Detailed Reviews
This was my first time at the lodge, and I had passed it many times at my stays at the Cape this summer, and I’m sorry I didn’t check into this hotel sooner. The property is very misleading from 680. It appears that it has been re-furbished and that they have gone through a lot of cost to make the pool areas really nice! I see areas because there is an indoor pool and an outdoor pool, but due to Covid, the indoor is closed but it is large. It’s set up very nicely with the rooms surrounding the pool double Dekker with the bottom floor having access with sliding glass doors. The outside pool has the same pebble decking as the entire inside pool area which is pleasing to the feet and is not slippery. There’s a safety gate and brand new deck chairs to lay down. We were not able to receive any emails from them during Covid however your room has a magic chef refrigerator, and a small microwave which was very helpful. The facility was clean throughout. The rugs and paint inside the room were updated. The AC in the room is new as well and operates well. There’s a BBQ grill and table in the back so if you catch some fish, it can be eaten Fresh. The staff were all friendly in the Office. My only small complaints weren’t addressed to the office only bc I didn’t choose to have workers in my room. The staff should tell maintenance when something isn’t right in the room. It’s within their realm of responsibility.

I've typically stayed at the Sandwich Lodge & Resort in the past as this property was maintained in a better-than-average state and its excellent location. Aside from a few deteriorated finishes: peeling paint on the bathroom ceiling for example, the room was in decent shape. Of surprise to me, we the condition of the bed linens. The top cover was so soiled, it actually stunk of body odor. I ended up removing it, folded it up and placed it on the floor. I would also recommend washing the pillows now and again. It's obvious, at least in this room, that clean bed linens are not the priority. I was also surprised that I had to request room service from the front desk and wasn't advised about it at check in. I'm sure I'll return to the SL&R because of its reasonable price and location. I would however suggest you bring you own linens just in case.
Lastly, Parking around Rooms 140 thru 144 is difficult if you have a full size SUV or pickup. The corner parking space is not useable if a large sized vehicle is parking in an adjacent spot.

Richard C, I am sorry to be reading this on a review. I do wish you had called the FrontDesk and we could have resolved your issue with the bedding or changed your room. Due to Covid we are unable to service a room unless it is requested each morning. This was in your confirmation email and also mentioned on our website where you booked the reservation. Sad to read when you say you will be back.

We love the Cape off-season and this is the perfect place to stay. It is centrally located to the Canal, beaches, the boardwalk, shopping, museums. The rooms have a small refrigerator and microwave which is great when you want to relax and just pick up something easy to heat and eat. A Stop and Shop is almost across the street (don't worry--it's not a commercial area) so you can pick up something to heat and eat in your room or down at the tables by the pool. The continental breakfast is much more than what it sounds like... Batter and waffle irons to make your own waffles, scrambled eggs and sausage, bagels, toast, pastries, dry cereals, instant oatmeal, fresh fruit, yogurt..... Our room (#131) has been recently remodeled and although simple, was spacious and clean. The staff is always pleasant and courteous, and the front desk is attended 24 hours a day.
The pool area is spacious with ping pong and pool tables. There are rooms that open to the pool which is great for families, but because that area tends to be a little noisy, you might want want to be further away. This was our second stay here, and we will be back.

We made a reservation via the motels website at a military discounted rate of 118.00 per night which We choose due to my son who is in the Air Force was traveling with us and actually made the reservation. Without that discount the rate would have been 124.00. For such a small discount had I known the complications it would cause I wouldn’t have bothered. When Checking in the receptionist handed me a bill for $185.00. I explained that it was incorrect and showed her the confirmation that was emailed. She then asked my son if he was traveling on orders (he was not) she then informed us that the military rate did not apply. Ridiculous but whatever. She didn’t ask that prior to producing a bill for $63 more than stated on the confirmation. We explained that the next rate offered when the reservation was made was $124 but she was unable to find it and apparently expected me to pay $185. When she realized we would be taking our business elsewhere she came up with a rate of $135. Not wanting to deal with finding another place at 9 pm we accepted the rate however we won’t ever be returning.
If you don’t want to offer a military discount just don’t offer it. What your going is just short of bait and switch.
How do they accept payment via their online system, issue a confirmation and then present a bill for a substantially higher amount ?
I won’t even get in to talking about the room itself. Suffice it to say it was dated, poorly laid out and damp.
I strongly recommend avoiding this motel as there are many fine establishments in the area that would actually appreciate your business.

When you booked you selected the Government rate. This is from our website: Government Rate Government/Military Rate - Official ID & Travel Orders Required upon check-in. Deposit Policy: All Reservations Require Credit Card Deposit of 1 night of stay due at time of booking. Cancellation Policy: Reservations must be changed or cancelled 7 day prior to arrival. We offer a Government rate for the many Military personnel who travel here due to our proximity to Joint Base Cape Cod and the USCG Station Cape Cod Canal. Most hotels do as Government personnel travel on orders routinely for various assignments and during duty station transfers. That rate is a set per diem from the Government. There certainly was no "bait and switch". As you can see above, the website clearly states that by selecting the Government rate you will have to provide certain information. I was searching for the best rate to offer you as I could not find the rate that you quoted having seen, I have to have something in print to go by.

I was there for NH school vacation and my first time in Sandwich (usually stay further on Cape). I loved this place for many reasons. The owners and front desk staff are very friendly and hospitable. We arrived early (kids wanted to go swimming) and they allow early check in for a small fee. I was very happy with size of room (being honest it was very reasonable priced) since room was definitely extra spacious. The game room, indoor pool, jacuzzi and pool table and ping pong table were enough to keep everyone occupied. The continental breakfast had quite a selection. There is definitely way too much to list and something for everyone (even the picky eaters). Great resort at a great price and I will definitely stay here again.

Thank you for your review! So happy you found us - Sandwich also has a lot to offer families - especially as the weather warms up! You'll want to explore Town Neck Beach, the tide pools, the Boardwalk, & some of our fresh water ponds may appeal to you as well. The Canal is popular for fishing, walking. riding and for the runner. Don't miss the Canal Visitor Center and museum. Many great local restaurants offer a wide range of choices and there are all sorts of fun shops - Shop Local! We look forward to having your family return. After Memorial Day we will have our outdoor pool open, the BBQ, shuffleboard, horse shoe pits and lots of room in the field for the kids to play.

since our last visit bathrooms have been updated. They were power washing the front and it looked great. They could not serve breakfast or clean the rooms so we ended up going to front desk to get towels & stuff for the room. Would have been nice to get a 10% discount on our stay for what we did not get. One of the desk staff seemed like he really didn't want to be there. At the end when checking out had to tell him about stuff needed fixing in the room and he rolled his eyes as he appeared to type something in to the computer. Thought he would print me a receipt, when he did not I expected an email copy. Which I have not gotten. Will have to call for one I guess. Overall Clean facilities in a great location for our visit.

My wife and I found the front desk staff very friendly and always helpful. The room was spacious and the indoor swimming pool, hot tub, breakfast and beds were all excellent. The room price was reasonable and the location was within walking distance of a large grocery store, restaurants and a pharmacy. Will definitely consider staying there again when we visit friends who live in the area!

Nice place in a nice location for a nice price. The room was very modern, beds were comfortable. Housekeeping was amazing. This is the first place I’ve stayed at in awhile where everything was wiped down, clean, supplies stocked carpet clean and no dust in areas that typically get overlooked. I will definitely book again. The breakfast could be a little better and the outdoor pool should be opened a little later at least for adults.

Thank you for posting such a lovely review and we look forward to having you stay with us again. We are open year round, including the indoor pool and hot tub.

While visiting Boston & Martha’s Vineyard we enjoyed a stay at this comfortable resort. Check in staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and clean. Beds and pillows were pleasant. We did have some issues with the TV remote & hair dryer. However, when management was notified, we received immediate assistance and resolve for the issue. I find most places are receptive to being told when things are out of order so they can attend to them for you. We really loved the indoor pool & Hot Tub area. It was spacious and bright with availability for ping pong and pool tables. The hot breakfast was held in a bright room and was simple but well presented. It looked like this resort had many more amenities to offer a customer during the warmer months. If you travel with children, this would be a wonderful place to stay with them.

The name of the location is very deceiving. Just because it has a pool inside, it does not make it a resort. The room was pretty big, but very sparse. Basic florescent lighting was the norm. The feel of the room and overall was an upscale motel. It was a little musty, bit it did seem that is was really clean and the value for a place to sleep is there.
Because of COVID, there were no amenities. No food, ice, no vending, nothing. They have public restrooms along the hallways and public washing and drying machines. That is why it felt like an extended stay motel.
If you want the bells and whistles that you think that a resort should have, do NOT book. IF you want a bed at a decent price, this just might be where you will want to stay.

Dear Bill, Thank you for your review. I am not sure what you meant about the fluorescent lighting. I believe the only fluorescent light is above the bathroom sink. Yes, the rooms seem sparse right now - we had to strip them down in order to open under the Covid 19 mandates put forth by the State of MA. While you only saw the indoor pool, outside the confines of Covid we also have an arcade, breakfast room where continental breakfast was offered pre-covid, Ping pong, pool table, the hot tub, outdoor pool, outdoor games and BBQ area. We are waiting to hear when we will be able to open these amenities again. I'm glad to hear that you found it to be clean and comfortable. We hope that you will stay again when visiting Cape Cod.
