We stayed in room #2 & I highly recommend trying to get that room. It is very large, has brand new carpet & a new couch. If you like moose & the outdoors, this is the room for you ! The owner was very friendly & showed us how to use the Roku TV ,which we had never heard of. The shower was hot, towels were plush & the continental breakfast was nice. The property is very well kept. We had a good nights' sleep even though I was concerned about road noise from M-37. It was quiet. Dealing with a family member that lives up that way that is in very poor health, this motel stay was a very positive experience for us. Pretty sure we will be staying there again. There are a bunch of similar sized "Mom & Pop" motels in the area. I can honestly say that this one is a winner !

I am a frequent visitor of the "Red Moose Lodge". It is an absolutely beautiful place to stay. The new owners have put their heart and sole into the recent renovations . Their hard work and diligence has really made my stay more enjoyable than ever. I particularly enjoy the "lodge center" with free continental breakfast and the hot tub.Take my word on it, you will be happy you decided to stay here!Sandy James

Imaculate little lodge right on the peirre marqeutte river. water is crystal clear . I mean right on it. Next door is the dnr canoe drop off. On the other side of the road is flyfishing only and catch and release only zone for 8 miles. Community room is just wonderfull. Great for kids. Little tackle shop in the owners end of the lodge. One bit of advise. I recomend not crossing the female 1/2 of ownership. She seems to be a bit on the stern side. All the imaculate-ness must come at a price.

From all of us at Wayne State, we wanted to thank you very much for this past weekend. We had a ton of fun throughout the entire weekend. Saturday was a blast on the river. From my experiences, both Clint and Johnny were great guides for us. Johnny was extremely patient with Rob and teaching him how to fish. Watching Rob from the start of the day to the end of the day and watching Johnny teach him how to fly fish was personally my favorite part. When he landed that fish, there was so much excitement between us three. I think something only like fishing can do that for grown men. I know I was screaming like a kid on Christmas morning. You guys not only put us on fish all day, but were a lot of fun to be around. Not to mention the lunch and brats were outstanding.

We loved the lodge as well. The rooms were beyond our expectations, well at least mine because I had never stayed there before. The little breakfast room and continental breakfast is a great thing for your guests. That really helped us get ready for the day on the water. I think this sets you guys apart from anyone else around.

All day today we have been talking about planning a trip next year already. Maybe even one in the fall as well to get into some salmon.

Once again, thank you so much for your hospitality all weekend. Please thank Johnny as well for us. See you guys again!

We've come here for several years to canoe and have fun with our friends. We rent all of the rooms for our weekend trip. Our group really likes the hot tub, fire pit, and breakfast room for hanging out and relaxing. The rooms are large, comfortable, and clean. The person who cleaned at least three of our rooms was so thorough that she *apparently* went into purses and wallets that were zipped into suitcases and cleaned them out while we were out on the river. I didn't like the attitude or response we got. There was no other plausible explanation. It ruined the rest of our group's trip.

Response from redmooselodge, Owner at Red Moose Lodge

We have been happy to have you and your group visit the Red Moose Lodge for the last few years. We apologize that you believe someone on our staff went into your wallets and purses but that simply is untrue and is comletely unfounded. The cleaning person we had at that time was questioned by us and the police thouroughly and was found to be completely innocent of the charges your group was alleging. That employee is no longer empoloyed by us as she has moved to another city but we were glad to have had her employed here and had absolutely no other issues with her during her employment with us and quite frankly, did not expect we would. Your review saddens us greatly. There are many other explanations for your alleged missing money. It was just easier to blame a stranger than look elsewhere as we, and the police agree, you probably should. We hope that the next venue you choose for your yearly canoe trip meets your expectations and that you are as happy with those accomodations as you have been with ours.

I have stayed at other places but this is FAR better than any other place in the FlyFishing area. From now on this is the only place I will stay but it was full so next time I am going to call ahead.
The people who own it are great and answered all my questions. I loved the lodge look of log and quilts with all kinds of Breakfast stuff. I plan on bringing the kids up to Kayak and Canoe.
All I can say is this is the BEST Place hands down in Baldwin and all the surrounding area. You will have a great time...............Also loved the Hot Tub!

My husband and I and our two dogs planned a road trip in Michigan for Memorial weekend in May. We wanted to start our trip in a place close to home and where we could walk our dogs in the early morning and evening. This place was perfect. Not only did the dogs love it, but the owner told me where she walked every morning and hinted it was quiet and there would be no traffic -- it turned out to be a nature walk down to the river's edge. They gave us advice on where to eat: again, just right. We had a wonderful start to our trip north -- in fact we hope to do the trip again on the east side of the state, starting, once again, at the Red Moose. If you are looking for a place that's quiet, peaceful, different, clean, friendly, and priced right, the Red Moose is just right!

The Red Moose Lodge has so many ammenities that made my stay very comfortable. I especially enjoyed the continental breakfast. What a great way to end the day in their hot tub and then with a movie from their wide selection of videos that are both free of charge. I almost forgot about the peaceful view of the river while I enjoyed their firepit. My stay there was very enjoyable !

We recently spent two nights at the Red Moose Lodge. It is on the Pere Marquette River and we had come to canoe. It is also on M37, which is a pretty busy road. The room and bathroom were large and very clean. We received fresh towels on the second day, which was a nice surprise. On our way home, I received a call from the owner asking if we took some washcloths. She had received a text message from her housekeeper that washcloths were missing from our room. I assured her that we did not and that the washcloths we had used were on the shower rod. While I was holding on the phone, she walked across the parking lot to our room (this took maybe 40 seconds) and found the washcloths where we had left them. Her response: I will have to yell at my housekeeper.

Per our conversation just now, I sincerely apologize and did not mean to offend you by contacting you to ask where the missing two washcloths might have gone. I never indented to suggest that you might have stolen them. I simply was asking where they might have been placed. I sincerely just wanted to locate them and am glad that we did. It is unfortunate that it seems your stay here was very pleasant per the rest of the written review and that one phone call made you decide to post a negative review about the entire experience here. Again, I sincerely apologize for the phone call. I will make sure to check the rooms for missing items before I contact a customer again about a missing item. My mistake.

We recently stayed for two nights in the Red Moose Lodge. I read a lot of different reviews and I was a little skeptical, but we have not experienced any of the negative reviews I read before. The owners were nice and helpful and explained everything. Wonderful location by a river. Even the lodge is right on a road it was still nice and quiet in the room. The rooms were clean and had some cute touches. Nice landscaping, the option to have a bonfire was nice. We had everything what we needed for breakfast. Plenty to choose from. We had a great time.

Answer from Clint A
nearest trail head is at 32nd street about 4 miles NW of my place the start of the "little O" West of M-37. You can ride the county roads but not the main HWY there from our place. Some find it easier to trailer there. There is many other access points and I will give you a free map when you check in. Thank You Clint
