Detailed Reviews
This is by far the best Inn I have experienced on the East coast. The Federal House Inn is beautiful and the family is friendly and helpful. On top of all of this, then there is our breakfast. I can not even begin to put in words how phenomenal the gourmet level of food and presentation was. This was a wonderful experience all around.

We had a wonderful weekend at the Federal House Inn. We like that Lee is a real town but right next to the very genteel Berkshire towns. We took a great hike just beyond Lee and stopped at the Outlet Stores to great success on our way back. The Inn, well, you’ve heard about the breakfasts? Cannot emphasize how delicious, sumptuous, generous and creative the breakfasts were, all three courses. We never needed lunch. The place is beautifully appointed. Welcoming sitting room and afternoon tea/happy hour brought everyone together. We started out in a nice but unrenovated room but due to some mechanical difficulties (that room has since been renovated) we were moved to the big front room and it was perfect in every detail. Great four poster bed, excellent mattress, beautiful lighting and a bottle of wine left for us. The family is warm and giving, the kids studying in the kitchen but quick to help out. It was a great stay! Highly recommend!

The place is lovely and I would stay there again. The amazing thing was the my husband became critically during our stay/. Marcia and Ken, the owners took us to the emergency room. They then picked me up 5 hours later and helped me make arrangement to get my husband safely to a hospital in NYC. The kindness was not to be surpassed. They gave me a wonderful breakfast before i left. They even checked to see how my husband was doing.

Ken and I think of you both all the time. We prayed hard for a quick and complete recovery and we still pray that all is well. It was a very exciting visit for us....feel free to come back and be boring next time. But if you want excitement...the Andersen ambulance has gas in the tank and we can handle it. Love to you both! Very nicely appointed rooms combine with a delightful welcome by owners, Marcia and Ken Anderson, where eight high school friends just gathered for a four day reunion in the Berkshires: Perfect location from which to enjoy Jacob's Pillow, Tanglewood, The Mount, Clark Institute, the Rockwell Museum, and MORE! We enjoyed stunning roses in each room, and on the breakfast tables! Breakfasts are so good that we all asked for printed recipes, especially for Marcia's baked goods. Guests are welcome to take along bottled water from the guest frig. Wine and cheese and homemade cookies each evening added to the ambiance, in the living room or lovely front porch.

We just got back from a 3 night stay here. This was one of the most relaxing and pampered trips we have ever taken! (And we have taken many!!)
The innkeepers, Marcia and Ken are incredible! They make you feel at home, and pamper and take care of your every need. The breakfast is delicious, such as banana bread French toast, outrageous brown sugar bacon, fresh fruit, poached pears, etc.
Everything is plated and fresh to perfection!
Our room was large, clean and comfy. We had "Comphy" sheets, and the bed was the best bed I ever slept in! There was a large bathroom too!
The place is kept spotless, they have games, wifi, tv, and a front porch with rocking chairs. I
We had a wonderful time and highly recommend Federal House Inn!! We will be back!!

My wife and I enjoyed 6 fabulous nights at the Federal House in mid-October 2016. The new owners Ken and Marsha are outstanding hosts who make everyone feel at ease and welcome. We stayed 4 of the 6 nights in the Hurlbut suite, a spacious and comfortable room on the second floor with pleasant views to the south and east. The evening happy hours (from 5:30 until just about whenever) were reliably fun and lively. Breakfasts are excellent and substantial enough that my wife and I skipped lunch every day. And the hosts bend over backwards to please their guests. As fine a B&B experience as we've ever had. Only downside is flaky wi-fi.

Thank you both so much. You were such a delight to have in the inn and it was wonderful to have you celebrate your anniversary with us...we are very honored! We keep upgrading our wifi and will continue to do so. We had a long spell just prior to your visit where it seemed to be great but then that's when it will act up. We shall continue to tweak it. We are already looking forward to seeing you both next year. Thanks again for the review.

+1
My wife and I stayed at The Federal House Inn for 3 nights Labor Day Weekend. From the moment we checked in we knew the weekend would be special. Brian and Colleen were excellent hosts. They provided complimentary wine and cheese every afternoon, great recommendations for activities and restaurants and served the best gourmet breakfasts. Coffee, tea and chocolates were available 24/7. They truly took a genuine interest in making sure guests had a great time. The Inn is in a great location close to shopping, hiking, museums, restaurants and Tanglewood. Rooms (and bathrooms) were spotless. I highly recommend the Federal House Inn.

W e stayed here 6 mos ago but I didn't get a chance to review the Inn til now. Our room was upstairs in the back of the house and was not terribly well decorated or inviting. The bathroom was small and uncomfortable with cheap shampoo and soap.
The most disappointing part of our stay was the breakfast. The portions were ridiculously small and my husband and I left hungry. There was a tiny portion of fruit cup served first and nothing memorable was served after that.
What was not tiny was the cost of one night, mid winter, to stay here. It was $165 plus tax.
We have stayed in many B and B's over the years and this is NOT one we will ever return to.

Response from federalhouseinn, Owner at Federal House Inn
Responded Aug 25, 2013
We always appreciate feedback from our guests but when we first read this review we were surprised for several reasons. Firstly, this guest mentions staying at the Federal House in March 2013 but the inn was closed the entire month of March for redecorating. Secondly, we have no rooms priced at $165 [plus taxes] as our least expensive room during this period is $150 [which is comparable or less than many other Berkshire inns during low season.] We are sorry the guest did not like the bathroom toiletries which we upgraded a few years ago to the family owned Greenwich Bay Co. whose organic products are crafted in Raleigh, NC. [Our rosemary, cedar and thyme glycerin soap is so popular we have guests who have asked where they can purchase it themselves.] The breakfasts at the inn are very popular as can be read in numerous reviews. In fact, it is common for guests to tell us they most often skip lunch because the three course breakfast is so filling.

Couldn't be happier
This is our fourth consecutive year I've stayed at the Federal House. This time it was our anniversary so my husband and I picked the Rose Room which was very romantic, intimate and extremely comfortable. Breakfasts..is worth the price of admission alone. Each breakfast is different and all incredibly delicious. The innkeepers, Kolleen and Brian were so warm and helpful. Although we've been there three previous times, they always seem to come up with new places to explore. South Lee is a great location since it's in between North and South Berkshire Counties; going to Tanglewood or Great Barrington is only 20 minutes away. Can't wait for next summer.

My wife and I just got back from a terrific weekend at the Federal House Inn. Innkeepers Phil and Barbara couldn’t have been more gracious, friendly or helpful. They go to great lengths to make sure everyone is comfortable and has a wonderful time. The room was clean and well appointed. An antique home with wide board floors and tasteful decorations it does not strive for Martha Stuart like "perfection." Yet it was everything I would hope for in a countryside B&B. It was simple and elegant. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful, and evening hors d’oeuvres and cocktails were enjoyable. I believe they offer a great value and a wonderful experience and hope we have an opportunity to stay here again next year!
