The Old Mill is a historic building located in the town of Hatfield, just a few miles from downtown Northampton. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In January 2021, new owners undertook a complete renovation of the building, opting for a chic, “urban industrial” feel. The new design provides guests with an upscale, modern experience while remaining true to the industrial heritage of the Inn and surrounding area. The Mill River still runs through the building, while many rooms feature breathtaking views of the waterfall.

I saw the excellent reviews of this inn 2 years ago when I was planning a trip(which fell through), and ever since then I have wanted to stay there. Finally, this year, the stars aligned and we decided to travel here. I went to their website and saw that the highly recommended Williamsburg Suite was available and I immediately booked it. We were in the area visiting relatives and wanted an extra bed for my sister-in-law to stay with us. When we checked in, the innkeeper helped us to make the couch bed for my sister-in-law, and I also bought some local beers from their cafe to put in the fridge. I was able to whip up a family-sized soup in the well-appointed kitchen for all 5 of us. We were lulled to sleep by the falls! For breakfast we made some oatmeal, tea and coffee. The suite was perfect for spending time with the family. My sister-in-law proclaimed that her experience exceeded all expectations and I have to agree. And staying here during fall foliage season made this a memorable classic New England experience!

This is a beautiful old mill with an interesting history in a gorgeous setting next to a waterfall -- quite a difference from the usual chain hotel! We went in late November; it must be spectacular in the spring, summer and fall when you can sit in the chairs by the waterfall. We chose this inn because accommodations in Amherst, where we were visiting family, were so expensive at this time of year. The drive from Amherst by Route 116 is beautiful. I recommend going this way from Amherst instead of by route 9 through Northampton and I-91; it is much more pleasant and due to the traffic on Route 9 takes the same amount of time. The main street in Hatfield is gorgeous: a combination of spectacular old houses and farms. The inn is beautifully renovated and clean, and everyone is very nice. After a long day, we appreciated Deb's offer of quiche and salad by the fire! Breakfast is made to order, and my husband said the coffee was delicious. The cafe is a separate entity, so be aware that the cost of breakfast is not included in the room price. We had coffee, hot chocolate, a shared yoghourt with fruit and granola and two breakfast sandwiches with homemade biscuits, and as I remember the cost was in the 30s.

We stayed for two nights in the inn’s Carriage House, about 100 yards from the inn’s front door. The fully equipped and comfortable Carriage House has a bedroom with queen bed and tv, a sitting room with tv, a kitchen and a bathroom. It’s perfect for two people. We were able to prepare meals easily in the kitchen. It had everything we needed including: microwave, stove, oven, refrigerator with freezer, and a Kuerig… no dishwasher, but that’s my job. It appears that The Cottage was recently refurbished. Everything was fresh and new and in perfect working order.
The Cottage does not have a view of the front of the falls, but you can hear the water tumbling down with the door opened. Other than the falls, the inn is wonderfully quiet.
There’s good WiFi and a good selection of tv stations, but more important - the lighting is very conducive for reading. Bathroom and kitchen lighting are also outstanding!
We were greeted warmly by Gail, the innkeeper, who is rightfully pleased with her property. She’s “always wanted to be an innkeeper.” She showed us everything we needed to know about our unit and made good suggestions for daytime activities. This is a beautiful area in the fall.

We spent a long weekend at the Old Mill Inn and stayed in the Hatfield Suite. The suite was completely updated while still holding onto the industrial look or an old mill. The furniture and bed was very comfortable and all bedding and towels were of high quality. The kitchen had everything you needed to cook any meal and the appliances are all top of the line.

Now for the best part - the staff were some of the nicest people we have ever met! They were very friendly and extremely helpful with any questions we had. The Inn is perfectly located close to (but not too close!) the highway to get us to our many destinations.

Would love to see the foliage and falls in the Fall. We will definitely be back!

This is our new favorite place around the Northampton area after 30+ years of exploring the area. So much to see in the area. We like the room above the waterfalls even though the falls are very loud. The King bed is very comfortable, the design of the room quite nice and having a refrigerator is a plus. Many amenities in the bathroom and there are very good towels. The staff are so very friendly, helpful and fun to talk with. Breakfast in the cafe is perfect - can't stay away from the huge, delicious biscuits. Thank you Gail, Deb, Marsha & Shannon.

We stayed here with several friends over our wedding weekend and could not have had a better time. The Old Mill Inn’s renovations make it incredibly modern and sleek without sacrificing any charm at all. Our rooms were incredible and we especially loved staying in the Riverwalk Suite, which was incredibly spacious, equipped with a reasonable kitchen, and boasted amazing views of the waterfall. Additionally, there is ample outdoor space around the property to enjoy; it is a truly beautiful setting. The breakfast food available in the café is surprisingly good (not to mention the amazing coffee) and I found myself looking forward to eating there each morning rather than feeling as though I compromised by eating a hotel breakfast out of convenience. Above all else, the staff were just lovely – Marsha (sp?), Gail, and Shannon were all as friendly as could be, helpful and informative, and truly great hostesses. We would definitely stay here again and hope to do so for future wedding anniversaries – what a special place to begin our life together at.

We had a family gathering with ten adults staying at the Inn for three days. We couldn't possibly have found a better place! The site is gorgeous, just a few miles from Northampton, especially during the fall foliage season.. There is a lovely breakfast area, plenty of good coffee refills, and room to linger. The staff is friendly and helpful. One of our group left her passport behind in the room, and we got a prompt call from the Inn when it was discovered - averting a near disaster I consider the Inn a unique gem in this area and will recommend it highly to visitors in the future.

We have just returned home from a two night stay at The Old Mill Inn. We enjoyed every aspect of our stay. The building and the setting are incredibly inviting, the sound of the water is lovely and the rooms are perfectly appointed. The space makes you want to book but it’s the staff that makes you want to return. Dee welcomes you warmly and seems to really care that you have a nice stay and then Marcia’s warmth, kindness and delicious baking lure you into the cozy cafe and you feel like you could stay and visit all day long. Kevin’s breakfast sandwiches are also a 5 star aspect of this Inn. We can’t wait to go back!

In this refurbished mill, no detail has been to small to be overlooked by these creative owners. We absolutely loved our queen sized room. It was just beautiful, but not at all in a traditional “b and b” way. It was so unique…the decor was chic industrial and each and every piece of furniture, hook, lamp, chair, painting, etc, was part of the reason the room was so wonderful. Comfortable, calm, interesting, and different from every place we have stayed! The beautiful bathroom had everything we needed. There were lots of lamps, plus natural light. There was a wireless charger or two for phones, too. As it was Easter Sunday when we checked out, the cafe staff had the day off, but there was coffee and a large selection of pastries for us to enjoy in the cute cafe. We will definitely return. A bonus is that it is very close to Northampton.

My recent stay at The Old Mill Inn was an absolute tonic. It has been completely renovated by new owners, who are now putting finishing touches on the café and landscaping. The decor is lovely and evokes the mill’s industrial history while providing all the modern amenities — wifi, air conditioning, Keurig coffee maker, HD tv with HBO, upscale toiletries and even a magnifying mirror. Water pressure was great, and everything was immaculate. The mattress was comfortable and I slept like a log, lulled by the nearby falls.

The location is terrific. In the morning it was a quick ten minute drive to the center of Northampton, with its many eateries and shops. (Amherst and Deerfield are also nearby.)

I stayed in the Amherst room, one of several ensuite bedrooms. (I understand there are also a few suites with kitchens.) I highly recommend the Old Mill Inn.
