect. He even shared some local history when we were near logging and mining operations, it was interesting and made even the rest stops fun.

We will be back!!

We had a great stay at Powderhoud. It's warm, inviting and family friendly. Staying at Powderhound felt more like visiting friends that staying at a hotel -- fantastic feeling. We had two nice rooms on the main floor with plenty of space and loved that we could use the kitchen. The kids had a great time in the great room with plenty of space to play pool, games or watch a movie. We'd go back in a heartbeat. Thanks Anne and Chris.

What a great and affordable place to stay for a ski weekend. Owners, Chris and Anne, make stay fun and enjoyable. We stayed in room 2 and had plenty of space for ski gear and to sleep. Loved to be able to take shuttle back for lunch or to let kids ski when Mom tired out and they could get back with no problems. I'm so glad I found this place and will definitly be staying again and again. Thanks again Chris and Anne for the wonderful lodge.

We booked 3 months in advance and when they had a problem come up on their end less than 2 weeks before our large group would be coming, they showed zero concern for our stay and were instead focused on their own profits. Please be aware that they will not go out of their way to help the guests even when it's their problem. Beware of this place if you are booking a large group.

How do you begin to review a lodge that made your trip the best of your life? Let's just say you should all get your butts to Bessemer Michigan and stay at the Powderhound Lodge! We hosted the after party for our wedding here and everyone from small children to my grandparents loved the lodge.
Accommodations: The lodge offers individual large rooms that can accommodate a couple on a tight budget up to a large family looking to house their next reunion. It's perfect for anyone looking for a laid back place to relax and enjoy all the beauty that the western upper peninsula has to offer.
Kitchen: Ann has everything you will every need to feed the people in your party. While the kitchen is small, it is well appointed with every utilcel including but not limited to a pasty masher (I'm not even sure what that is).
Management: Ann and Chris are the true reason you visit this amazing lodge. Ann is a gem of a person and will make you wish she was your best friend from the minute you arrive to the sad ending of your trip. Chris is a jack of all trades and quietly met all our silly needs without complaint. He created a keg cooler out of a barrel when he realized we hadn't brought something to keep our keg cold. Someone in our group made a comment that mosquitos were getting in the house and we came home the next day to find he had made screens for the door to keep them out. Who even does that? He also volunteered for ever thankless job like grilling for our group of 90 people or morning cleanup. We will be returning just to see them because we miss them already.
The area: Ironwood and Bessemer would be beautiful in any season. There are waterfalls to explore in the summer, wildflowers in the spring, foliage that can be seen from copper peak in fall, or snowmobiling and skiiing in winter. Ann and Chris are happy to make recommendations that will make your visit perfect for each person.

The best priced lodge in the area. What's more is that it is a quality place. My wife and I stayed here along with friends. It is a laid back atmosphere and felt like home. The owners Chris and Annie were so nice and by the time we left we considered them friends. Even before arrival they were working to make sure that we had the best time possible as they knew our friends in our group had small children and they recommended we switch rooms away from the rec room for the children will not be kept up in the evening in case of any noise. So they gave us a discount for switching our rooms away from the rec room and the room my wife and I selected was still near the rec room but there was nothing to be concerned about as there was not any noise. It is such a beautiful, rustic looking place yet still had all the modern amenities. The views are beautiful with the ski hill just down the road. Oh, and be sure to check out the outdoor hot tub. We did in January. A unique invigorating experience!
Do not hesitate to stay here. You will have a marvelous time. We are already planning a return trip!
