This lovely bed and breakfast on the end of a Harbor is the perfect weekend getaway in an old Whaling wharf building. Brenda couldn't be kinder and she really made us feel at home in her palatial home. The furnishings are grand and comfortable at the same time, the location is warm and peaceful and it is very nearby the New Bedford Whaling Museum and Horseneck Beach. My husband and I loved it and we will be back soon.

What can I say about such a wonderful place such as this? The atmosphere, the food, the warmth of a big fireplace positioned for all to enjoy, the locals, the big porch, the subtle yet well-stocked bar, these all add to a memorable night in New England.

Fortunately, I never had the chance to stay at this Inn. While I booked my room 9 months in advance, I learned from a family member that the innkeeper ("Brenda") was cancelling my reservation because she double-booked the place (the innkeeper didn't contact me to tell me). Then, I noticed that the innkeeper was making additional, unauthorized charges to my credit card. When I inquired about the double-booked/cancelled room and the erroneous charges, the innkeeper became defensive and lashed out at me with name-calling. After about a week of trying to resolve the inexplicable billing situation (while putting aside my incredulity about this innkeeper's cruel personality and/or ineptitude), the innkeeper dug her heels in and insisted we "were even". So I consulted my credit card company, they confirmed she owed me, and they advised I cancel my card and their Fraud Department would take it up with her.

Hello, I am an Innkeeper with many years of experience in the industry, from New Jersey to Newport, Rhode Island to the Berkshires. I have worked in some of the most beautiful Inns and yes some were Select Registry. I came here to help this Inn this summer as a consultant and to grow and change-up some of the most easily fixable issues, some tough ones, train the owner/Brenda whom you mention, to take away the frustration of an antiquated website, and help with training in all aspects of being an Inn. First, this is such a rough review and most definitely hurt the high season of a short New England season and I'm truly sorry about the frustration in what transpired. With the new website that is now up it makes a lot of the problems that happened with your credit card no longer a problem.Yes, it could've perhaps been handled a lot gentler, and Brenda's' frustration was not with you but with the credit card company, and quite frankly clicking the wrong buttons in refunding and then thinking she had refunded and going back and forth charging and refunding. Absolutely, no intention of doing any wrong doing with your card. Complete technical issues. As I earlier wrote, I've been doing this a long time and things happen. Again, I apologize for the utter confusion and unfortunate communication that went between both parties.I would like to extend an offer of coming to visit our inn in 2019, for a night of your choice. You can go to our website to see if there is a room you would prefer. personal favorites are on the second floor facing the harbor. We hope to see you next year! Have a wonderful upcoming holiday season! Kindest regards, Management

1. Innkeeper Brenda cancelled my 8-month old reservation, six weeks prior to my family’s August event, saying that there was a schedule conflict with a wedding. She claimed she thought I was part of the wedding party, even though she had written on my reservation confirmation that the stated purpose for my stay was a nearby family reunion. 2. Innkeeper made two unauthorized charges to my credit card, one 5 months after my initial reservation and one, after she had fully refunded our charges, just a few weeks ago. Despite clear charts of payments provided by me, she insisted that she needed to charge me once again, and did so with no authorization. This final charge was not refunded until I notified her that my credit card company was initiating a fraud investigation. 3. Innkeeper’s communications re: the cancellation and refunds was unclear and unprofessional. She conflated my account and reservation with that of my son’s family – a separate reservation and credit card. She was unsuccessful in articulating a clear message about our finances, despite charts of payments and refunds each of us provided her. At moments she became emotional, stating to my son that he is an angry man and that she was glad he would not be staying at her inn. I have paperwork to confirm all of the above. I do not recommend this place to anyone, and I would caution travelers to be aware that their reservation is not secure.

Hello Lorrie, I am an Innkeeper with many years of experience in the industry, from New Jersey to Newport, Rhode Island to the Berkshires. Things have definitely changed since I've come onboard as the old booking system was just not working for this particular Inn. Booking has become much simpler with less chance of overbooking. Also, an event person has been put in place so there is no longer confusion as to who are guests of a wedding party This is such a rough review and most definitely hurt the high season of a short New England season and I'm truly sorry about the frustration in what transpired. With the new website that is now up it makes a lot of the problems that happened with your credit card no longer a problem.Yes, it could've perhaps been handled a lot gentler, and Brenda's' frustration was not with you but with the credit card company, and your refund did not happen because of credit card company procedures as that is just another step a credit card company does automatically and out of owners control. There was full intention of refunding, but it's just timely steps.Brenda truly got confused as to did she refund or not? and quite frankly clicking the wrong buttons in refunding and then thinking she had refunded and going back and forth charging and refunding. Was this all unclear and unprofessional? No doubt. As I earlier wrote, I've been doing this a long time and things happen. I have stayed here a couple of times. The place is an old building. The price for the rooms are outrageously high for sparse, uncomfortable close quarters. You can hear EVERYTHING from your room. There is no security for your belongings. Anyone can just walk in your room. So bring secure luggage or leave valuable locked in the trunk of your car. The Bathrooms are out dated and the owner leaves her personal toiletries in them. The owner is totally off the wall. She is often 3 sheets to the wind. She is rude and condescending. There is no A/C. While there you feel like your walking on eggshells. will NEVER stay at this relic turned flop house again.

Hello, I know this is a very old review, but as new management with years of being an Innkeeper from New Jersey to Newport, RI, to the Berkshires I'd like to address some of your misgivings about staying at an Inn where whaling ships were built and Herman Melville, Moby Dick, walked in to be sure he was getting fair prices from Isaac Cory. Where the New Bedford Whaling Museum is now host to most of the memorabilia of this home. This is not a relic, this is history. Today, we have a new website, we are freshly painted inside (outside to happen in the spring 2019), all rooms have locks on the doors, the bathrooms are spotless and no personal items have been left anywhere, and most days you can find this artist (the owner) painting in her studio in New Bedford. There is no A/C but honestly, the breeze from the ocean and the new in-out fans we installed this past summer the guest have loved. No complaints. Hearing room-to-room is extremely common in Inns. There are Inns rated 4.5 that guest have complained they can hear their neighbors. Welcome to the world of Inns and BnB's. I'm sorry you did not enjoy your stay and hopefully you'll give our website another look and perhaps come see us in the summer of 2019! Kindest regards, Management
