A wonderful B&B in the beautiful home of Kathy and Craig (and their adorable dog and cat, Thelma & Louise). This little gem is conveniently located on a quiet neighborhood street steps from the rail trail and Florence Center (a village of Northampton), a 5–minute drive to downtown Northampton, and a 15-minute ride to Amherst. Kathy and Craig’s home is warm and welcoming offering guests comfortable and clean rooms, a shared guest living room, a small enclosed porch, a lovely breakfast, and off-street parking. Kathy and Craig are very kind and friendly hosts who make you feel right at home. We’re looking forward to staying with them again in the future!

My husband and I chose the Sugar Maple Inn for its proximity to the Mass Central Rail Trail and we came to the right place for our Fall biking get-away. Craig and Kathy were gracious hosts and fed us tons of information about rail trails and the history of the local area as well as a healthy start to our day with homemade granola, fruit salad, yogurt and fresh muffins. The Inn is charming with biking and railroad memorabilia on display throughout the house and just steps away from a scenic biking adventure into Northampton and across the Connecticut River bridge to Amherst. We look forward to returning in springtime!

I had never been to a bed and breakfast before and overall, I loved this place! Kathy and Craig could not have been more lovely and gracious hosts. Craig even picked me up from the train station. I was particularly fond of their pets, Thelma and Louise, as well. The house is a adorable and well kept. The breakfast we had was great. Kathy goes to town every morning to get the best muffins and pastries from a well known bakery and they're delicious. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the bed was pretty hard, as were the pillows. I don't mean firm - I mean weirdly hard. I can sleep on anything, but even I was a little uncomfortable. It's easy to find relatively inexpensive mattresses and pillows these days, so I'm not sure why they haven't upgraded, but aside from that, my room was perfect. I liked the bathroom and the shower had great water pressure. I would definitely recommend this b n' b 100% if they'd make these changes.

Great B&B on a quiet street, feet away from the bike trail, and minutes away from great restaurants. Craig and Kathy were lovely hosts, and Thelma and Louise (Thelma, a Scottish Terrier, and Louise, a six-toed cat) served as in-house greeters and comfort pets. C & K serve a lovely breakfast of baked goods, yogurt, fresh fruit, juice and coffee. Craig is a font of historical knowledge of the area and of the development of rail-trails in America.

This is the 2nd year in a row we booked with Craig and Kathy. Wonderful time. Great hosts. Craig will tell you everything you didn’t know about railroads and rail trails and then some.

The B&B is right next to the Mass. Central Rail Trail. Bicycle paradise. Couldn’t have a better bicycling experience. And the restaurants in Northampton are great.

While the room was fine (if a trifle "cozy"), we were disappointed in the lack of anything resembling the usual B&B services and amenities. When we returned from a day in Northampton, the hosts were in their living room awaiting the delivery of the pizza they had ordered for dinner; meanwhile our bed had not been made, and the wet towels had not been removed. There was no shampoo. The bathroom was tiny; barely enough room to move around. The host talked about himself too much, and barely asked about our reasons for visiting the area.

The location is perfect if you come to bike. The room was very small and the bathroom needs a thorough cleaning, perhaps a renovations in the shower. Lighting is quite poor up to the second floor, as you cannot turn on a light from the bottom to the top floor. Not really the type of house for a b and b, as one needs to walk through the family room and dining room every time you enter or depart. One of the hosts could not read cues that we simply were not interested in all the intimate details he was willing to share. Breakfasts were perfunctory. If you are a biker, this space in right on the trail. Given the modest accommodations, the price should be significantly reduced.

I’m sorry you were disappointed. The floor plan for the house is prominently displayed on the website and the light switches for the staircase are do glow in the dark as an indicator that they are there. We’ll be upgrading though to an automatic sensor system to come on when people are present. Once again, sorry.

The bedrooms are really small. The queen bed has a mattress pad that has a plastic backing. I took it off because of the noise it made and discovered it was not very clean and had hair all over it. Bad lighting in Queen bedrom. The baths were redone in 2001 but have a very unclean feeling in stall shower. The bathroom rug hadn't been washed in a while.
The owner Craig is overbearing and actually took my bagel from my plate to cut it and place it in the toaster. I don't like people touching my food. He talks too much.

My Partner and son stayed here and the hospitality was great as well as the bike trail. I highly recommend it for a local getaway. Craig and Kathleen are great hosts and you can ride on nostalgic style bikes if you prefer. The surroundings are beautiful and quiet. Enjoy and tell them Wayne, Carol & Sammy sent you!!

Family has stayed here and it is extremely comfortable and friendly . . . for what it is -- a wonderfully restored home, at a perfect location by the rail-trail, just outside Northampton. Definitely not a full-service hotel if that's what one expects. I do like Marriot's yes, but for a nice-change of pace at a unique location (it's right on the rail trail for an invigorating 10 minute ride to or from downtown Northampton), the Sugar Maple is a special treat.

Craig and Kathy welcomed us like family and attended to our needs while supporting our visit and local explorations. A great way to stay near Northampton, ride bikes and enjoy one's visit to this lovely part of the world.
