Tourist is really a full service motel rather than hotel, but who is going to quibble about semantics. It is fairly new, Scandinavian modern, and lovely. The rooms and furniture have the clean lines of Scandy decor; simple but upscale. There is a bar/lounge, and a restaurant that is appropriate for breakfast and lunch; not so much for dinner. There is a saltwater pool as well. We have come to the area three or four times to go to the Clark Art Institute, and we were always disappointed with where we stayed. Tourist solved that problem.

We're so glad you found your home-away-from-home in the Berkshires. It sounds like you didn't have a chance to visit our restaurant and lounge, The Airport Rooms, which is located on our property in a restored 1880s farmhouse, and offers dinner and drinks nightly from 5pm-11pm. Certainly worth a visit next time you're in town, especially as we expand our menu! Hope you'll come back soon and check it out. Cheers! Colleen <c.rafferty@touristswelcome.com>

Hotel's Favorite
I'd been wanting to stay here since I read about the hotel's opening in the NYTimes almost a year ago not just because it looked and sounded fantastic, if a little beyond me hipster, but more b/c I grew up in Pittsfield 30 min to the south. I love to see investment in Berkshire County, especially Northern Berkshire County. So when I had to go to the area recently I was happy to book a room, which I think was a Gallery room. I arrived after dark and found check in. The two women working were enthusiastic and friendly, providing information, a Sunday NYTimes and happily answering questions. One walked me to the room, pointed out the highlights, remotes and lights and told me how to call the desk with any questions. The gathering space off the lobby was inviting and proved a great spot for morning coffee, a yummy gf tea cake and a bit of work. The room itself was a treasure, a respite from the everyday and allowed for a relaxing solo evening. The bed was comfortable beyond measure and I slept clear through the night. The day bed was squishy comfy firm with huge pillows to support newspaper reading. There is not a fridge in the room which I only noticed when I went looking to cool the mini bar wine a bit. This led me to put it outside the courtyard door and noticing there is an outdoor shower there - one of several reasons I'll need to come back in the summer! The floor in the entry way is heated cement and really comfy, especially when you get out of the shower. The shower room has Ursa Major products in it and is very large! The bathroom is equally large and well equipped - the chunks of soap are nicely fragrant, there were plenty of fluffy towels and lots of outlets. I don't really understand the 2nd sink, it seemed extra, but both are nice looking. I was a little skeptical of the plywood finishes, but they work well. Will be curious to see how they hold up over time. There was not a closet or hooks in the room, so no obvious place to hang a coat. Not a big deal. In the desk area, there is a field guide to the area which was really well done. It included local area maps, trails, things to do etc. I had no idea how close it was to the Appalachian Trail and went for a run on the trail in the morning - what a treat. Four deer kept me company! Front desk staff was very pleasant in the morning, checkout was a breeze. There was some kind of coffee training going on which was a great window into the place. The trainer was really knowledgeable and a fun teacher. The staff was engaged, asking questions and happy to learn. Most importantly, management clearly values their staff enough to be sure they have the skills needed to provide great customer service. Stay here. Explore the woods. Enjoy Northern Berkshire County.

We were worried that it would be too sleek and hipster for us--my wife and I with our 21- and 18- year old sons--we were very pleasantly surprised. The rooms and main reception/food/bar/hangout building are cool, quirky, sleek and comfortable in the best of ways. The saline pool is wonderful, the outdoor dining area is magical, with strings of lights and "potted" bonfires. Modern, rustic, Scandinavian is a general description, but photos tell the story much better. The staff is genuinely friendly and helpful and the Airport Rooms restaurant next to the hotel has excellent food and drinks, and an unusually comfortable "living room" feel. We could have spent the whole time on the window seat/daybed in the room looking out the glass wall at the woods. We'll have to go back and stay longer.

A boutique hotel in an unlikely location. Visit for the museums nearby (MassMOCA, The Clark Museum); the fantastic hiking nearby (Mount Greylock, Hoosuc Range, Cascades); but even better, find a lover and don't even leave the hotel! They will provide for everything, from delicious food and excellent coffee, to a great pool, to small lights in each room for a nighttime ramble - they've thought of everything. Don't miss the chime chapel, or the Tourists Radio - the best mood music courtesy of Mr. Stirrat. Find a reason to visit Tourists!
