Detailed Reviews
We were traveling from Boston through Western Massachusetts and stayed at the Trainmasters Inn one night. The inn was creatively decorated with period pieces, the bed/room (#2) we stayed in was very comfortable,, and the affiliated restaurant, Steaming Tender, was great (and a short walk - housed in a renovated train depot). Location was just under 15 miles from the Ware-Hardwick Covered Bridge, one of the many "must-see" stops on a leaf viewing trip!

I enjoyed the very comfortable accommodations in this lovely inn with interesting train-related decor and antiques. We stayed in room 4, which comprised a bedroom, sitting room, and large bathroom. The rooms are located upstairs, with the bedroom at the front of the building facing busy South Main Street. The road noise was a bit problematic for me (but not my spouse) until it quieted down between 2 am and 5 am. Wearing ear plugs or getting a room at the back of the building (room 5, I believe) might help. The room rates were surprisingly low. The innkeeper was very welcoming. With her blessing, we stored leftover pizza in the common area refrigerator where chilled breakfast items are stored for guests. The next morning we found that our pizza was gone, although the zippered storage bag (empty except for crumbs) was left behind. Apparently, other guests mistook our unlabeled pizza for part of the hospitality (I'm still laughing about this). The innkeepers run the nearby (walking distance) Steaming Tender Restaurant and bar in a gorgeous restored historic train station. The food was excellent, especially the whiskey bread pudding, which is their signature dessert for good reason. I give both establishments my highest rating because I enjoyed them both immensely and plan to return to both. The restaurant is not open 7 days a week, so that is something to plan around.

We enjoyed 3 nights in room 3, a king suite on the second floor facing the street. The room is quite large with a small sitting area off to the side. We were never bothered by outside noise. Super comfy bed with generous pillows and linens! Easy to use thermostat, TV with plenty of channels, and this room has three generously-sized closets! More closet space than many homes we’ve looked at recently! The bathroom is very nice. Plenty of hot water, soft towels, hair dryer, vent and a small heater for those cooler nights. Parking in the rear is a nice bonus.
Breakfast includes a nice muffin and a Kuerig coffee maker with great coffee pods, or you can bring your own.
What really stands out in this B&B are the owners…They are just so nice and easy to talk to. And we enjoyed meeting Karen who took care of our needs.
Kudos to a charming place, and wonderful owners and staff!

Inn in an older home. Nice restoration with clean spacious rooms and comfortable beds..The steps to the second floor are quite steep compared to modern stairs. There was a nice breakfast of fruit, muffins and yogurt with coffee and tea (Keurig)
The wifi password didn't work for "Trainmasters" and the "Trainmasters guest" wifi didn't work at all. Fortunately I had a strong data connection and could use a hotspot.

Loved the property and the train theme. We booked the engineer’s suite which was impeccably clean and quite roomy but at a very reasonable price. We were easily able to self check in and the owners left us muffins and beverages. So much more than I was expecting!

This inn is comfortable and pleasant, and on that basis I would recommend it to anyone visiting or passing through Palmer.
But let's face it: this is THE place to stay if you're a train buff here to explore the history and to see the remaining railroad infrastructure of a place once known as the "Town of 7 Railroads."
Although we travel for many different reasons, we do very much enjoy riding trains and also learning about their history. We had never visited Palmer, so it was interesting and enjoyable to be there, especially staying at the railroad-themed Trainmasters Inn, where the innkeepers are long-time active supporters of ongoing efforts to rebuild/restore/promote interest in the town's railroad history, perhaps as a way of improving Palmer's tourist infrastructure as a matter of both civic pride and economic benefit. If so, there is plenty to work with here, and the inn, located in a restored historic building, takes good advantage of it through its name and decor.
We had a one-night stay in room #5, on the second floor right at the back of the inn, so it was very quiet, and we awakened refreshed to continue our journey. Railroad memorabilia, including some great old photos, could be found everywhere, even in our bathroom. And there is a comfy seating area in the upstairs hallway that has a treasure trove of railroad and train literature on hand, should guests want to look through it in that nice spot near the top of the stairs or take it to their rooms to enjoy in privacy.
We had a good stay here. Besides the comfy, attractive ambience, we liked being able to walk downtown to enjoy amenities like restaurants and cafes, antique shops, a beautiful new library, and a small but wonderful model train store. .
Recommended.

My husband, son and I had an enjoyable stay at at this Inn! The rooms were very clean and the beds are extremely comfortable. The Steaming Tender restaurant, a short walk from the Inn, is housed in a beautiful, historic train station. Their food was tasty. My family would definately stay here again!

My wife and I chose to spend a night at the Train Masters Inn to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. It was a very pleasant stay in the beautifully renovated and decorated old inn. Our room was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed coffee and muffins in the breakfast nook, and had fun playing games of dominoes that were provided. A passing train rattled the picture on the wall above our bed and woke me, but that was part of the whole experience!

We decided to stay here after having a marvelous dinner at the Steaming Tender restaurant, which is associated with the Trainmaster's Inn. The hotel itself is very clean, charming, and filled with interesting railroad historical items. The owners are very friendly as well. However, there was a couple that stayed above us that, for reasons only known to them, tramped around continuously for three solid hours, from 9 p.m. to midnight. After one particularly strong bout of noise that actually rattled pictures on the wall after we had gone to bed, I finally screamed at them to knock it off. They got the hint. I suspect they were doing drugs, why else would anyone walk around constantly for three hours? This would've been a five-star review, but given the lack of sound proofing and floors that transmit every sound to the ceiling below, I am taking off one star. The noise was bad enough to the point where I wouldn't want to take a chance staying there again.

I’m sorry about that- I would have been happy to have tried to resolve the issue by moving you or them. Again I’m very sorry! Robin

I found it very odd that at no time did I meet the innkeeper, Robin. She did email me instructions on the code I needed to open the front door. But I had a lot of problems with breakfast. I had no idea how to use the Keurig coffee maker to make tea. Another guest happened to arrive, and he told me I needed a tea pod to make it work. But there were only coffee pods there. There were a few tea bags, so he suggested I get some water (I had to go to my room to do so since there was no sink in the breakfast room) and heat it up in the microwave. So I did that.
The worst part of breakfast was the orange juice. It tasted bad, and when I smelled it, it had a chemical odor. Obviously, I did not drink it, and I did not try another bottle to see if that was any better. The muffin was very ordinary, not great. I don't like Greek yogurt, so basically all I had was my tea and a few bites of the muffin. I did not return for breakfast my other two mornings.
I wasn't thrilled to have an ADA room (#1), but that was not a big problem. The bed was comfortable, and I was very happy that one of my pillows was fairly flat, which is exactly the way I like it. The inn is very attractive, and I liked seeing all the train memorabilia. Nevertheless, although it did have some good qualities, I will not be returning to this inn. The breakfast was just a great disappointment.
