Not sure whether to give it 3 or 4 stars. I gave it 4 because there was nothing "wrong" with it. The suite I stayed in was just an extra long room, but there were 2 queen beds and a queen pullout couch, so sleeping a family of 5 with 3 children of opposite age worked out. There is only 1 TV between the 2 queen beds: no TV in front of the couch. For a suite I usually expect 2 TV's. The staff was attentive and responsible. We needed extra linens and they brought them immediately. The breakfast staff worked very hard to keep things stocked, but when you shut down breakfast at 9am on the day after a holiday (July 5), everybody in the hotel will be at breakfast between 8 and 9. The space was not large enough to accommodate such traffic. Breakfast was decent, but not particularly good or great. There was enough variety. Exercise room consists of just a few pieces of equipment. No free weights. Pool was a decent size but we never went in. Benton Harbor itself is kind of a ghost town: it looks like it was a city of 50K plus but now only has a population of 10k. Much has been abandoned or closed. Thankfully the sister city, St. Joseph, is still doing well. I would consider staying here again if I were in the area, but nothing about it makes me say I will definitely come back. It;'s a decent hotel that is clean and maintained well, but nothing memorable.

We needed a place to stay for two nights between driving from way north in Michigan back to Iowa. We like St. Joseph beach a lot so we try and stop here whenever going back home from vacation. I had stayed at a brand new Comfort Suites near Cleveland back in May that was awesome so I thought this one would be good too. The price was lower than say the much better HI Express but we were doing to be at the beach most of the day we were here so not a big deal if the hotel wasn't as nice. In general it was just not a nice hotel - it hadn't been updated in a long time if ever, our trash never got emptied, breakfast wasn't good or they were out of stuff and breakfast also ended at 9 am, stains on the lamp shades, tv was not HD and the picture didn't fit the screen, and my wife left a body pillow on the bed and the maids left a note saying they couldn't make the bed because we left something on it lol! So crazy. The worst part about this place was my kids went down to the pool to swim with my wife and discovered half way through their swim that there was poop all over the pool and the pool deck. Spend a few extra $ or sleep in your car don't go to this place. - The good - The bed was comfy and the air worked well. Also it wasn't the worst placed I've stayed!! So it gets a poor instead of a terrible rating!

Things that when wrong, After check-in, electronic key did not work, 15 minutes later standing in front of door we were given a new room. New room was number 200 which was located right next to staircase. Ugh! Kids running up and down for the pool. Did I mention we have been traveling for 15 hours from California. So sleepy. It gets better. Kids right above us and next room over. 1030pm PJ and slippers, front desk notified. Finally some quiet time. The full picture, it was graduation day lots of family celebrating. Things that were right. Front desk was responsive. Second day we moved to room 325. Room is facing to the back and much more quieter. there's no road noise. Good breakfast in the morning just get there early. Mini store was a bonus. Not Bad if you.... get top floor, middle suites back facing. Hope this helps your stay.

The check-in and check-out staff were very helpful. The breakfast included scrambled eggs, sausage, something else hot, fruit, cereal, hard boiled eggs, pastries, make your own waffles, yogurt, coffee, juice, milk and more at proper temperatures. Our room was really clean. The linens and bed felt as good as home. The pillows seem to be down. It's great to have the sofa, chair and table instead of having to sit on the beds. Lamps are throughout the room. We will be back!! So easy to get on and off the highway without road noise.

Outstanding visit! Staff was warm and helpful. Our room was spotless and in great condition. Sheets were crisp and soft, like they had hung on the clothesline at home. Hot breakfast bar was best I've ever experienced, ranging from eggs, sausage, hash browns to yogurt, fresh fruit, danish and muffins, and make-yourself waffles. Food was amazing! I enjoyed the swimming pool (which had extensive open hours) which was actually warm, unlike most hotel pools. Also enjoyed the hot tub! Overall, one of the best places I have ever stayed. Highly recommend!
