Detailed Reviews
We are locals from Boston. This is actually our second stay at the Yankee Clipper Inn in 2 weeks— we love staying here! My husband discovered it for our anniversary. We stayed a couple nights in June, and three nights in July. Both excellent stays. We then booked a couple nights for my parents, as well. And we plan to return as soon as we are able! Ocean-lovers who enjoy historical B&Bs will be enchanted by this place. The rooms are spotless, with extra measures like social distancing, masks required inside (except for your room), UV light treatment, disinfection, and ventilation in the rooms between guests. Staff serving breakfast wear gloves and masks. We appreciated the measures the staff are taking to protect against COVID transmission while keeping the customer service excellent and friendly. You won’t see all the fancy duvets and throw pillows in the room photos featured on their website because ALL the bedding is washed, but we were more comfortable with this safety measure. The beds are super comfy, and I can’t tell you how absolutely wonderful it was to fall asleep to the sound of the ocean waves. The included breakfast is simple but delicious, with an absolutely stunning view of the ocean. The pool is refreshing after a sunny day of stretching out on your pick of lawn chairs scattered around the scenic grounds and gardens overlooking the ocean. Across the bay from the Inn, one can see the iconic Bear Skin Neck jutting out into the ocean, which is especially magical as the sun sets and distant lights begin to twinkle. After sunset, on a cloudless night, we had the opportunity to enjoy the phenomenon of a blood moon rising over the marine horizon and then stargazing from the lawn. The Inn is a 10 minute drive from Good Harbor beach ($30 for day parking, and non-residents of Gloucester should plan to get there early), walking distance to Front Beach, and less than a 15 minute drive to downtown Gloucester or Rockport where lovely shops and eateries abound. Out of towners, bring layers of clothing. New England in the summer is lovely, but occasionally chilly breezes can pick up off the coast. July and August are the best times to visit, but we would come back to the Yankee Clipper Inn anytime of year.
Other notes: either plan to eat out other than breakfast or bring a cooler to keep cold food/drink fresh as there are no fridges or microwaves in the rooms. Grocery stores are nearby. We are familiar with the rooms called “Sovereign of the Seas” and “Volunteer”. Both are on the 3rd floor. Sovereign of the Seas has a private deck. Volunteer has a huge gorgeous deck with truly an amazing view, but it is a shared deck. We love the creaky stairs. They host events here too, and what a beautiful setting it is!

My husband and I just spent two nights at the Yankee Clipper Inn to celebrate our anniversary. We stayed in the Bullfinch House, which is across a narrow road from the main part of the Inn. We were in Room 2 and stepping inside was like being hugged by my grandmother - lovely wallpaper, antique furniture and a bright, well equipped bathroom with a big closet. The room even has an ironing board and iron! The innkeeper was very friendly and helpful. The delicious breakfast is freshly made to order and served in the main inn building in a beautiful room with windows all around looking out to the ocean. The Yankee Clipper is in a great, quiet location, around a 5 minute drive or 15-20 minute walk to downtown Rockport. I highly recommend staying there and hope to come back soon.

I wanted a brief (4 days) holiday from my 3 month self-quarantine and Yankee Clipper Inn fit the bill. The waterfront location was a big attraction for me, so I booked the Red Jacket room with it's indoor sun porch an abutting outdoor balcony overlooking the bay. The sound of the waves breaking against the rocky shore was so peaceful. The inn is fairly large including a pretty landscaped area between inn and the ocean. There is an outdoor pool. There are a lot of pool chairs around the property and a pretty gazebo overlooking the ocean. Mike the owner couldn't have been nicer and he was assisted in the kitchen by Pete who cooked up some nice breakfast meals. Due to the pandemic, staff wasn't entering the rooms unless requested by the guests, so Mike would include a request sheet with the breakfast menu where you could request restock on water, towels, paper goods, etc. which were left at your door when requested. Mike is one of those hosts who is eager to share his suggestions for places to go or eat and supplied me with a few good suggestions. Speaking for myself, the proximity to and view of the ocean were the biggest pluses. I was on the porch or balcony for most of my stay. I would (and will) go back.

The Clipper is a long time favorite of ours and we have visited many times, staying in many of the wonderful rooms. The location cannot be beat, with unobstructed ocean on two sides. There isn't a more relaxing place with the sublte sound of waves crashing on the rocks always in the background. Many of the porches are very private with stunning ocean views. Sunrises over the ocean are spectacular, as is the moon. Pete makes an amazing omelette, and the breakfast by the ocean is one of our favorite attractions. During this time of the pandemic, they have stepped up efforts to protect guests and the entire town of Rockport is taking it very seriously. Everything at the Clipper is touchless, clean, and my wife and I feel very safe. We love the charm and antiques.

We stayed for three nights in July. Peter, the chef/assistant manager was an excellent host. He gave us the best restaurant recommendations that truly made a great trip even better.
As a chef, Peter puts his heart in his craft, the blueberry pancakes were the best we’ve ever had!
We stayed in the storied Flying Cloud room, with breathtaking views of sunrise from the balcony.
The grounds are immaculately kept with chairs and tables set up around the property to allow for a relaxing glass of wine and ocean sounds.
Thanks to Mike and his staff for a memorable time.

We have just returned from a fantastic trip to Rockport, MA. We stayed at The Yankee Clipper Inn. It is a Great B&B with THE BEST staff that we have ever had the pleasure of staying with. We checked in with Peter, who is also an amazing chef. He was so inviting and pleasant, that we ended up talking with him for about 20 minutes before we even headed up to Ariel (our room). We had a great view of the ocean from inside the room and balcony (1st picture, looking out to the Adirondack Chairs we spent many hours in, when we weren't out experiencing all of Rockport and Cape Ann in general. Mike is the man that leads this wonderful staff. We were especially impressed with Claire and Paul, our servers every morning for our included, made to order breakfast. The housekeeping staff were quick to supply our room with anything that we requested (extra towels, toiletries). The grounds are beautifully maintained with gardens and many places to relax and enjoy the ocean breezes and views of Cape Ann. We saw many of the hardworking lobstermen pulling their pots and enjoyed the best lobster rolls that we ever had when we went into town at Roy Moore's (Bearskin Neck). I will close with a reference to those Adirondack Chairs in the attached photos... the best seats on the property!!! Thank you Mike and Staff for a great time at The Yankee Clipper! We were looking to get away from work and relax. You ALL made for a great experience! We will be back!

We stayed in the Ariel room in the Yankee Clipper Inn. The large, comfy room is on the top floor, and the views are fantastic and never-ending. There is a in-room Keurig provided, as well as shower gel and shampoo, which is a nice touch. I felt right at home there. The Inn is within walking distance to downtown Rockport and Bear Skin Neck shopping and restaurants. The provided daily breakfast is delicious, especially the pancakes. The vintage property is well kept and decorated nicely. Inn keeper Mike couldn't have been friendlier. We will return!

The property is at a great location with nice view and historical stories. However, the property itself need renovation. The room was pretty fluffy and not that clean. The sink in the bathroom had some issues and the water can’t flow properly. The door was hard to open and the water flowed out from the shower had a very small stream. I expect it to be better maintained from all of the great reviews I read before I came and for the price I paid.

Thanks for staying with us and your nice review. I apologize for the sink issue you experienced. We brought out a plumber after your check-out when I was unable to completely fix the sink and found that a previous guest stuffed a hair scrunchie down the drain which understandably would have caused issues. Our rooms are cleaned and sanitized and a UV light in each room for 30 minutes before each check-in to further sanitize and protect our patrons Be safe nd Have a great summer!

For a $400 a night room (3 night minimum no less), this is a seriously basic room. Although they have contactless check in, none of the staff wear masks inside and don’t expect your room to be serviced.
There is not one picture on the walls, minimal furniture, tiny bathroom and no housekeeping. How do they justify that when there is no evidence that they care about Covid protocol unless it’s to save them money? The manager is unfriendly and seriously unhelpful. The heat in our room doesn’t work because the people upstairs are running the
A/C on the same circuit. It can’t run heat and cool at the same time. It’s October and the temp will go down to 52 degrees tonight. The manager brought a space heater and basically that’s that 😡
The breakfast was awful and you can have only one filling for your omelet… ham OR cheese, not both! Don’t bother .. we will pay for a good breakfast in town instead.
The only thing this place has going for it are the views … gorgeous. That said, there are so many other places to stay in Rockport and Gloucester. Don’t waste your money here!

Thank you for staying with us, however I feel your review is very unfair! I do apologize that you did not find our property to your satisfaction! You arrived to complete your contactless check in and no less than five times called me directly with questions Within 20 minutes of arriving at the property without reading the welcome letter that was inside your envelope. I was more than happy to answer all your questions and there’s no way was ever rude to you. Almost all of our guests are very happy with the accommodations, breakfast, and our wonderful staff and certainly understand that in current times with Covid somet of our services are limited. We are in compliance with all CDC guidelines and my staff is fully vaccinated, therefore, there is no requirement for us to wear masks.I do apologize for the fact that we had to provide a portable heater for your room due to the fact that That other guests that were sharing your condenser were on air conditioning since it was 70° during the day and got into the high 50s at night which most people wouldn’t find cold. I again apologize that you didn’t find our property to your satisfaction,

My 4yo daughter and I had a chance for a quick getaway by ourselves. We were able to book Room #4 in the Bulfinch house which is located across the street from the main property. The house is a beautiful 19th century house with antique furnishings. Our room was at the top of the stairs and while it had antique furniture, it had all the modern conveniences: HDTV, A/C, wifi, an extremely comfortable bed, and an updated shower with excellent water pressure. The house has a full kitchen and living room downstairs for guests to use at their leisure. The inn was very clean and we felt right at home.
Breakfast was a short walk across the street (mind the speeding cars, typical for New Englanders that are always driving fast). However, our crossings did not feel dangerous and cars did stop for us at the crosswalk. The main lobby, which is next has an early 20th century look with gorgeous mahogany wood and a beautiful fireplace. Off of the main room is a dining area full of windows and a breathtaking, panoramic view of the ocean. The waitresses were kind. We had Claire both days and she was very sweet to my 4yo. The chef came out to make sure the 4yo enjoyed the custom made chocolate chip pancake and bacon. For myself, the eggs were delicious and cooked perfectly.
The grounds have plenty of space to sit and enjoy the view. There was also an outdoor swimming pool which we did not utilize this time as it was a bit on the cool side. Bearskin Neck is about a 15-20 minute walk. We chose to drive because that was a bit for my 4yo to navigate on top of all of the other hiking and walking we were doing but had I been with my husband, we most definitely would have walked it. In the other direction is easy access to Halibut Point State Park, another beautiful hiking area.
Lastly, it wouldn't be right to leave a review and not mention Mike, the general manager. Mike was kind, courteous, and knowledgable. He greeted everyone that came past him and had a genuinely kind demeanor. Like many places, the treatment of guests goes a long way and you won't find nicer staff anywhere.
I will definitely return here for a stay, perhaps a couples getaway next time.
