We used to stay here from 1986 until the owners, Denise and Sue, sold a few years ago. We hadn't been back until this month. We were told the current owners were on vacation in the Bahamas and I'm not sure if what went on, was because of that. We stayed two nights. We had a room with two queens.... More

All by itself 1.5 miles south of Williamstown. Would have been called a motor lodge back in the day--you park just outside your room, of which all are on the first floor. The interior is quaint with wood paneling, but it has modern amenities--cable TV, coffee maker, fridge. Their Wi-Fi was inop, and apparently has been for some time. A... More

We planned an August road trip for a three day two night visit to Williamstown and the Clark Museum. The Williams Inn is overpriced so we stayed in one of the other recommended hostels. Generally the lodging in this area is basic two star accommodations and the 1896 House which had good recommendations was just that - OK at best... More

My husband and I stayed in one of the suites for a nice long weekend visit. The suite was very nice and the Jacuzzi tub was wonderful. It was so nice and relaxing to sit outside. We enjoyed the breakfast and the service was very delightful. Highly recommend a visit.

Although we had booked a reservation for a specific room type, we were not able to stay as planned due to a mis-communication about the type of room available upon our arrival. The receptionist, Kerry, was excellent in immediately offering us other room options, apologies, and the willingness to do whatever she could to resolve the issue (Heather and Christina... More

MA quick getaway Being in the hustle and bustle streets of NYC surely is tiring. Sometimes you wanted just to getaway but not too far. I found 1896 House in Springfield, MA. Surrounded with trees, some squirrels and a very relaxing pond. This hotel has been popular for those going to the Music Festival. The serene and quiet environment will... More

This is one of the greatest places I've ever stayed. I've read some of the negative reviews below and all I have to say is those people are NUTS! From the scenic views to the convenient location and excellent service, this hidden gem is worth checking out!

Me and my husband took the trip to the Berkshires this past weekend and stopped at the 1896 House. The hotel sits on a lovely piece of the property and the rooms are very clean and comfortable. They also have an adjoining pub that is especially welcoming to the weary traveler. I would highly recommend 1896 to stay at if... More

We were expecting a little more than a motel, but having made the reservations online for a cross country trip, we didn't have much choice. I guess we did not realize that this was a Motel right on the Highway. For a Motel, this was nice: clean, comfortable, TV, refrigerator, air conditioned and decent linens. It is not a place... More
